There's never a server move/upgrade that goes without glitches, and Phono-L seemed to suffer from one this week. I noticed some wonkiness in the email server earlier this week, but just today had a chance to sit down and diagnose it. I think I've got it all sorted out now, so we should be good to go! Re: [Phono-L] Hello from Mike Dawicki
Since I was one of the recipients of your message, and also that I have cars, I thought I'd share some impressions with you. You need to tell what the phono collection consists of. This isn't the best time in history to sell off any kind of collection, but if it's what you want to do, go ahead with it. It's also not a good time for someone to sell collector cars, so it keeps both parties on a level playing field. I don't know your location, but there is a guy in Oakland county, Michigan, who had a '54 Cadillac for sale a while back, and may still have it. My phone is (248) 627-4141, if you'd like to call, evenings. here is a friend of mines comment on a new move by ebay any one else care to comment This is simply the text (below, in blue) of a quick message I sent to eBay on their Contact Us website option. Earlier today I spent a half-hour on-line with an eBay helper person, trying to get an answer to my question. It took Vickie almost 30 minutes to verify that the problem could not be resolved. Now I am sharing this info with friends who use eBay. I was disappointed to learn that a useful feature has been eliminated. When watching or bidding on items, there were formerly several buttons from which to choose, including delete from list or compare or add a note. I used the comment button to add my thoughts, like whether I was sniping the item; my maximum potential bid; real name and past satisfsaction of/with the seller; suggested value of a specific record in guide books; recent sale prices of a similar item; whether I already own 1 or more examples; person or friend who has been seeking this item; errors or omissions in the seller's description; etc. Just another unfortunate move by eBay. I am not surprised that their revenue and user satisfasction are both declining. **Great Deals on Dell Laptops. Starting at $499. The reproducer on this one seems wrong. It has a nickel plated cover where the rest of the phonograph is painted. Would like to see an original. Also, what would be the best way to clean the paint from smoke and dirt? I would start with Kotton Cleanser -but do not use paper towels, rags or steel wool-use cotton balls. put some on a cotton ball and use a circular motion. do not try to clean every bit on the first pass. Do the entire item then wipe down with mineral spirts.Let dry and repeat. If this does not clean it up in the manner you are looking for let me know. [Phono-L] Hello ..I'm a Newbie to the list ....
Hi all, I'm a newbie to this list ... and a novice collector of vintage phonographs... Actually my interest in oldtime phonographs started in 1974 My interest currently is primarily Edison cylinder machines ... and I have a few that are working, and a couple that need restoration. My goal in restoration is to clean up, and rebuild so the machine runs plays properly. First couple questions I have: any reccomendations on cleaning bedplates ... trying to remove old dust oils, but not harm any existing gold trim etc. 2nd... cleaning old parts, gears etc...is a parts washer neccessary ... what cleaning agents are reccomended? Thanks for having me aboard, Clint

Hi Clint, Meguiar's Clear Coat Body Scrub is good for bedplates and gentle with the gold trim. Mineral spirits is good for cleaning old grease off of the gears and the springs. What Edison's do you have? http://www.timegoes.com/scc.htm Steve - Original Message - From: cspaar at prexar.com To: Phono-l at oldcrank.com Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 9:08 PM Subject: [Phono-L] Hello ..I'm a Newbie to the list Hi all, I'm a newbie to this list ... and a novice collector of vintage phonographs...
