[Phono-L] Need your help
My quest for the missing parts for my AB MacDonald is coming along slowly, I have located a reproducer, and have a slip on concert mandrel on order, but the last item I need is the key shaped wingnut that allows the mandrel to be repositioned. Dwayne Wyatt said the thought he could make one for me if he had a dimensionally correct drawing of an original. If one of you with an AB would be willing to do a tracing of your wingnut and either send, fax or e-mail it to me, I would really appreciate it. Also I am looking for an old O reproducer, I don't care what shape the body is in as long as the turnover stylus bar works and is complete. If anyone has one they are willing to sell please contact me at bigal1...@aol.com. Thanks for your time. Alan Christensen Check out AOL.com today. Breaking news, video search, pictures, email and IM. hi allen did you check with ron sitko or dennis valente for parts they are both good too zono

I spoke with Ron Sitko at Union and all he had was a repro winding key. I sent an e-mail to Dennis at Apsco but he never replied. I have contacted several other repair and parts people and it seems the AB has several unique parts and not that many were produced so some of the items are difficult to find. I have not contacted anyone else about the O reproducer. As someone else mentioned. George Vollema (Great Lakes Antique Phonograph), is very helpful, and friendly too. He went to great lengths to get me a small part for a C19 record cabinet. He even sent me a picture of the part, to make sure we were talking about the same piece. Randy Minor

I must admit I have had bad luck with APSCO too. Some of their repro parts are substandard, some are fine, but the most troublesome thing I have dealt with is the service. I once sent some screws from an Edison Standard to them which were stripped, and I wanted some better ones. I had talked to them on the phone beforehand, they had requested I send in the screws, then I waited for about two months while nothing happened. I called and got no response, and finally I got the screws back in a letter from Patty asking if I wanted screws as chewed up as these, or what did I want. I was furious that I had to wait so long for nothing, and then to receive such a ridiculous letter when I had spoken with them and had submitted the sample screws as requested...well, the result is I do not deal with them nor will I recommend them to anyone. If anyone asks me about using them I generally advise against it. Wyatt's on the other hand treats me with respect and their parts and excellent. To each his own, I guess!! When I complained about the screws I was told it would take another month or so to get the ones I wanted. It may not be the best trait about me, but I am the type that if you burn me once, I am through with you and your name is mud. They probably need a good break. They were hit hard by flooding in July, and lost plant inventory from their other business. I guess Dennis is some kind of supervisor for the town as well because he was out straight dealing with road and bridge damage from what I gather.
