[Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Boxes...
I licked into an Edison Dealer shelf file box, the type that Edison Dealers filed Gold Moulded Records in on their stock shelves. You've probably seen pics of the file systems they had behind the counters. These boxes sat on the shelves and each contained four of the same title record. Now all I have to do is find four mint copies of the same title to display in it! Check the third pic, you can still see the outline of four boxes. http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa39/john9ten/Edison%20Box/ John Robles ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org
Re: [Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Boxes...
Actually John they were for both 2 minute and Amberols. I have a number of them and they have printed labels on the front with the numbers of Amberols. There should be a small brass frame on the front and the dealer would slip in a pre-numbered card with the cylinder numbers on it. The boxes were made by V. H. Rapke of New York City. In September of 1915 he decided to discontinue the labels and the Edison company wrote to its dealers asking if they wanted the company to take over making them (for Blue Amberols). - Original Message - From: john robles john9...@pacbell.net To: phono-l@oldcrank.org Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 2:23 PM Subject: [Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Boxes... If it is cardboard, continued licking could cause damage. The box I have (and the rest that the seller had) don't have the brass frames or labels..I would assume these are later then? That I don't knowI haven't seen enough of them or enough literature to compare types. If memory serves, they were advertised in the early issues of the EPM. Have a look. - Original Message - From: john robles john9...@pacbell.net To: Antique Phonograph List phono-l@oldcrank.org Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 8:27 PM Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Boxes... Re: [Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Boxes...
I did see what looks like these boxes in the EPM, and it havd what looked like a sticker on the end, without a brass frame. --- On Sun, 7/10/11, George Glastris glast...@comcast.net wrote: From: George Glastris glast...@comcast.net Subject: Re: [Phono-L] Speaking of Edison Boxes...
