[pinhole-discussion] Zero 2000 camera coming to Canada!

2001-04-01 Thread Guy Glorieux
Hi Canadian friends!

I was just checking the Toronto based Eight Elm Photo's web site for
something and what do I see jumping right in front of me?

You've guessed right! It's Zernike's Zero 2000 pinhole camera, right on
top of the page. Will be available in May!
http://www.eightelmphoto.com/

Hmmm...
I wonder who told Mike Chan about the Zero 2000 camera? -:))
The great brotherhood of the list, I suppose....-:))

Zernike! Congratulations! It's great to see you advertised so quickly
on my friend's web site. A fine cameramaker with a fine photo supplier
working together. This should produce wonders!

Re: [pinhole-discussion] Pinhole and lith printing - A natural complement?

2001-04-01 Thread Tina Martin
Which lith printing paper kit were you using, Guy? I have lith developer and
have used it with some non lith papers (infectious development method)but
hadn't found lith paper in Toronto. Was thinking of ordering some from the
USA. BTW have you seen the book The Master Photographer's Lith Printing
Course by Tim Rudman? Very helpful and inspiring.

Tina

Hi everybody!

Really this has been busy times for me lately. But, it seems I just
can't stop... I received last week my first Lith Printing kit and I
just had to try it on some of my favorite negatives. What a discovery!
To me Lith Printing is a natural complement to pinhole.

I've loaded a picture at

Comments welcome!

Anybody else does lith printing on this list? I'd be happy to hear and
share experiences.

Cheers,

Guy

P.S. Lith Printing is a special BW printing process using specific
types of paper and a specific type of paper developer. The paper is
massively overexposed under the enlarger and processed in highly diluted
developer for very a long period of times (from 8 to 30 minutes, with
constant agitation...). The print turns in shades of colors and yields
very different contrasts ranges in the highlights and the shadows.
Something like split toning, but different, all taking place at the
developer stage.

Subject: [pinhole-discussion] Help me Keep on Pinholin'!!!

 Hello All,

It's been quite a while since I posted anything. What I'm asking for is
those who do pray, to say a prayer for me. I'm still going through
cancer and I am going for surgery on April 2nd and April 3rd. It will be
surgeries 7 8 for me since June of last year. I figure if I get a
global prayer going it just might get the Big Guy upstairs attention to
put an end to all the crap I've been going through the last few months.
I will be doing some pinhole while in the hospital if I have enough
strength. I will share the whole story with everyone later on this
Spring. That is after I get some editing help from the select few who
have been helping me already with this; and they all know who they are.
And I want to thank them now for all their help. This is the BEST group
on the whole Internet; and I really mean it too!

 Keep on Pinholin',
 Tom

Hi Tom,

Any good fortune that the man upstairs were to send my way now and in
the next several months has been redirected to your account. It's
amazing how effectively communication with the Big Guy works these
days. Looking forward to your future contributions to the list and
especially to your future excellent health.

Sorry, John. That should have read:

'That can feel invasive, so I'd also be sure your
model understands how pinhole cameras work and why
you're getting so close. Also, I found that I could
take a pinhole picture with one camera and continue to
shoot with a conventional camera, which is more
efficient than just using the pinhole (and cheaper, as
models usually are expensive).'

Re: [pinhole-discussion] My first mailing

2001-04-01 Thread Colin Talcroft
Hi John

I have done quite a bit of nude work both with pinhole
cameras and ordinary cameras. I have had success with
the pinhole cameras lighting the model with two pretty
standard studio bulbs, one 300W and another 500W I
cover them with a sheet of paper as a diffuser (be
sure to use the proper holders for this. the bulbs get
very hot and will burn paper if not kept about 8
inches away from the bulb. I have used ASA 100 and ASA
400 T-Max and even hand-held with ASA 1600 Fuji films.
I found it quite practical. You do need a patient
model, however. I was using exposures of about 3
minutes to 15 minutes. An experienced model can do 15
minutes without much discomfort and the slight
movement that is inevitable is interesting. All in
all, with good lighting, it is not as difficult as it
might seem. You do need to get the camera very close
to the model. That can feel invasive, so I'd also be
sure your model understands how pinhole cameras work
and my you're getting so close. Also, I found that I
could take a pinhole picture with one camera and
continue to sheet with a conventional camera, which is
more efficient than just using the pinhole (and
cheaper, as models usually are expensive).

There are are at least three nude pinhole photos on my
pinhole site, if you care to have a look.

Good luck,

Colin
