George,

I wondered about two George Smyths a while back when exploring some DRiP
investing information on the Motley Fool site, then I just saw that the two
are, in fact, the same. Now, back to investing research having taken a
break to check my pinhole related e-mail.

[pinhole-discussion] wondering

2002-12-09 Thread Jean Hanson
About the message two days ago; a member took a pinhole image,
sharpened it in Adobe or a digital method, and printed it out. I
wonder why we don't just take traditional lens photographs and smear
them a little and print them out to look like pinhole work. What is it
that we are doing? I love pinhole photography and am retired from
traditional photo studio work. So my sister asked me recently, why are
you and your friends intent on taking bad pictures? I have always felt
we had a kind of philosophy...we were trying to see the world, or time,
or light another way. And I am not down on digitalbut it is hard to
explain to non- participants that we really are doing something, and
something important. If we sharpen the images to look like better
conventional photos, is something being lost? The mystery? The
understanding of an almost occult medium? An atempt to see what light is
really doing as it hits and wraps around an object? What can I tell my
sister? Jean

I'm not sure what Yahoo has to do with it either(?).

As the unnamed person to whom you refer, I will respond.

I would have sent Joaquin an email, but there was no link to do so. I still
do
not know how to contact him through the website.

Oftentimes people here post URLs to sites that they have created and images
they are newly offering. The comments here are constructive and helpful.
When
giving opinions, some of us want to help the individual display their
offerings
in the best possible light, thus the comments about the site design. When I
feel that one could better show what they have to offer, I present my
opinion.
A person with the greatest images in the world with an unusable website will
disappoint, and be disappointed.

I offered to the site designer an opinion that a link that takes one to a
confusing JavaScript (not Java) prompt, as opposed to a page with the link's
description, would yield lost sales. The designer of the camera is not
being
well server by the designer of the site. Certainly, this is information
that
Joaquin would like to have, as it would be unfortunate to have such an
interesting design not be successful due to a failure by a Webmaster.

Joaquin did indeed contact me (thanks Joaquin), so I was able to get some
information from him. However, my feeling is that people find it helpful to
receive feedback on all aspects of their presentation. For those
photographers
out there who are working on their own websites, they can only be commended
for
their efforts, and thanked for sharing their vision. For those camera
designers who are depending upon someone else to present their wares to the
world, I have a much hasher view when I see that their webmaster's design is
more about their design, and less about the camera's design.

Cheers -

george

Apologies for another statement referring to URL's where the new Casado
Camera can be seen.
The Site has experienced some problems when the provider was off-line
for some time.

This is a mirror URL :http://www.johndesq.com/dpr/casado
  http://www.johndesq.com/dpr/hal
You will find all relevant information and Images in here.

As you all know Joaquin Casado's native language is spanish and he can
express himself very well in English I think. Above all he is a talented
Camera designer and needs no further introduction.

Therefore I do think it is not fair to say it mildly, complaining about
a Java prompt-box which caused confusion at an unnamed person in this
group.
This can happen, for some newbies only a URL can cause problems.

The website is starting to undergo some modifications to accomodate

Common George, give Joaquin a break. The 1000's words the pictures in

I said in my post that this was a PRE-ANNOUCEMENT. Joaquin sent me and

intended to ANNOUNCE the camera to the world, it says in the home page
 that
there will be a web site coming soon.

I'll stop short of saying I made a mistake with my posting of Joaquin

 some

I would think that he would want to know that whomever is putting together

 Site
designers too often indulge in grandiose designs meant to be cool that
 are
actually unusable. There is nothing more important than usability.

Before the final design is complete, it would be best for the site designer
 to
know of the negative feedback from potential customers. If the site
 remains as
is and goes live, he will lose many sales from people who have no idea how
 to
  use this confusing site.

  Just my opinion.
