This must be because totem starts gnome-settings-daemon. As of gnome-control-center/capplets-data 1:2.20.3-2, the settings daemon will not be spawned automatically through dbus, so this should be fine now. Could you confirm this fixes your issue? Bug#462942: gdm: strange behaviour ceased
Package: gdm Followup-For: Bug #462942 Hi, thanks for the followup. GDM suddenly stopped doing this for me too some time ago, although I'm not sure why. I updated the kernel a while ago, did some apt upgrades a few times since then, but no idea if there's any connection. I have some similar messages in /var/log/gdm, and i _don't_ have x11-xkb-utils installed, but the problem isn't there anymore. Mighty confusing. tag 454789 confirmed severity 454789 minor forwarded 454789 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/518347 thanks i don't think that the work offline setting is related to the fact that you cannot get epiphany-webkit to connect to the internet. however, this does expose the minor issue that work offline is always checked on start up and doesn't actually appear to do anything. ___ pkg-gnome-maintainers mailing list pkg-gnome-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org http://lists.alioth.debian.org/mailman/listinfo/pkg-gnome-maintainers

However, I was rather upset when installing it pulled in 30MB of gnome dependencies... I didn't look in the code, but I would be very surprised if the converter depended on gnome's printing libraries. The solution to that would be to package them separately. What do you think about that ? After all, the converter could be used on a X free server. It would then pull in even much more useless dependencies, such as the full X11 librairies. I understand your concern about the dependency tree, but I still wouldn't want these binaries to be split, it would be a bit overkill. However, libgnomeprint is being phased out upstream in favor of Gtk+ printing support. You're welcome to work on moving to Gtk+ for printing, but I suggest you work with upstream on this subject. Well, I guess I'll just selfishly recompile rsvg for my own needs (and rename it svg2png) - I'm afraid I have neither competences nor time to help in this particular case.
