Well, these messages go back to the mid-1990s. Looking at all the docs for the project I doubt that any of the .msg files have value. I'll futz with tnef and see what happens. Much appreciated, Rich

In the past, Outlook e-mail files could be extracted using a command-line utility called tnef. A quick Internet search suggests that Slackware has a package for it. The SlackBuilds.org repo has two packages with 'tnef' in their name: "perl-Convert-TNEF is a perl module to read TNEF files. This is required for amavisd-new package." Doesn't look like it does any conversions. So, ... " Libraries > ytnef (2.0) Yerase's TNEF Stream Reader allows you to decode application/ms-tnef e-mail attachments, which are usually entitled "winmail.dat" and are generally a file container format that is only readable by Microsoft Outlook. Some TNEF streams also include RTF-formatted data." So, I'll continue to ignore them. Thanks again, Rich
LO Writer not converting M$ Outlook .msg file
A web search found a page telling me that LO's Writer could import an Outlook .msg file and make it readable. I tried on one and after a while had to kill the LO process because all that was displayed was a bunch of junk characters. Has anyone here found a way to translate .msg files? TIA, Rich
