Rich the link above, despite the .ZIP extension points to a web page. on
that web page are download links.

the actual link appears to be

http://ph-public-data.com/file/download/Pre-RD_PDI_Appx-A-Chemistry-Data-DVR.zip

but I get an 500 internal server error here using wget. I was able to
download just fine via Firefox.

you can try wget --content-on-error when web admins are foolish.

Re: [PLUG] Fire the umn.edu IRB?

2021-04-22 Thread Russell Senior
I would note that there is a question mark at the end of the subject
line and not an exclamation mark. I think there is enough evidence for
me to conclude the IRB made a mistake in deciding there were no human
subjects to consider, even if there is some narrow rule that allowed
them to exempt the project. I don't know any of the mechanics of why
that mistake was made.

[PLUG] Brtfs on zoned devices - in 5.12 kernel

2021-04-22 Thread TomasK
A while back, an issue came up with WD selling zoned/SHD/shingled hard
drive without identifying them properly. This has resulted in quite few
people buying them without knowing that they are SHD and experiencing
Zfs disk array failures. It caused all sorts of problems with disk
arrays in general and also affected Btrfs and other file system
performance.

on Btrfs side (I am primarily linux user) zoned device operation has
been work in progress for a while - primarily because of NVMe now
exposes zoned namespaces in standard ways.

As a consequence as of 5.12 kernel Btrfs supports zoned devices.

There is an interesting - fairly technical article about this in lwn:
https://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/853308/c386b5aab35db7b6/

Interesting read in long, slow moving covid vaccination queues,
Tomas

The "title" used for this thread is definitely in line with cancel culture
tactics.

That said, the thread itself is not in line with the subject and the
attitudes of both kernel maintainers and UMN leadership has been very
solution oriented.

Which is nice to see in the wake of the recent RMS circle jerking. Read the
entire thread before passing judgement.

I tend to think that the subject of this thread is inappropriate,
definitely judgemental, threatening, mob like mentality.

So far, only one side has spoken. The other one has committed to
investigate and report back.

So, if we want to be fair, we should wait for facts. If we do not get
answers in couple of weeks, then may be appropriate to call for somebody
else's head...

Hope it makes sense,
Tomas
