OK, a little clarification. I have two 128GB USB drives and one 1TB USB drive. My earlier problems related to one of the 128GB drives, which was running slower than the second coming. (It took three days to copy 500GB of data from it to an EXT4 drive.) I suspect the real problem with this drive is either that it is USB1.1 or that the owner out to resell it.

If so you may want to test the drive and see if it truly is a 1 TB disk, or just a trick that may be causing trouble. Look into f3 for testing [1], note that the tests are data destructive. Run dmesg in a shell and see if you spot any scary looking messages. Of my 32GB of RAM 9GB was in use. I ended up rebooting. Grr. So far since the first of the year I've had to reboot four times because of stuff like this. This does not make me happy. :( Something is wrong, and my #1 suspect at the moment are my EXFAT USB drives. They frequently suddenly fail to accept read/write commands and hang for 20-30 seconds. Except that in today's problem there was only one mounted, and I unmounted and pulled it out, but the problem continued, so maybe my theory is crap.

Yeah, sounds like an out of control browser tab. On Fri, Jul 2, 2021, 19:56 Bill Barry wrote: > On Fri, Jul 2, 2021 at 9:07 PM John Jason Jordan wrote: > > > This is ridiculous. [PLUG] Refresh keyboard
This is ridiculous. The keyboard on my laptop is mostly not working. I click somewhere to enter text and the cursor appears where I clicked, but when I type something nothing appears. If I leave it sit, about fifteen minutes later the text slowly starts to appear, one letter at a time. This happens everywhere - in browsers, the command line, e-mail client. (I am typing this on my desktop computer.) If I try to enter text with Onboard I also get nothing. I found a suggestion to do Ctrl-Alt-F2, or just Alt-F2, but neither has any effect, although when I pressed the keys the cursor shimmered slightly. I'm assuming that if I reboot things will be back to normal, but I'm trying to save the half hour it would take to relaunch all my programs and open all the files to where I was. Rebooting is a PITA. Any suggestions?
