Anyone got Videobox runnnig sucessfully on 6.3 or later ?

I had to drop back to 6.3 as 6.5 was causing me no end of problems.
I've got my system stable again but videobox won't work.

i know it's not the player or my network connections as i can run it on
any of my machines using the VB-remote on any of my other machines. It's
only the Squeezebox that won't find a running instance of VBplayer on
the network so i have to conclude the plugin is at fault.

I'm not claiming that my way is the best - but it's best for me! ;)
That's why it strikes me as a shame that the meta-data isn't used when

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Moose 0.50

2006-12-12 Thread Dr Lovegrove

Ok, it's been over a month and lots of stuff's been done, so time for
a release I guess..

Available in the usual place:
http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove

Changes:

* All the library windows (cover chooser, tree, etc) are now merged
into a single tabbed dialog (underneath the hood they're now a little
more generic, so adding them to (say) the now playing window should be
much easier).

* The library no longer has a top-menu, so I've moved the log
functionality to the Misc tab of the Preferences dialog and added some
buttons.

* The tree library now supports favourites. The right-click menu
allows you to play/move and delete them. I've not yet added an 'add'
option, but shall do soon..

* There's a new 'slow scan' mode which fixes problems with certain
servers. If you find scanning is producing 'connection closed' type
errors, try turning off the 'fast scan' option in the preferences
before doing a scan. Slow scan only does one query at a time, rather
than fast scan, which does 1 huge query and lots of subqueries whilst
still processing the huge query.

* There's a new Tools-Export Library.. option which allows CSV and
HTML exports of all the library albums. The CSV export is compatible
with pronto CCF stuff such as SNL. The format is: cd, Artist Name,
Artist ID, Album Name, Album ID, Album Disc Number, Album Year. To
get thumbnails in the HTML export, copy the html file to your 'thumbs'
folder and view it from there.

* I've tweaked the font in the playlist control and added a limited
resize so long names can fit in small columns. Also fixed the column
size remembering code so it remembers the column sizes.

* 'Start Softsqueeze' has moved to the players menu

* Lots of other small fixes...

Enjoy,

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Unable to start AlienBBC stream from the web interface

2006-12-12 Thread ashimmin

I can browse to a BBC stream and play it successfully from SoftSqueeze
or from the SliMP3 player itself. However, if I try to start the stream
using the web interface by clicking the play icon the stream does not
play and I get this error in the server log:

Not sure why there should be a difference between these two ways of

Slimserver won't find the files as part of the scanning process because
.rm is not a recognised extension for scanning.

You could try using the file:// prefix in the tune in box so for a
file test.rm on window drive c folder music enter
(file://c:/music/test.rm) - I think.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Recording AlienBBC streams

2006-12-12 Thread nokia

Thanks for that, much appreciated. I tried it on my laptop running
softsqueeze with great results unfortunately it fails to work on my
slimserver which is a dedicated headless box with no sound card since
none is required for my squeezeboxes and no audio is actually produced
on the server.

Audacity has no items listed in the select input box (not surprising
since there is no sound card installed). As I am actually wanting to
capture the data stream sent to the squeeze box I would have thought a
sound card was not required.

Have I missed something here or do I need to install something else?

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion about using the Tune in URL box. When I do
this the left-hand pane of the standard Web interface reports Tuned
into station: file:// but the file does not appear in the current
playlist and there is no sound from the SB.

I also tried browsing the music folder from the SB itself. The test.rm

I wonder if I need to add an entry to custom-convert.conf in the Alien

The custom-convert.conf file is already set up for rm. The issues is
that it is a file and not a stream delivered by rtsp. I don't have any
rm file at the moment but my guess is that AlienBBC is assuming it is a
playlist file and not a audio file and it is looking for an URL in the
file.

IIRC in 6.2 it used to work as I was testing a bug in mplayer - lots of
changes in 6.5. has altered how files are played and this may be a side
effect.

Copy/pasting the urls works.
However I now get very jerky playback (staggering and slow, difficult
to describe, sound as a mixture of digital intermittent sound and
analog slow playback) on all of the Alien BBC stations.
I've updated to 6.5.1 and changed the file as you told me but the sound
is still unlistenable.
I've popped up the Task manager in Windows and it tops at 10% CPU load
so i do not think I'm overloading the server.

Other radios play fine through the slimserver.
Any idea on why this happens?

Thanks/Grazie

Hi
I was just going to apologise. I have a far from perfect wireless
network at home here and the squeezebox is linked to a wireless
repeater. Now, fastening and changing the orientation of the small
antenna of the repeater sorts the problem out. Also changing the
orientation of the directive antenna of the main router has helped.
I had never run into this problem before.

Probably the stream from Alien BBC coming out of the Slimserver is far
more demanding in kbps than anything else I have ever played on the
squeezebox? The theory of wireless LANs using repeaters say that
transfer speed is reduced if the signal is not too good. That could be
the explanation.

Hey, I've found a way to check how good is my network near the
squeezeboxmy PALM LIFEDRIVE WiFi indicator when connected in there
tops the scale at 100% so I was convinced it was all right.
It was not.

Thank you, I appreciate very much your help.
But now, back to the first question, I still cannot find a way to have,
say RTSI1, or RAI1 to show up in the AlienBBC menu on the Squeezebox.
That would be my goal, cause with that I could say bye-bye to may FM
radio-

They can play if I do a copy/paste in the server, I can also save as a
favorite, but no way to rename it properly.

The instructions on the AlienBBC FAQ are not that clear, at least to
me. Can you still help me?

Ciao/Grazie

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: need help in getting new stations with AlienBBC plugin

2006-12-12 Thread bpa

The stream from AlienBBC is by default Flac which is far too good for
the 40kbps Real stream from the BBC but it is faithful. Unchecking
RTSP_WAV and RTSP-FLAC in Filetypes and leaving RTSP_MP£ (assuming
lame is installed) will send an MP3 stream which is less demanding.

You can test throughput of SB connection using the Network test Plugins
from the SB menu.

I'll check out the RAI stations over the next day in case they have
modified their web page and so broken the URLs.

In the meantime you can use the URLs on this page under the column
Listen Live as long as you have 6.5.1 installed.

Look up the MyPicks plugins for a easy way of organising your own list
of web stations. You can import from favorites to help build your own
list.

Tuning in to

works just fine

Stick with the MyPicks plugin - one of its its aims was to update the
AlienBBC equivalent.

Files saved from MyPicks are saved in the Playlist folder - if you
haven't set a valid oplaylist folder (under Server Setting/Basic
Setting/Playlist Folder) the files will not be saved.

The other thing to do is to to start slimserver with plugin debugging

Thanks for following up on this. I've tried it with the same
permissions (0644) as well as adding execute permissions (0755). I've
enabled debugging on plugins, and so far nothing of interest in the log
(it does go in the main slim log, right?).

This may be a dumb question, but do I need to edit the plugin at all?
At first I thought maybe I needed to type the location of the shutdown
script, but then it registered with me that it had a web interface for
this (if I understand it correctly).
