In this case it is definitely not traffic shaping. AA do zero traffic
shaping on their network, it is one of their key selling points.

I am on AA and I don't have any iPlayer buffering problems. Do you
have the same buffering problems with using iPlayer via the iPlayer

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-10-07 Thread danco

I finally got SvrPowerControl working on my Mac. It was difficult
because of odd permissions issues with SqueezeCenter, which I will ask
about elsewhere.

I see that one can really assign any scripts to the menu options.

Is it possible (and fairly easy!) to change menu item names? If I am
running a script on Shutdown Server I would really like the menu item
name to give an indication of the actual script.

Also, though this may be much harder, is it possible to add extra
scripts to the menu?

mostlysunny. That's for Day 3 on the bottom of the SBC. The icons for
days 1 2 are steady sun and clouds. The day 1 icons are both
parlycloudy, while the day icons are icon1: partlycloudy and icon2:
mostlysunny. For what it's worth, on both occasions I've noticed this it
was the 3rd day of the forecast that had the clouds-blinking-on-sun
 icon.

I see - so we have a combination of:
clear/mostlysunny: which (currently) should be a full sun toggling with
a sun with just a few (=two) clouds.
partlycloudy/mostlysunny: actually two icons as well, but I mapped them
to the same image (sun with two little clouds)

I guess the first combination is still consistent in saying that there
will be sun at least :) and the forecast is just not sure how much ...
Does this make more sense to you now or should we try reduce the
toggling? I could always take the 'icon1' as the main icon and only if
its a 'chanceof*'-icon start toggling with the other icon.

 3. So far I've been looking at your applet with the SB Radio and the SB
Controller, i.e., the small screens. That probably contributes to my
the text is too small opinion! You say that the font isn't enlarged
much because the size is determined by the width, but what if the string
wasn't wide. For example, what if it were 10:43PM (or better yet, 10:43p
or simply 22:43 instead of something long like the 05 Oct, 2009 in your
images? In other words, if there is more width available will it use
 bigger fonts?

The font is adjusted to the available space.
I calculate the size of the font and based on the longest string that
could show I scale it up as much as possible.
So if there is more vertical space and the longest text is shorter,
then the font would be bigger automatically.
Currently I take the date-string as the longest string regardles of
whether its activated or not.

I'll play around a bit (as my wife is sometimes mumbling about the
font-size too ;) - which makes at least to votes to look into it again)
to see If there is some room for bigger fonts. On all devices the font
would be bigger if one takes a shorter date-string (or disables it and
my code would respect this)

I tried installing some of Erlands plugins, such as CustomBrowse, from his beta
test repository. The plugin was listed as available for installation, but upon
restart, Extension Downloader said another restart was necessary to apply
changes, which I had not made.

I think the issue is that there are likely to be discepancies between the
install.xml and version info in the repository xml file?

I'll go back to manually installing - ED doesn't work too well for beta testers.

No, music cannot be played since SBS is completely unresponsive.

Mysql uses up to circa 50% CPU. When I started no other intensive

I let the restore run all night and finally this morning quit mysql.exe

Hmm, having restarted the server and got the You must restart the server to

still listed as plugins available for installation, I assumed it wasn't going
to work and reinstalled them manually.

Then upon restart, I saw that SbS did then install a couple of the plugins that
I had selected for installation, but then got another You must restart the

However, I had by this point installed them manually, so ED shouldn't have
installed them again?

Does ED not install all of them in one go, or is it that there are dependencies
between some plugins that it can only install some and then a reboot is needed
for the others?

I can only suggestions and the AA website said it was trialling traffic
shaping in Jul/August 2009.

Buffering is network related and since PC is doing transcoding the AAC
will be transcoded into Flac so if the user is using Wifi then user
wireless network would be the next suspect.

However, on other occasions it hangs at 5% rebuffering and needs
fixing. The quickest fix is to put the SB into and out of standby, and
then return to the program. Buffering then proceeds normally.

Have you tried using Pause - wait a about 10 secs and then play ?

Packet aggregation could produce your symptoms if the ISP timer was too
long and ISP equipment was waiting to maximise packet payloads.

This could be aggrevated if you have security s/w in your PC which is

I only see the output you sent, and that says that the file's header was
corrupted, doesn't it? Maybe some other tar versions are less sensitive to
headers or similar. But that failure is responsible for the bad behaviour of
the install script. Ok, some lazy programming on my side helped a bit too :-).
But files which give that response will not install, even when my homework is

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2009-10-07 Thread dip

I have just switched from SC 7.3.4 to Squeezeboxserver 7.4.1 (on Ubuntu
9.04). I use CustemScan and CustomBrowse created menus for classical
music (including the custom tag GROUPING for the work name of
classical pieces). I further use the MultiLibrary plugin to create
separate libraries for classical and for non-classical music. All menus
for classical music created with CustomBrowse are restricted to the
classical library.

Since I have switched to 7.4.1 I have errors in the sever.log which
seem to be related to CustomScan and CustomBrowse. I enclose my
server.log file.

Further, when now browsing my classical music all artists and all
composers are listed three or even four times (see enclosed screenshot
for artists). This happens in all my CustomBrowse classical menus (I
have different menus for different browse structures) which contain
artist or composer within a browse level. I have made several times a
complete wipe and rescan of the library but this did not change
anything. I enclose a copy of my klassik-interpreten.cb.values.xml file
(with appended .txt since xml-files cannot be uploaded) which creates a
browsing structure like

Classical - artist - album - work - track

Finally, I have also a CustomBrowse menu structure like

Classical - album - work - track

This menu does not work anymore but behaves differently on the web
interface and on the real squeezebox. When I click in the web interface
on the album link, nothing happens. When I press RIGHT on the remote on
the album level, the squeezebox is showing the next level, which should
be a list of my classical albums. However not only my classical albums
are shown, but the list comprises in the first line one classical album
name, in the next line one non-classical album name, the next line is
empty, the next line is the next classical album name, the next line is
a non-classical album name, the next line is again empty, and so on.

I enclose a copy of my corresponding klassik-alben.cb.values.xml file.

It seems that each time when I select the album link an error message
is generated in server.log.

All menus worked well with SC 7.3.4 and previous versions.

Is there anything else you need for tracking this problems?

Thanks for your help.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-10-07 Thread gharris999

danco;468172 Wrote:
I finally got SvrPowerControl working on my Mac. It was difficult
because of odd permissions issues with SqueezeCenter, which I will ask
 about elsewhere.

I see that one can really assign any scripts to the menu options.

Is it possible (and fairly easy!) to change menu item names? If I am
running a script on Shutdown Server I would really like the menu item
name to give an indication of the actual script.

Also, though this may be much harder, is it possible to add extra
 scripts to the menu?

The first request is really easy. Look at SrvrPowerCtrl's strings.txt
file, find the appropriate string, and change it.

The second one would be a little more difficult, but you'll learn a
little perl syntax in the process: add an new custom action to the
array of actions assembled in sub initActionItems in Menu.pm. It might
look something like this:

Code:

push ( @{$g{aActions}},
{ action
= 'my_unique_action_id',
actionid
= 0x0004,
menuindex
= $menuindex++,
menutext
= My Action Name,
message
= My Action Message,
dispblock
= 0,
getcommandargcoderef= undef,
poweroffplayers =
$g{prefs}-bPowerOffPlayers,
gotosn
= 0,
checkblock
= 1,
cancelwait
= $g{prefs}-nRegretDelay,
cmdwait
= 5,
refreshwait
= -1,
stopsc
= 0,
setrtcwakeup= 0,
command
= sudo path_to_some_script.sh },
);

That new command will be hard coded into the plugin now and won't be
modifiable via the settings page. But that's ok. Adding a new command
AND the settings support is five times harder.

Remember, you'll need to restart SC/SBS to see any changes you make to
the strings or code.

I've often thought that if KDF really abandons his ground-breaking
ExecuteScript plugin, then it might make sense to redo SrvrPowerCtrl
with an xml interface so that these sorts of modifications would be easy
to accomplish and not require editing the actual plugin code.

to the same image (sun with two little clouds)

I guess the first combination is still consistent in saying that there
will be sun at least :) and the forecast is just not sure how much ...
Does this make more sense to you now or should we try reduce the
toggling? I could always take the 'icon1' as the main icon and only if
its a 'chanceof*'-icon start toggling with the other icon.
Thanks for the explanation. And I'm glad that you used the same icons
for partlycloudy/mostlysunny, because they seem pretty much synonomous
to me! My personal preference would be for less toggling, for the same
reason I am not fond of websites with a lot of unnecessary animation.
But that's just my preference. I suppose one could fine tune it somewhat
and continue the toggling for chance of rain/snow/etc but not for
'chance of partlycloudy'. How many different possibilities are there for
wunderground's predicted weather conditions?

I calculate the size of the font and based on the longest string that

So if there is more vertical space and the longest text is shorter,

Currently I take the date-string as the longest string regardles of
 whether its activated or not.

I'll play around a bit (as my wife is sometimes mumbling about the
font-size too ;) - which makes at least to votes to look into it again)
to see If there is some room for bigger fonts. On all devices the font
would be bigger if one takes a shorter date-string (or disables it and
 my code would respect this)
If you could change the code to respect the longest possible string
_of_the_data_field_that_is_selected_ that would help. So if someone
chooses time instead of date the font would be adjusted based on a
longest string of something like 10:59pm or 22:59, instead of a longest
string like 23 Oct, 2009.

Thanks for taking this feedback in the constructive manner in which it
is intended. And don't forget, your wife's vote counts extra! (Btw, I am
told that wives *never* mumble -- husband's just don't listen closely
enough. At least that's what I think my wife was saying the other
day...)

I understand very well why they aren't included, as soon as the plugins
are included with Squeezebox Server it also means that someone at
Logitech has to maintain them. Maintaining someone else code isn't that
easy, maintaining the current TrackStat code is almost a nightmare.
Unfortunately I have to live with this nightmare since I neither have
the time nor the inspiration to rewrite the code.

However, it would be a good idea if a small part of the functionality
was included in the core, such as support for changing ratings and
support for dynamic playlists. It's not about copying code, it's about
implementing similar functionality the correct way that's easier to
maintain.

As long as Logitech isn't ready to maintain the functionality everyone
is better of with the functionality as third party plugins.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster working on 7.4?

2009-10-07 Thread radish

Is anyone else having trouble with IR Blaster on 7.4? I'm running the
latest 7.4.1 nightly and I can't get anything to work. I've copied over
my conf file from 7.3 and tried pointing the plugin to it and hitting
reload but the dropdowns all just say disabled. I tried running the
learning wizard but that just says it can't create the file, without
telling me which file it's trying to create :)

Any tips welcome!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-10-07 Thread danco

Thanks. It is because Execute Script is no longer supported (though
currently still works, but I have some issues with it) that I have been
investigating SvrPowerControl. It would be good if over time you could
develop it further.

It's good to know that changing the menu names is easy, and that adding
an item is not too difficult.

It might be nice if you could add, under the Idle Times section, a No
Action item. Currently one has the choice of having idle players
noticed, with an arbitrary action if they aren't idle and one the
specified set of actions on Indle, or of having it turned off, so that
enither indle nor non-idle are noticed. I can easily see a situation
where one wants something to happen if a player is not idle (for
instance, to ensure that the machine does not sleep) but does not want
an action when the player is idle. In fact my computer has gone to sleep
unexpectedly a few times recently, and I think this is the idle action
kicking in, so I have had to turn this off.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Extension Downloader woes again

2009-10-07 Thread Phil Meyer
You shouldn't even see the TrackStat beta since there is a newer non
beta 2.9 version which should be shown instead.
After several restarts, it eventually seems to have installed the newer 2.9.1.
Not sure what repository it pulled it from, or why I needed to restart so many
times, but I seem to have it installed okay now through ED.

However, I still have the problem with Song Info WebUI page not working with
both DynamicPlaylist and SQL Playlist installed. The exercise of trying to
switch to ED for plugins that ED offers was to ensure I had the latest. It
doesn't give me a lot of confidence that the latest is installed, so perhaps
you could confirm that the versions I currently have are the latest available:

Dynamic Playlists = v2.8
SQL Playlist = v2.5

Have you tried them with SbS v7.5.0?

I just tried uninstalling CustomBrowse *Beta*, Custom Scan *Beta*, Multi
Library *Beta* and Playlist Generator *Beta*, and reinstalling using ED, but
after a restart they weren't installed. Further, SQL Playlist *Beta* was
uninstalled.

So, I selected all those plugins again and applied the change to install them,
and rebooted the server. SbS reported that Plugin updates are available.
Having opened Settings Plugins, it reported that I needed to restart to apply
changes (note Update plugins automatically is unticked). I could see that
those plugins had been installed except Custom Browse *Beta*, which had still
not been installed, and no installed plugins were indicated as having updates
available.

I tried to install Custom Browse *Beta* again, and it restarted, and now that
one seems to have been listed as Active, so I think I'm finally there with all
your beta plugin versions installed with ED.

Some other 3rd party plugins don't seem to be offered for SbS 7.5.0 - I guess
there's a maxVersion check on the repository, so I still need manual
installation for many plugins anyway. eg. MusicInfoSCR plugin isn't listed as
available in ED under SbS 7.5.0, but I installed the latest version manually
and it seems to work.

I've found it, it's a bug in Dynamic Playlist when you have configured
a playlist in SQL Playlist that takes a track as parameter. To be
specific the Dynamic Playlist mixer doesn't work correctly in the Song
Info page.

It should be fixed in Dynamic Playlist 2.8.1 which should be released

2009-10-07 Thread erland

It's a bug in Extension Downloader:
https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14657

It seems like for new plugin installations Extension Downloader always
picks the plugin from the manually configured repository. I've removed
the old *Beta* versions from the testing repository so if you uninstall
all my plugins and open up the Plugins tab after the restart you
shouldn't see any beta versions besides the MythTV and Mail plugins
which still are beta. The other plugins should be available under the
recommended or other lists and you should be able to install them,
this includes Dynamic Playlist 2.8.1 which should solve your Song Info
problem.
