Ralph As pippin explained, iPeng just use what the server feeds the Controller so in my experience it is more likely to be an issue with the server feed than with iPeng. I think there are a lot of issues in the server with genre browsing in the web UI (and on the SB3) and on the Controller and iPeng which are not sorted out (try searching the Bugzilla and you will find some bug reports from me and Jim Zolx and others). I think it has to do with the fact that there can be different genres for the songs on an album, which is attributed to an albumartist for the entire album. It is not obvious what should be the desired behaviour depending on the options set. If you have investigated the current behaviour, you might want to start a separate thread and state your results in detail (for the benefit of the developers and the developers) and state which behaviour you would like to see. I am sure someone will jump in and argue for an opposite position... Regarding your reported issue: Have you tried the plugin CustomBrowse? I seem to remember that CustomBrowse, which is supported on iPeng, in its standard browse by genre menu showed only albumartists when browsing by genre. And you can modify (in an interface which is admittedly not very user friendly) which contributor roles (albumartist, track artist, band, composer, etc.) to include when browsing by genre. -- vagskal 2 x SB3 (wired), Receiver (wireless), Boom (wireless), Controller, iPeng on iPod Touch, muso on remote computer running Win 7 | 7.4.3 on Win XP vagskal's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20778 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Following the code, I don't see why this is the case yet, but I have a hack that fixes it in the meantime. I'll dig deeper, but if you're impatient you'll want to find and edit the file Slim/Player/Squeezebox2.pm file in your installation. Look around line 591 for the following: Code: } elsif ($body || Slim::Music::Info::isList($url)) { main::INFOLOG $directlog-info(Direct stream is list, get body to explode); $client-directBody(undef); # we've got a playlist in all likelyhood, have the player send it to us $client-sendFrame('body', \(pack('N', $length))); and comment it out as follows: Code: # } elsif ($body || Slim::Music::Info::isList($url)) { # # main::INFOLOG $directlog-info(Direct stream is list, get body to explode); # # $client-directBody(undef); # # # we've got a playlist in all likelyhood, have the player send it to us # $client-sendFrame('body', \(pack('N', $length))); Restart the server and that may fix it. It worked for me, but why exactly is still a mystery. I'm not seeing why the code paths diverge for the two different players when they are supplied the exactly same stream URL. Ultimately the problem could be in the server code, I'm not sure. Specifically it's the Slim::Music::Info::isList($url) bit the is returning true for the Boom, but false for the Receivers. I purposely am using the abstracted OPML libraries so that I don't need to deal with the lower level player and UI specific code. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Problem with real stream - with AlienBBC
I see. That's confusing, though, as the info for Fast Start says: The mplayer -bandwidth option is normally used to enable streams to start playing as rapidly as posible. This works for most cases but has been known to prevent streams playing on some machines. Set to disabled if you have problems playing real streams on your computer. which sounds like disabling it would do exactly the same (by different means) as you mention above to deal with Lyric's very slow stream (still 16kbps), i.e., a stream problem not a PC problem? Although it sounds to me like it could be either or maybe a combination of both. I only had this problem with slow RTE streams - all other streams are fine - which suggests that its the stream in this case. On a slightly related topic: not sure if you're bothering to try to keep the RTE Playback streams up to date with the ever-changing URLs, but the JK Ensemble one should now be http://dynamic.rte.ie/quickaxs/209-lyrc-thejohnkellyensemble.smil instead of http://dynamic.rte.ie/quickaxs/209-lyr-jk.smil. -- briank briank's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54872 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Problem with real stream - with AlienBBC
this same problem with Cyril FM streams Do you mean Lyric ? I have studied this problem and found the reason to be TCP acknowledged window size and the mplayer's implementation of RealAudio's Turboplay. Understanding the problem is now just academic as mplayer implementation is not going to change and use of RealAudio is fading away. For live radio - use the WMA streams. RTE is a pain to deal with as they change URLs in a seemingly illogical fashion, with no pattern, the URLs are not uniform and their handcrafted smil files break RealAudio rules (Listen Back programs are described as video not audio streams) and need a special parser. It looks like RTE are moving away from RealAudio as 2FM is now using Flash Audio and RTE have indicated that Radio 1 will be moving to Flash soon. So it looks like soon RTE Listen Back will no longer be available to SB users. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=54872 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
