to me they are both good enough, may be the zip package gives more
portability in case of total reset.

The only risk I see in both is the storage. How many free ram there is
in Radio? How do I clean rests of test styles or styles I don't want
anymore?

Btw, using SSH is not very hard to learn (and one is not able to really

 Ralph

As pippin explained, iPeng just use what the server feeds the
Controller so in my experience it is more likely to be an issue with the
server feed than with iPeng. I think there are a lot of issues in the
server with genre browsing in the web UI (and on the SB3) and on the
Controller and iPeng which are not sorted out (try searching the
Bugzilla and you will find some bug reports from me and Jim Zolx and
others). I think it has to do with the fact that there can be different
genres for the songs on an album, which is attributed to an albumartist
for the entire album. It is not obvious what should be the desired
behaviour depending on the options set.

If you have investigated the current behaviour, you might want to start
a separate thread and state your results in detail (for the benefit of
the developers and the developers) and state which behaviour you would
like to see. I am sure someone will jump in and argue for an opposite
position...

Regarding your reported issue: Have you tried the plugin CustomBrowse?
I seem to remember that CustomBrowse, which is supported on iPeng, in
its standard browse by genre menu showed only albumartists when browsing
by genre. And you can modify (in an interface which is admittedly not
very user friendly) which contributor roles (albumartist, track artist,
band, composer, etc.) to include when browsing by genre.

As Vagskal explained, the new interface for Controller, Squeezeplay

You'd have to compare to the Controller.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Unable to Parse WMA-preferred using IPlayer

The message Unable to Parse appears when using IPlayer set to 'WMA

files it will stream for brief periods and then rebuffers even with the
buffering rate set to the maximum value (which I think is 32 seconds).

Fortunately for you, and unfortunately for me I decided to update my

forced to upgrade to SqueezeboxServer 7.4.2 It turns out that I'm now
seeing a somewhat similar problem as ibgregr with my Squeezebox Boom,
while both of my Squeezebox Receivers are working fine. Following the
code, I don't see why this is the case yet, but I have a hack that fixes
it in the meantime. I'll dig deeper, but if you're impatient you'll
want to find and edit the file Slim/Player/Squeezebox2.pm file in your
installation. Look around line 591 for the following:

Code:

   } elsif ($body || Slim::Music::Info::isList($url)) {

main::INFOLOG $directlog-info(Direct stream is list, get body to
explode);

   $client-directBody(undef);

   # we've got a playlist in all likelyhood, have the player send it to us
   $client-sendFrame('body', \(pack('N', $length)));

and comment it out as follows:

Code:

   # } elsif ($body || Slim::Music::Info::isList($url)) {
   #
   # main::INFOLOG $directlog-info(Direct stream is list, get body
to explode);
   #
   #   $client-directBody(undef);
   #
   # # we've got a playlist in all likelyhood, have the player send it
to us
   #   $client-sendFrame('body', \(pack('N', $length)));

Restart the server and that may fix it. It worked for me, but why
exactly is still a mystery. I'm not seeing why the code paths diverge
for the two different players when they are supplied the exactly same
stream URL. Ultimately the problem could be in the server code, I'm
not sure. Specifically it's the Slim::Music::Info::isList($url) bit
the is returning true for the Boom, but false for the Receivers. I
purposely am using the abstracted OPML libraries so that I don't need
to deal with the lower level player and UI specific code. If you're
comfortable giving the above a shot, let me know how it goes. If not
I'll try and work on this a bit more, but typing is pretty difficult
since my hand is still bandaged up at the moment.

 Robert

I managed to comment out the lines, and it works perfect with the
latest SBS 7.4.2. Will we have to do this every time there is a new
release of the server?
My wife is now happy that she can listen to E Street Radio from our

Thank you Robert. I hope your hand is better.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SQL Playlist plugin - random album on 2 criteria

2010-03-01 Thread PatLogan

Hi there,

I'd like to be able to create a dynamic playlist that would random
albums on two criteria :
1. artist
2. genre

On the artist criteria, I need to use the 'like' operator (ie. like
'Bach%')
and on the genre criteria, the 'in' operator (ie. in 'Piano',
'Harpsichord')

The result must be grouped by album and sorted by tracknumber inside
each album.

I tried to change the sql parameters for hours but it is difficult for
me... If someone could help, that would be AWESOME!

Cheers :)

Commenting out that big block of code was just a quick hack to
temporarily resolve the problem. I've traced the problem down further
to a single line that can be commented out, but the point is you
shouldn't have to do this. I still haven't found the root cause though.
I'd like to think this is something that can be fixed in my code, but
I'm not sure that's the case. It may be an upstream bug, but I can't
say for sure. If you upgraded you would have to do the same thing
again. I'll follow-up with the one line fix, once I can make sure that
indeed does it, but it's still a hack.

As for the hand, I had a 3 pin pulled out of my finger on Sunday. Good

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Problem with real stream - with AlienBBC

2010-03-01 Thread briank

I see. That's confusing, though, as the info for Fast Start says:

The mplayer -bandwidth option is normally used to enable streams to
start playing as rapidly as posible. This works for most cases but has
been known to prevent streams playing on some machines. Set to disabled
if you have problems playing real streams on your computer.

which sounds like disabling it would do exactly the same (by different
means) as you mention above to deal with Lyric's very slow stream (still
16kbps), i.e., a stream problem not a PC problem? Although it
sounds to me like it could be either or maybe a combination of both. I
only had this problem with slow RTE streams - all other streams are fine
- which suggests that its the stream in this case.

On a slightly related topic: not sure if you're bothering to try to
keep the RTE Playback streams up to date with the ever-changing URLs,
but the JK Ensemble one should now be
http://dynamic.rte.ie/quickaxs/209-lyrc-thejohnkellyensemble.smil
instead of http://dynamic.rte.ie/quickaxs/209-lyr-jk.smil.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Problem with real stream - with AlienBBC

this same problem with Cyril FM streams

Do you mean Lyric ?

I have studied this problem and found the reason to be TCP acknowledged
window size and the mplayer's implementation of RealAudio's Turboplay.

Understanding the problem is now just academic as mplayer
implementation is not going to change and use of RealAudio is fading
away. For live radio - use the WMA streams.

RTE is a pain to deal with as they change URLs in a seemingly illogical
fashion, with no pattern, the URLs are not uniform and their handcrafted
smil files break RealAudio rules (Listen Back programs are described
as video not audio streams) and need a special parser. It looks like
RTE are moving away from RealAudio as 2FM is now using Flash Audio and
RTE have indicated that Radio 1 will be moving to Flash soon. So it
looks like soon RTE Listen Back will no longer be available to SB users.

1. I think so, but I do not use SqueezePlay.

2. Well it could be a matter for debate. Set the options to show in the
artist list only albumartists and set the option to show when browsing
by genre only songs in the genre by that artist. If you have an album by
albumartist X with 10 Pop songs by that artist and song no. 11 by (only)
guest artist Y which is a Blues song, should artist X or Y show up when
browsing by genre Blues or should no artist show up, i.e. should the
album not show up at all under Blues?

Personally I would like to see only albumartists when browsing by
artist because that list would otherwise be too long. When browsing by
genre I would like to be able to see all (track)artists who has played a
song in the genre, because the (track)artist list will be manageable
when it is divided by genre.

That 'not idle' command really shouldn't fire off if no players are
playing and if the system is otherwise 'idle' (i.e. not scanning, not
updating firmware, etc.) So, I'm not completely sure what you're trying
to accomplish here and why you're seeing the behavior you're seeing.

To test if a specific player is off, you could try a CLI command
something along the lines of:

Code:

  scclitool.exe %player_mac% power ? | find power 1 if errorlevel 1 time /t

..replacing %player_mac% with the mac address of the player you're
interested in. Replace the power 0 with power 1 to test if a player

group by tracks.album
order by rand()
limit 1;

PlaylistOptionContentType:album results in that SQL Playlist want the
SQL to return album id's instead of track url's.

PlaylistOptionDontRepeatTracks:1 makes sure it only plays tracks on
the album that haven't already been played, I'm not completely sure you
need this, it might work without it.

PlaylistOptionUnlimited:1 makes sure it always add a complete album
and not just enough tracks of the album to fill the playlist to the
wanted size.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SQL Playlist plugin - random album on 2 criteria

2010-03-01 Thread PatLogan

Dear Erland,
Thank you very much!
That's perfect.
I'd like to enhance the user interface: is it possible to ask the user
to type the string to select the artist instead of selecting only one
instance in a list? I tried to costumise the parameter stuff but did not
succeed...
It would be nice also to be able to select several genre items.
That would be great, but anyhow, what you performed there definitly
suits me and I think it is really useful.
Cheers
Pat

You can only have list parameters if we talk about the parameters asked
when trying to play the playlist.

It is possible to make a template for it as the templates available for
the different built-in playlist types, this way you can reconfigure it
through the web interface to select genres or type a artiststring, but
I'm not sure if this is what you want ?

It's only possible in the template approach described above, the
parameters asked when try to play only allows a single value to be
selected.

It might be possible to accomplish it by having two genre parameters if
you just want to be able to select two genres.

Instead of changing manually the 'Bach%' criteria, I'd like to enable
the user to enter this data without parsing all the code.
Like you have the invitation to select an artist in a list but instead
of a list, it would be a simple input box where you can type whatever
you want including joker characters...
Cheers
