You could have a look at this thread

which allows streaming from a Spotify client running on a local PC
without using Squeezecenter. It allows streaming of free Spotify.

It may not be what you want but worth a read.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] A new AlienBBC 2.6b1 beta for testing.

2009-07-13 Thread Ramage

bpa;440100 Wrote:
A new version of AlienBBC is available for beta testing. This beta is
only available for 7.3.x and 7.4.

The main aim of the beta is to support SqueezeCenter 7.4noweb-sqllite.

An initial version of a new feature has been added to display station
logo and provide Now Next information on live WMA (e.g. using More
Radio menu) and RealAudio streams. This feature enables UK users to use
the higher speed BBC WMA URLs and get program information. please
provide feedback on this feature (e.g. not useful, make configurable,
 change layout)

The Now Next information is put into the Artist and Album
fields so on WebUI the Next info is displayed above the Now. On
Squeezeplay - the next info will scroll after the Now on the Now
 playing display.

There a few bug fixes to show program information again when playing
 Listen Again.

 INSTALLATION.
 1. Add this repository to Extension Downloader
 http://alienbbc.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml
 2. A new entry will appear offering AlienBBC upgrade to 2.6b1-7.3.
 Select and click Apply.
 3. Restart SC

After restart, if AlienBBC does not have a BBC Live Streams - WMA
menu then go to AlienBBC Plugins settings and click Reset menu.

It worked without any problems on SC 7.3.4 (latest nightly) on Ubuntu
9.04.

Tested on Boom, Duet and Classic and all scroll the text OK.

Useful enhancement.

Great stuff, thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: CDplayer plugin

2008-12-18 Thread Ramage

bpa;372578 Wrote:
The update to CDplayer for Squeezecenter 7.3 is ready and can be
installed using the Extension Downloader (ED) a new feature of 7.3
 which is accessed through Settings/Plugins/Extension
 Downloader/settings.

Install instructions for CDplayer plugin are below following some
 explanation about the ED.

 ABOUT EXTENSION DOWNLOADER
The Extension Downloader (ED) is an automated method for installing,
updating and removing plugins, applets, InfoBrowser Addons etc from
repositories. Currently the public repository is small but it will be
expanded to hold popular/recommended plugins etc.

Currently most Plugins are in private repositories and the user will
have add URLs to the Additional Repositories list. The CDplayer is
in my repository at URL. URLs for other repositories can be found here
 http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeCenter_Repositories

Feedback on the functionality, ease of use, shortcoming, problems etc
on ED is needed so that it can be improved for the next release.

 TO INSTALL CDPLAYER PLUGIN
 1. If you have a version of the CDplayer plugin already installed in SC
7.3 then it needs to be deleted and SC restarted SC.
 2. Open SC Setting/Plugins/Extension Downloader/Settings
 3. Add this URL http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/repo.xml to
 Additional Repositories and click Apply.
 4. A list of Plugins should be displayed. Check the box opposite the
 CDplayer plugin and click apply.
 5. If Installation is successful - restart SC.

The Extension Downloader does not install plugins into the
server/Plugins or the server/Slim/Plugin directory. It will install
plugin into a new directory called InstalledPlugin in Sc's cache
directory. The path to the SC cache directory can be found on the
Settings/Information web page near the bottom of the page.

Using ED is the preferred installation method but if the user really
wants to install manually from a zip file then the CDplayer plugin is
 available from the following location
 http://code.google.com/p/bpaplugins/downloads/list

Yeah, that worked OK using the extension loader on Ubuntu 8.04 SC7.3
latest

The latest version works OK, although some of the streams do not play -
I suspect that is a BBC issue and not a problem with the plugin.

Good work Triode, and thanks Mick for the logo - looks good.

I can't get the plugin to see the cdrom on ubuntu Hardy AMD64. The
cdrom loads onto the desktop and tracks can be played using juicer or
other app.

Any ideas on how to get the plugin to see the cdrom?

BTW the cdd2wav app in Hardy is contained in icedax, I assune this
will work OK with the plugin (if only I could get the cdrom recognised.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] PocketSqueeze: Preview release now available

2008-03-13 Thread Ramage

shawkie;279153 Wrote:
 Installing the PocketPC application:

Copy the CAB and INF files onto the PocketPC (doesn't really matter
where). You can then use Pocket Explorer to install it. I can't
remember if its the CAB or the INF file you need to select but it
should then ask for permission to install the package. It won't create
any shortcuts but it should have installed the application to \Program
Files\PocketSqueeze and you can use Pocket Explorer to run it.

Setting up the PocketPC registry settings:

PocketSqueeze uses some registry entries to tell it where to find the
database and how to contact the server. I used CeRegEditor to set these
up. You just make sure you have ActiveSync running and connected to your
PocketPC and then run CeRegEditor on your desktop and you can then
modify the PocketPC registry. The screenshot shows the keys that you
 need to create.

 Setting up the database:

The easiest way to start is to just use the complete sample database. I
normally put it in \CF Card\PocketSqueeze. Note that the server IP
address (192.168.1.5 in my case) is automatically appended to the path
specified in the registry when PocketSqueeze looks for the database.
Also note that you should use the server IP address and not hostname
because PocketPC doesn't seem to do WINS hostname lookup. Obviously
this database won't match your music collection but if you get it to
display lists of artists, albums, etc. then you're most of the way
there. You can then use the database tool to create your own database.
You will need to combine the result with the images directory of the
 sample database.

 Running the database tool:

I forgot to mention that you need the MySQL connector to run the
database tool. If it all works as it should then you should end up with
a pocketsqueeze.db and an artwork directory. You can download a browser
for SQLite to check that the information in the database looks okay.

 Final notes:

I'm not sure how it will behave if you are using the builtin Various
Artists feature. I have renamed it to something like KJHGFHGKFDHK in
my SlimServer configuration to effectively disable it.

Everything is controlled using the direction pad and center button at
the moment. I'm planning to add screen tapping soon.

I will be needing quite a lot of button images at some point so please
let me know if you can help.

Thanks Shawkie, I'll have a play with it over the next week or so.

And here is Gordon’s modifications which makes this plugin work with

Install the contents to /var/lib/squeezecenter/Plugins/PowerCtrl

Manually delete the /var/lib/squeezecenter/Cache/plugin-data.yaml
file.

As root, add the slimserver user to the /etc/shutdown.allow file:
touch /etc/shutdown
echo “slimserver” /etc/shutdown

edit the /etc/sudoers file:
Comment out the line with: Defaults requiretty

Add:

%squeezecenter ALL=NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown -h now
%squeezecenter ALL=NOPASSWD:/sbin/shutdown -r now

restart squeezecenter and voilà!

I've got this working OK on ClarkeConnect.

The Pandora update works OK.

I found the Cover Chooser sorting by column rather strange to start
with (even if logical).

An option of sorting by row or column as you suggest would be good.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SoftSqueeze Unresponsive on Vista

2007-09-02 Thread Ramage

Assuming you are running Sofsqueeze on the same PC as SS.

I have found that Vista sometimes has a problem with the address
localhost - don't know why, but it can be fixed by using the IP
address 127.0.0.1 instead. Maybe a translation issue!

That may be the reason your softsqueeze hangs - worth a try.

By the way, I am using Vista's own drivers for the sound card, because

I had a similar experience and the mixer was not visible. I did the

Conrol Panel Sound Manage Audio Devices Recording (only Mic
Line In showng) Right click in the window, select show disabled

Wave should work.

This worked on my Vista Laptop which uses Realtek Audio.

I had the same thing when using Vista, Wave Input was streaming

I have this working OK on 6.5.3, although I had a problem getting the
audio card to behave. I have used the Shoutcast server in the past and
I think some of its settings got in the way of this plugin.

Anyway after playing around with the audio tab in control panel it
worked OK. The levels were a bit high and I had to reduce the main
volume on the PC to about 50% to prevent distortion on the stream.

I also found that streaming with mp3 was very poor quality - haven't
looked at that problem yet, but maybe the default settings are for low
bitrate??

Apart from that it's a great enhancement, good work.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Server Shutdown via remote control possible?

2006-10-30 Thread Ramage

You could try the Execute Plugin - here
http://www.deane-freeman.com/slimserver/.

I use it to shut power down my Linux server from the SB3 remote.

I believe it can also be used on Win systems although I haven't tried
it.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Server Shutdown via remote control possible?

2006-10-30 Thread Ramage

Perhaps a little less scary would be to make use of sudo...

You could authorize the slimserver user to allow it to issue the
shutdown command, but no other root privileges.

 see -- man sudo

See this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25609

I use this command in a script: sudo halt -p.

and added an entry in sudoers:

slimserver ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

The possibilities are endless, I also use execute to restart slimserver
and mount disk drives.

I see from your report on bug 4313 that the bitrate for the failed
track is 48000bps - which SSq does not recognise. All my tracks are
coded at 44000bps - so your problem looks like bit rate rather than
tags.

Still - SS should be able to deal with the bitrate.

I don't use Winamp. You could try ripping using CDex - free download
from http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/

It is fully configurable for MP3 and other formats.

Might be worth trying a test rip to see if your problem goes away.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Softsqueeze MP3 Plugin Fails

2006-10-21 Thread Ramage

You can add a couple of new columns to MP3Tag which will tell you which
tags are in use and total tags on the file.

See this post: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpo...35postcount=9

You could try experimenting using Foobar2000 which lets you remove
unwanted tags. I discovered the solution (for me) using a Hex Editor
to remove the mp3 file header - and went from there.

Of course your problem sould be due to something else.

My problem was only on WinXP server, and the same files played OK from
Linux.

From the bug report you are running Suse Linux, so the problem may not
be the Tags but something quite different.

I use CDex (Lame) to encode MP3 files.

There has been no comment from any developers, apart from what is on the
bug report.

You say some of your MP3 tracks play OK, what is different about them
when compared with those that don't play, Is it bit rate -
VBR/ABR/CBR?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Softsqueeze MP3 Plugin Fails

2006-10-15 Thread Ramage

I have solved my problem with mp3 not playing on Softsqueeze.

I had tagged all my files using MP3tag v2.36a with ID3v1 and ID3v2.3
tags. When I removed the ID3v2.3 tags with foobar, I found the tracks
played.

I then reset all the tags to 1d3v1 and ID3v2.4 UTF8, and they worked.

The problem is with how the XP version of Slimserver 6.5.* handles the
beginning of the mp3 file. This is not an issue with Linux.

This of course is a palliative solution as SS needs to be able to
handle all types of tags.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Softsqueeze MP3 Plugin Fails

2006-10-15 Thread Ramage

Retagging was quite painless using MP3Tag - although it may take a while
depending on the number of files in your library. Just load all your
music files, select all.

In Tools, Options, Tags, Mpeg

tick ID3v1 and ID3v2
select the radio button for ID3v2.4
tick remove APE

Save all your files.

You might want to try it out on just a few files first though.

MP3Tag is a free download

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Alien 1.06 won't play WMA on linux

2006-10-07 Thread Ramage

WMA tracks will not play on Softsqueeze using Linux

This problem has been reported before -
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25117, and is due to a
problem on mplayer.sh.

There are 2 solutions, both given by bpa on thread 25117 post #7 if you
use Mplayer pre8, or by modifying mplayer.sh as attached (download and
delete .txt).

Could one or both solution be included in next Alien release?
