It is more than likely the accented e in that your accent is a different
character to that used by All Music.

When this happens you can either attempty to fix by changing the album
name OR what I tend to do is to create my own review.html which I drop
into the album folder. This can be a direct copy of the text on All
Music if you want or you could personalise it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2022-11-14 Thread staresy

Sometimes when playing a locally stored album there is no album review
displayed. This is most often due to All Music not having a review to
display or a mis-match in my local artist name or album title (amending
my locally stored meta data to match usually sorts it out).

However I have one stubborn example where I can't seem to retrieve the
All Music review. The Album is Olé Coltrane by John Coltrane.

My local meta data has the artist as John Coltrane and the album title
as Olé Coltrane (with the accented é), the same as All Music, but the
online review isn't retrieved.

I initially thought it was the accented é, as I just had a non-accented
character in my local title, but that didn't sort it.

Are there any other data fields that need matching, or is it the é that
is causing the problem?

Any ideas, just curious, it's a great album and an interesting review!

I was thinking about menu items for mood/style/theme to choose from. But
there might be a problem to associate the local/remote albums/tracks
with such tags if they're not already present. I haven't found any tool
for adding such tags to my existing files, nor any tags database that is
available for it.
(When I tried out Roon some years ago, it was dnloading a lot in the
background, allegedly database with info about artists etc.)

Hello!

Thank you for your great plugin!
Now we have Roon-like system :)

But...
Do you have any plans to extend sources of information?
Unfortunately Roon and ALLmusic is not ideal. ALL music doesn't mean all
unfortunately. I would even say that its not the best place to check
information about music - lack od data or data with errors...

Recently I noticed that Material shows no information about Zamilska.
Quick check: Roon no data, allmusic no data.
But: Spotify, Tidal, last.fm, discorgs, Shazam - all contain sth about
the artist.
https://www.last.fm/music/Zamilska
https://www.discogs.com/artist/3652872-Zamilska

Of course I can always google it but I'm disappointed that Roon doesn't
know Zamilska. It's not American artist, she is not mainstream for sure.
Bur she is quite well known musician :/
I had to complain a bit :)

Multi artist Compilations are a problem for most media systems wrt
artwork and artist info. I'm starting to think that they are not worth
preserving as an 'album' instead just store them as singles or tracks
from an album that is not completely owned. Then a playlist to hold them
together if needed...a whole discussion on its own

Album (or Single) cover art should be folder.jpg and placed in Album
folder
Unfortunately for Compilations you can only add one coverart image for
the entire album.
You can add additional album artwork eg rear.jpg, inner.jpg which will

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2022-02-20 Thread d6jg

Just to add some user experience

If you define an artwork & lyrics folder then MAI will attempt to
download and store as follows
Artist Art - will create an image file titled “artist name as LMS
wants”.png/jpg however if no image is found it will create a zero length
file with the suffix .missing. This enables a user to find an
appropriate image and name it correctly.
Lyrics - will download and store a .txt file of lyrics when you have MAI
open on the lyrics tab. You can correct errors manually or delete the
file and MAI will re lookup at next play with lyrics open.

Self generated bio’s and reviews.
Assuming you have an Artist/Album folder structure
Create and drop bio.html into the Artist folder and MAI will use this
instead of looking the bio up on AllMusic
Similarly create an album review as review.html and drop into Album
folder.
Any standard hyperlinks you create inside the html files will be obeyed
by Material which will generate its Follow link and Search functions.
Don’t attempt to style the html in any way beyond basic H1, bold etc

If you are using Linux you can expand the accuracy of lots of MAI
capability by using symlinks

For example
MAI will pretty much always find lyrics for a Beatles track but if you
are playing a cover version it most likely won’t. You can symlink the
lyrics in the Beatles folder to ANOther’s version.

code is the reference.

I did, was hoping for something more detailed thats all...

How does it handle
- various artist compilations? Artist is at the track level
- artwork for a single? Should this be a seperate 'album' in the
artist/album hierarchy?

Not sure why the "1" appears either.

@michael

A wee buggette

It appears that the MAI lookup to a stored library of lyrics is case
sensitive track to file name e.g an “of” in the file name instead of
“Of” causes a failure to find.
I know you usually translate everything to lowercase to avoid this sort
of thing.
Easily corrected manually though.

I know that the function is there but hope to get access to it in an
easier / faster way. I think that the booklets usually contain very nice
info and would be nice if they could be more on the forefront of the
music and artist information.

Material will open pdf files on my LInux desktop. I think its inability
to do so on Android is more an Android limitation than a Material issue,
but I don't know enough to be certain of that. And I have no knowledge
of iOS.

Loading Material in a browser on Android, you at least have the option
to download a pdf file and then open it independently. But with the
Material apk, all you get is silent failure.

I'll drop a link to this thread in the main Material thread.

Would it be possible to add a link to the information section (artist,
albumartist, year, genre, source) that is named files. Clicking the link
would show for example the pdf files in the directory? What I would like
to achieve is easy access in Material Skin to for example booklet files
that are stored in the music folder of an album.

I have MAI set up as follows
37102

The slight issue with having a cached copy stored in this way is that
MAI won't update following a correction - I'd have to delete manually to
allow MAI to re-create - unless there was a handy "delete cached copy"
link at the bottom of the lyrics page!?

The upside of this mode is of course I can amend by hand but further
that a can do some clever symlinking which I was doing at the time I
discovered the incorrect lyrics.

The track in question is by Roxy Music as you discovered when searching
but a lot of their stuff has subsequently been re-recorded or performed
live by Bryan Ferry in his solo capacity but if you are playing a Ferry
version ChartLyrics doesn't find the track so rather than symlinking
file to file I have done it on a folder to folder basis

/lyrics/Bryan Ferry is symlinked to
/lyrics/Roxy Music

This uses the same store point for lyrics whether its Roxy Music or
Bryan Ferry that you are listening to and allows a one place correction
for both. Obviously my use is a bit esoteric but I thought I'd post this
just in case someone else finds it useful.

I have 3 x LMS, 2 use the same NAS as their storage mounted identically
via NFS. The 3rd is at a remote site where there is a fully synced
backup NAS. The LMS there is also mounted with the same path so a change
at one location update all three instances of LMS accordingly. I have
yet to work out how to extend this to Advanced Genre Replacement as this
is (I think) a database thing rather than some simple cached file
containing the replacement table??

If I understand the MAI process correctly it obtains the lyrics as raw
data and writes to a file as text. If this is correct I think it would
be simpler / cleaner to append a line to the end of the text file if
Micahel is up for it. You could also append the "correction" link if it
was felt sensible although some users wouldn't realise that you would
need to delete the cache version to see the amend.

Code:

Lyrics sourced from https://Chartlyrics.com/fullurl;>ChartLyrics.com on dd/mm/yy.

I modified the earlier example in my stored file and can confirm that
the url gets displayed correctly in both Material and Default and
responds like any other url.

If you copy that URL and go to it then you are taken to an edit page on

It requires an email address to be entered (but not checked as far as I
could tell) and makes the update.

If you then use Michael's link again then you should see that the change
has been made.
I don't know if they have back-end processes that do some sanity
checking of the submitted process and/or they go to human reviewers.

Note - I think that MAI can get the lyrics from more than one source ...
so this would only work if the source is ChartLyrics.
However, you would not see the URL in the LMS logs ... so to get to it
you would have to search their site for the song and then make the
update.

If MAI added the update URL to the MoreInfo field then it could
potentially be easier to do.

Paul, can you explain that procedure more fully? As I'm quite happy to
correct at source although in LMS terms I'd need to clear the cache for
track in question and allow MAI to re-create (not a big issue though).
Is the correction immediate do you know?

I had realised that it was an HTML encoding that hadn't been removed at
source - I code HTML by hand for my sins - but wondered if there was any
regular expression translation already in MAI for display.
I can do a search and replace over the cache files fairly easily but
thanks for looking anyway.

Yeah, I played with Whitebear and J. River a few years back as well and
decided to re-visit recently hoping they made some progress...

I really like how foobar2000 shows as a player in LMS and the audio sync
between foobar on the pc and the duets/sonos is pretty good (much better
than J. River)

It works when I initiate playback through the LMS web interface or
Orange Squeeze/Squeeze Ctrl from phone/tablet. I wonder if there's a way
to make it work by initiating playback from foobar?

Because apparently there's a J. River-like skin for foobar2000 -

I used to use Whitebear (DLNA server) to do the same; it had a nice
feature that would tell LMS to directly play the tracks if they were on
the same system (bypassing the DLNA playback mechanism). So you could
use MC to initiate playback, Whitebear would take over and tell LMS to

Yeah, I have been using Material Skin. But Like I said, I really like
seeing album covers over internet artist images...

That's really too bad about J. River. I've been doing some reading, and
apparently it can now sync when using the same OS. Which means for me, I
would have to buy a couple of NUCs, and install Win10 and J. River and
connect them to my two AV receivers...

I did discover something cool while playing with J River that I am now
using with my LMS setup - With the DLNA plugin installed in LMS, and
Foobar2000 open on my Win PC, Foobar shows as a player in LMS, so the
audio being played on my PC can sync with the Duets/Sonos connected to
my receivers. It syncs up pretty good too. Anyone else doing this? I'm
just learning but really digging it. I just wish I could use the J River
interface, but Material skin works too...

I am looking for a way to make it look as much like J. River as
possible. I like to see the album covers opposed to some artist image
from the internet. For artists that I have more than one album from,
just use any of their album covers.

Feel free to copy/symlink one of the album art files as artist.jpg. But
no, this is not possible automatically.

See if the Material Skin works better for you.

JRiver is nice, but it will likely never do precise zone syncing. This
has been a long-requested, but it is a difficult problem, esp. when they
have no control over the hardware.

I would actually just switch to J. River, but I can't get the instance
running on my Windows machine to sync up with my Squeezebox Duets,
Sonos, or networked Yamaha receivers. Even though the zones are linked,
they are out of sync.

Attaching a pic of J. River's artist view. Anyway to make LMS look
similar?

Greetings - I was wondering if there is any way to display a random
album cover for an artist image if no match can be found on-line. Or
better yet, the option to switch between a random album cover by a
particular artist, rather than the image that was found on line?

I don't understand the latter, as I use the pictures to recognize what
I'm looking for. When that picture changes all the time, then this
becomes useless?

As for the static picture: if you define a folder for the artist picture
you can put in there whatever you want.

You updated half way only (Debian 9). You really should go all the way
to Buster at the very least (10). Better try all the way to Bullseye
(11). You really need recent SSL support, or many features will no
longer work.

Well, updated to Stretch and 8.2.1 and as I feared, it broke a bunch of
stuff, but LMS is up and running. Now, however Music and Artist Info is
even more broken (previously the lyric look-up worked just not album
review or artist bio, now nothing works). I am reporting my SSL info
from the Settings/Information header to keep advancing toward a
solution.

Uh... oh... a lot has changed in four and a half years... Please bring
your system up to date. Starting with the OS. Lack of recent support for

Agreed, yet back in 2018 LMS wouldn't work on the most recent piOS
(raspbian Stretch) due to a Perl version incompatibility. Do you think
that the old age of the OS is the cause or just a good house cleaning
activity?
