Comment:

 I am not sure if this really makes sense. If you want port names that do
 not match any position name, than use aux1,aux2,aux3 and suchlike.
 However, this really makes them useless in a way.

 Please come up with a good use case, why this makes sense.

 There is no need to hardcode channel names in channelmap.c

 We should be able to specify arbitrary channel names in channel_map.

 I want to name my JACK ports output0, output1, output2 and so on. (and of
 course input0, input1 ..)
