Re: [Ql-Users] Happy New Year

2010-01-05 Thread SMSQ - Jochen Merz

Hello Adrian,

I am sorry to say that what YOU write about Royal mail is true for
Deutsche Post too.

They save on everything you can imagine: they took thousands of
postboxes away, so that millions of customers have to go/drive

longer routes to put their letters into boxes (and then they tell
us something about green post).

Last summer, they did not deliver post on Mondays (as an attempt to
save, and see how the people reacted).

Large letters and parcels without even a single delivery attempt
happened here too several times. There was too much to carry,
was the apology after my complaint. Well, if they reduce the
number of postman every other month, there IS probably too much
at some stage.
I call this FRAUD, as I pay for the delivery.
And - I have to drive through half the city to pick up the goods
as they removed this facility from the local post office.
When I catched a postman putting the card in (which said I was not at
home) and NOT having the item with him, I reported this to the local TV
and press and got the item delivered manually... and that has not
happened to me anymore.

And you think the UK postal services are bad... I guess that is
fact more or less everywhere where the customer does not count
anymore...

Cheers Jochen

Adrian D. Ives wrote:

Jochen,

Still no sign of QL Today here in Manchester, but I have to say that,
for me, the Royal Mail no longer serves any useful purpose. After all,
if you have a postal service that doesn't deliver the post, that
leaves red cards without even trying to deliver the parcels that they
never took out on the van in the first place, then they should simply
cease to exist.

I'm afraid that the Royal Mail is now the very epitome of what the
United Kingdom has become over these last fifteen years: a
bureaucratic nanny state where the only thing that matters is making
up new rules and finding new ways of not providing a service to the
customer.

Anyway, new year rant over!

Regards and a belated Happy New Year to all.

Hi

My copy of QL Today was delivered in South-East London today - 4th
January 2010.

I guess it has been waiting in the Sorting Office until after the New
Year, which is where the delay may lay.

I notice that it was posted in Austria - owing to a lower posting cost
charge there - yet has no date stamp on it.

There are all sorts of Welsh add-ons for Windows and its applications.

Trouble is, they tend to be expensive as they are for a small market.

If anyone wants to translate the odd comment in Welsh there's a free
if rather basic Welsh/English lexicon on my website.

Or, alternatively, ask Norman Dunbar. IIRC he has a Welsh speaker sat

I fairly quickly built up a reasonable Norwegian word list by visiting
Norwegian newspapers on the web and copying their text into the QL world and
running the text through Qspell (with the option to add unrecognised words
to a file). Every now and again I added the new word lists to the dictionary
and rebuilt the dictionary for efficiency. Did it every night for a couple
of weeks. Quick and easy using QPC2's copy and paste. Laborious keeping the
dictionary clean, though.

A happy new year to everyone on this list.

And a happy new year to my MinisQL. You'll remember a few weeks ago it
was giving me big problems with fast flashing cursor and shorter than
usual PAUSEs and Qubide problems.

Today, I finally plucked up the courage to take it all apart, check
and clean all contacts I could get at and try to reassemble it if I
could! As usual when I take a computer apart, there were screws left
over and so on which caused some head scratching as I tried to
remember where everything went.

Although I still don't know what caused the problems, it's now back to
normal. It does seem to have been bad contacts somewhere, although
goodness knows where because it wasn't done one step at a time.

It seems that cleaning out 2006 did the trick :-)

So, I hope yuo all have your QaLendar 2007 on your walls and looking
