Re: [Ql-Users] Using a Gold Card on a Standard QL

My backup QL is a JM rom machine with Gold Card, which work well together,
though I don't know what the Gold Card version is (it's in the attic at the
moment). As Tony inferred, it may well be evrsion dependent. It's not a
modified QL in any way, is it (thinking specifically of power/regulator
mods). Some Miracle products (e.g. Trump Card) needed quite a surge of power
at startup, settling down after a short while. I remember this being an
issue with the Sandy QPower regulator, for example.

Subject: [Ql-Users] Using a Gold Card on a Standard QL

I have been doing some head scratching yesterday over a QL which refused
to work with a Gold Card. When plugged in, I just got a high pitched
 squealing noise from the speaker.

Checked the expansion port and one of the pins was pushed through the
por, so it was considerably shorter than the others.

Having sorted this, the problem still existed. So, before I sent off a
QL I have just sold, I thought I had better check that one - lo and
 behold exactly the same problem.

 Weird I thought!

There was one common factor between the two QLs - they were both JM ROM
 version.
I upgraded the ROM to JS ROM and the problem went away

Odd, as the JM ROM was so widespread I should have thought the Gold Card
would have been compatible. I wonder what it is in the ROM which causes
 this problem?

In that case it is likely to be the Gold Card ROM - it is v2.21

It happens on two QLs, both JM ROM. Swap the ROM set for JS and they
work fine.
No modifications to the QL at all.

Sure is odd. The rom though *is* critical as the code is patched and
loaded into GC memory.
What GC eprom version is it? Maybe earlier ones were bugged.
