Fine!

Will you require a copy of version 1 (for traditional QDOS systems)
or version 2 (for Window Manager 2 systems)? Version 1 works with
most older systems with expanded memory (about 512K RAM minimum).

If everything goes well, I will own a GoldCard soon. So maybe I should

should

go for version2?

Some points for you to consider:

1) All versions of Launchpad need Pointer Environment.
2) To use Launchpad version 2 on a QL with Gold Card you will need
Pointer Environment version 2 or later. Further details and downloads
at http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/pe/index.html
(what this means is that Pointer Environment version 2 has Window
Manager version 2 included. It still only gives the usual mode 4 and
mode 8 on a Gold Card, but at least it allows programs designed for
WMAN2 to be run on a QDOS system).

Mote the small warning about version 2.02 on the page - I never got it
to work reliably on my system, so I use v2.01 on my QDOS systems. If
your QL has ROM version JS, MG or later, or a Minerva ROM, you can
also use version 2.03 of pointer environment.

This is all a little confusing when you haven't used QLs for a while,
so good luck with it!

If you are unsure I can bring both versions of Launchpad with me to
Lucerne.

Urs asked me to do a little presentation about the latest AmigaOS
(AmigaOS4.1), so I will travel with an Next-Gen Amiga and the latest
version of AmigaOS4.1 to the show. I hope it´s interesting for the
Mac- and QL-fans to learn something about another 68k-computer from
the eighties (till today).

Also I will bring some Amiga Future-magazines for free (the chief-

about the Sinclair QL in the next issue;-))

See you there!

Hi all

On the fly update: Villa Maria is one I can recommend. It's
2 Stars (only) but cosy and close to the event Location. CHF 80
per Person/Night inclusive breakfast is where you should start.
Depending on how many nights and how many persons in the room
it will be a little cheaper. Use the lucerne Tourismus Link in
the Event webpage to make sure you get correct county ;-) and
rates. The only problem is that they only have 10 rooms in
total (it's a small but nice place).

  Walking distance?
 About 800 Meters only.

I'm on the way now to meet the Dents.
I've been off-list and off-email the last few days.

Last Monday evening I met Markus Dettwiler, Jon and Lisbeth Dent at
the Dents home. We discussed the QL-Mac-Show.

On Tuesday and today I had a telephone conversation with Mrs.
Winkler of Villa Maria (the one in Lucerne, Pension Villa Maria,
Haldenstrasse 36). She told me that:

- she has no bookings from QLers so far.

- she can make a special rate if several QLers book their rooms
there and book directly at the hotel. Enquiries and direct
bookings to Mrs. Winkler, email account villama...@bluewin.ch
(bluewin is no 1. ISP in Switzerland), just tell her the
reference Koenig. Right now they still have 8 two/three bed
rooms free for the show weekend.

- BTW: Villa Maria will close for this Year Monday Nov 2nd (end
season for them), so QLers wanting to stay longer than the show
weekend should take a look for other Hotels (Dylwin and Ann went
for Hotel Bellevue, Seeburgstrasse 79 www.bellevue-luzern.ch)

Anyone considering attending the show, even not fully decided by
now, should please inform us using the pre-registration link on
the webpage (http://tinyurl.com/ql-mac-show) or email us.
It's somehow difficult to plan (eg. dinner site) if we do not
know approximate head count.

Looking forward to see many QL/Mac enthusiasts in Lucerne.

Best regards
Markus, Jon and Lisbeth, Urs

going into a Gay Bar by mistake, but deciding to stay once we saw the
range of beers they served!! The barman was trying desperately to work
out who was with who as it were, and I ended up having to show him how
to pull a pint of guinness properly.. Great times.

Re: [Ql-Users] ql-mac Lucerne show

2009-09-08 Thread SMSQ

Hi everbody,

I can report that I also booked the weekend in Luzern.

However, I don't think I will be there as a trader.
I'd like to take the other view this time, and be a visitor.
Can't carry many goods to Switzerland (non-EU) anyway.

If anybody would like me to bring something, I will do so.
I may also bring the latest selection of QL Today magazines
(including the forthcoming one with Tony Tebby's brandnew article).

I expect to be there Saturday late afternoon/evening for the dinner,
and the major part of Sunday.

Once again - if you need something, please mail me in advance and I
will try to bring it!

Hope to see many of you there's - I haven't managed to come to the UK,
unfortunately, this year, but I look forward to seeing many of you
in Switzerland!

Oh, and by the way ... the next issue of QL Today will be going to
the printer next week as scheduled and be shipped at around the 21st...
probably ALL together from Austria, as this could be cheaper (and
definitely faster) than sending part of it to the UK and carry on from
there.

If you have not renewed/subscribed yet, please do so within the next week.

Cheers Jochen

It's only 300km for me, in QL meeting terms that's practically next

It is http://www.villamaria.ch/

and prices are pretty similar to the Tourist Board website, ie from E99
a night.

Urs - one thing that the booking site does not say. What does double
room' mean?
In England that is one bed for two people. We say 'twin room' for one
room with two single beds.

That is what Simon and I need.

If you try www.luzern.com that site will let you book online and list

Beware. The prices if you book via the ql-mac-show site link

At Villa Maria, a room costing £51 per night is £85 on the official

In Switzerland hotels are terribly expensive. So are youth hostels,
but then the prices are those of youth hostels, and they provide
excellent quality.

Moreover I have the experience of the youth hostel in Lucerne, I was
there for 2 nights in the summer 2005 with my motorbike when there
were catastrophic rains all over Switzerland, and it is not so bad a
remembering as it could be.

Google Jugendherberge Luzern or go to http://www.youthhostel.ch/ and
everything is also explained in english.

If I can come I think that I will stay there.

That cannot be right.

Do a booking search from http://hotels.luzern.com for a triple room, and
you get CHF160 per night for the *room* including breakfast.
Going through to the booking, including city tax for two days that comes
to a total of CHF330.50 for three people and breakfast.

See http://tfs.firshman.co.uk/temp/villamaria01.png .

That looks OK to me. Do you want to join in a three bed room?

The prices on the hotel site are *double* the Tourist Board - amazing.

Yes, full address is:

Pension Villa Maria, Haldenstrasse 36, CH-6006 Luzern (Lucerne) which
Ann has booked via the tourist board in Lucerne while I was out this

www.luzern.com will at least give you some idea of the facilities, and

Our requirements are of course slightly different as we are combining
