Maybe it is down to version differences.

Yes, it is 6.01S on this computer, and on my other 'almost twin' PC it
is 6.01U ... although I don't think this is the problem as much as the
exact configuration.
I have just checked one against the other in the configuration, and
this has revealed that I made slightly different choices in the set up.
The interesting thing is they both have same 'built on' date - 14-03-02
- yet this one is missing the FTP client, and the other one has it. I
must have inadvertently clicked something on the installation, as it
was from the same CD ( or so I now assume ). Odd, though, that the
version numbers have a different letter at the end.
The letter is they type of license.
I always had 'U' which I thought was one user, and became 'M' when I
bought a two user license.
However, logically, 'S' is single user.
In any case, it doesn't affect the functionality, other that the number
of concurrent machines using TPE.
OK ... that probably explains the codes :-)

I have realised, again, that I left the FTP client out because of low
memory on the hard drive.

I believe I have now tracked down the problem ... a subtle typing error
of 'ql_users' rather than 'ql-users' for the mailing list.

It is not. Not really that is. Turnpike (and the Bat!) are smart enough to
be able to distinguish them, however others (like Opera's M2, Eudora 5/6
etc) rely on the standard and thus it becomes a headers issue. (ie if
some are missing then the post is not considered an mailing list message).
Moreover this approach at times is better as it can potentially protect
you from fraudulent posts (ie the spammer or virus writer may simulate
some of the headers but not all of them (especially in a closed list like
this one). The appropriate headers approach therefore will work great
with both Turnpike and everything else that supports separation of regular
from mailing list emails without loss of functionality (and a couple of
additional benefits too)

Mind you get software (like Turnpike) which does all the necessary
routeing etc by sender address. That is just as good isn't it?
No, not really since an email can be send from a mailing list but can also
be forged (see above).

If Bruce wants a sample configuration file for majordomo I'd be glad to
send him one. (It's also nice how you upload that... easy as 1,2,3)

Not Turnpike. It simply offers mail routing - with a potentially

That is because this is NOT the Colour driver-enabled SMSQ/E although it

The colour driver -inclusive version measures a hefty 161K (30 K approx
