[RecipesAndMore] Kugale:(Baked potato pancake mixture)

2008-12-31 Thread Angelique in Texas

Happy New Year EveryoneKugale:(Baked potato
pancake mixture)
8 Red potatoes (medium size)
1 egg
3 or 4 tablespoons of flour
1 large onion
couple of shakes of salt and pepper
5 slices of bacon (chopped)
You will need a 9 iron skillet, because this will go in oven.
Peel potatoes and put in water- add a little salt to keep potatoes from
turning brown-then peel onion. Before starting to grate potatoes and
onion-cut bacon in small pieces and brown in the iron skillet you will
be using for baking.
Grate potatoes and onion in large mixing bowl, add the egg, flour, salt
and pepper-mix this together well, then pour bacon and grease into
batter leaving some grease in the skillet. Stir batter then pour into
iron skillet, bake in oven at 375* for one (1) hour. After one hour use
a clean knife in center of skillet, and if the knife is clean, your
Kugale is done. If not keep checking using this method.
Your Kugale should have a brown crust on top, slice as you would a pie.
I always placed a pat of butter on my slice, or even a little sprinkle
of sugar. This is not the time to worry about your waistline, because if
you made this recipe you will be hard pressed not to eat more than one
slice. Enjoy! One of your loyal fans, Phil
From Kieto: Add a dallop of applesauce and/or sour cream to the Kugale.
YUM!

1 cup broccoli, chopped
1/2 cup red bell pepper, chopped
1 garlic clove, pressed
4 ounces (1 cup) sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons all-purpose dill mix
1/3 teaspoon salt
2 (8 ounce) packages refrigerated crescent rolls
1 egg white, lightly beaten
2 tablespoons slivered almonds
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Place chopped chicken, broccoli, and bell pepper in bowl. Press garlic

mayonnaise, dill mix and salt; mix well.
Unroll 1 package of crescent rolls; do not separate. Arrange longest
sides of dough across width of 12 x 15-inch rectangle stone. Repeat with
remaining package of dough. Using roller, roll dough to seal
perforations.
On longest sides of baking stone, cut dough into strips 1 1/2 inches
apart, 3 inches deep. Spread filling evenly over middle of dough.
To braid, lift strips of dough across mixture to meet in center,
twisting each strip one turn. Continue alternating strips to form a
braid.
Tuck ends under to seal at end of braid. Brush egg white over dough
using Pastry Brush. Sprinkle with almonds. Bake 25 for 28 minutes or
until deep golden brown.

Recipe for a Happy New Year

Take 12 fine, full-grown months.
See that these are thoroughly cleansed from all old
memories of bitterness, rancor, hate, and jealousy.

Cut these months into 30 or 31 equal parts. (This batch will keep for one
year. Do not attempt to make more than one batch at a time... many people
spoil the entire lot in this way).

Prepare one day at a time as follows:
Into each day, put 12 parts of faith, 11 of patience, 10 of courage, nine of
work (some people omit this ingredient and spoil the flavor of the rest),
eight of hope, seven of fidelity, six of open-mindedness, five of kindness,
four of rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad ...
don't do it), three of prayer, two of meditation, and one of well-selected
resolution.

If you have no conscientious scruples, add a teaspoonful of good spirits, a
dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of
good humor. Pour love liberally into the whole, and mix with vim.

Cook thoroughly in a fervent heat. Garnish with a few smiles and a sprig of
joy; then serve with quietness, unselfishness, and cheerfulness.
A Happy New Year is a certainty!

A single candle can illuminate an entire room. A true friend lights up
an entire lifetime. Thanks for the bright lights of your friendship.

[RecipesAndMore] TIP FOR POPPING OPEN THE BUBBLY:

2008-12-31 Thread Helen

TIP FOR POPPING OPEN THE BUBBLY:

When opening a bottle of bubbly it is important to pay
attention. Most people, both in real life and in movies,
open Champagne bottles in stupidly dangerous ways. Here's
the correct method:

1. Cut the foil around the top of the bottle.
2. Place your hand or your thumb on top of the cork. Keep
it there until the cork is out. Shooting corks all over
   the place is not cute.
3. Loosen the wire cage. No, you don't need three hands;
the hand that holds the bottle can have its thumb on
   the cork.
4. Wrap a towel around the bottle to prevent slippage.
5. Ease the cork out gently by slowly twisting the bottle
in one direction. You do not want the Champagne to foam
or the cork to pop, or you will lose precious bubbles.

Remember to serve Champagne in either a flute or tulip-shaped
glass to help preserve the bubbles which, after all, are what
make Champagne unique!
