Artichoke Nibbles
2 jars marinated artichoke hearts (6 oz)
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced or mashed
4 medium eggs
1/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs

1/8 t. liquid hot pepper seasoning

less than the juice from 1 jar, as it tends to be a little greasy.
Discard juice from other jar. Chop all artichokes, set aside.
Add onion and garlic to skillet and saute until onion is limp, about 5
minutes. Ina bowl, beat eggs, crumbs, salt, pepper, oregano, and hot
pepper seasoning. Stir in cheese, parsley, artichokes and onion mixture.
Turn into greased 7 x 11 pan.
Bake at 325 for 30 minutes or until set when lightly touched. Let cool
in pa. Cut into 1 squares. Can freeze after cooking and be reheated at
325 for 10 minutes or more.
Makes about 6 dozen.

[RecipesAndMore] handy hints

2009-02-15 Thread Delma

Handy Hint #1:Make your clothes last longer! How, you ask? Simply
turn your clothes inside out before throwing them in the washer.
Studies show damage from washing and drying is the number on way
clothes get worn out- but this trick reduces fading, snagging and
pilling, so you can wear them twice as long.

Handy Hints #2: To get something out of a heat register or under the
fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your
vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Handy Hint #3: Use a baking soda paste to prevent stains on
tupperware. Also, let gravies and/or sauces cool before adding to
Tupperware.

[RecipesAndMore] How many of these did YOU know about?

2009-02-15 Thread Delma

How many of these did YOU know about?

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a
Knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.
(hmm...)

Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords - It keeps them
neat and you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

For icy door steps in freezing temperatures - Get warm water and put
Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't
refreeze. (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)

To remove old wax from a glass candle holder - Put it in the freezer for
a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The
wax will fall out.

=

Crayon marks on walls - This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped

in baking soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).

===! =

Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops - (like store receipt
BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.

=Whenever I purchase a box of
S.O.S Pads - I immediately take a pair of

scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw
away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would
be much more economical. Now a box of S.O.S pads last me indefinitely!
In fact, I have noticed that the scissors get 'sharpened'' this way!

=

Blood stains on clothes - Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogen
peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works
every time! (Now, where to put the body?) LOL

==! ===

Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal
for inside windows - This way you can tell which side has the streaks.
Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean. Don't wash windows
on a sunny day. They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.

Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb - In any room to create a lovely
light scent in each room when the light is turned on.

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers - And your clothes will
smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels
 linens.

Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer - for at least 3
hours prior to burning.

=

To clean artificial flowers - Pour some salt into a paper bag and add the
flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt
leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

=

To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet - Simply add a drop or
two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to
a boil on stove top.

==

Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray - Before pouring
in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains.

=

Wrap celery in aluminum foil - When putting in the refrigerator and it will
keep for weeks.

=

When boiling corn on the cob - Add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the
Corn's natural sweetness.

=

Cure for headaches - Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your
forehead. The throbbing will go away.

=

Don't throw out all that leftover wine - Freeze into ice cubes for future
Use in casseroles and sauces .left over wine? What's that? :)

=

To get rid of itch from mosquito bites - Try applying soap on the area
and you will experience instant relief.

=

Ants, ants, ants everywhere - Well, they are said to never cross a chalk
Line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants
Tend to march. See for yourself.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors - It does a good job and better still,

leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

When you get a splinter - reach for the scotch tape before resorting to
tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, and
then pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

=

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer - Clean a toilet.

Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The
citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.

reviving takeaway fries that have been put in the fridge

Transfer them to a plate, rince hands but do not dry! Rub the water
from your hands all over your fries. Make sure they are coated. Make
sure you get water on all of them, but not too much.
Then, just bang 'em in the microwave on high for 1.5 minutes.
Sounds odd, but it works!

[RecipesAndMore] Juicer Recipes Needed

2009-02-15 Thread Starfire1939
I was at the Goodwill yesterday and came across a Hamilton Beach Health
Smart Juicer. Do you happen to have one or a juicer that you have used? I
thought
about using it for Ashlee for her liquids. I got a great deal on it, 3
bucks! So now I need some recipes to put it to use. Dee had a green apple and
we
put it through it and it put out a good bit of juice for just one apple, it
was somewhat tart though. If you or someone ya know has one and uses it, snag
some recipes for me. I am searching online for some as well.

4) A small Chinese tree widely cultivated throughout temperate regions,
having pink flowers and edible fruit. In spite of the tree's short life,
its
fruit was a symbol of immortality to the ancient Chinese. They exchanged
the
fruit as a token of affection and placed bowls of them in the tombs of
loved
ones to prevent the bodies from decaying. They are believed to have
originated in China then to have spread westward through Asia to the
Mediterranean countries and later to other parts of Europe. On his
travels
in China, Marco Polo encountered ones that weighed as much as several
pounds. Spanish explorers brought the them to the New World. In colonial
America, they were used for feeding pigs and making brandy.

Worldwide, they are the third major deciduous-tree fruit. The United
States
is the major producer, accounting for about one fifth of the world's
supply.
Italy is second, with about one sixth of the world supply. France,
Greece,
and Spain also produce substantial crops.

Can you name this fruit?

5) Born during the Great Depression, this snack treat was developed by
bakers who tried scores of recipes before they were satisfied with the
results. They were first manufactured in the company's north
Philadelphia
bakery, and introduced to the public in Philadelphia and Baltimore on
November 21, 1934, at 19 cents per box. Success was immediate. In the
first
year of production, the company baked 5 billion of this snack treat,
about
40 for every man, woman and child in America in 1935. They remain a best
seller in its class today.

Can you name this snack treat?

6) These plants, native to Central and South America are grown
worldwide,
both as garden flowers and for culinary uses. The brilliant yellow,
orange
or red flowers and peppery flavored leaves are used in salads. The
flowers
may also be chopped and used to flavor butters, cream cheese and
vinegar;
the immature flower buds and seed pods may be pickled and used like
capers.
There is also a species found in the Andes which is a vegetable tuber
crop.

1) A nectarine is a fuzzless variety of peach. It is NOT a cross between
a
peach and a plum.

Peach seeds may occasionally grow into trees that bear nectarines, and
nectarine seeds may grow into trees that bear either nectarines or
peaches.
It is not possible to know which fruit will grow on trees grown from
nectarine seeds, so branches from trees that produce nectarines are
grafted
onto peach trees to grow nectarines commercially.

[RecipesAndMore] Cooking Tip: Oranges

2009-02-15 Thread Angelique in Texas

EASY TO PEEL ORANGES!
Need to peel a bunch of oranges for a salad? Just soak the oranges in
boiling water for five minutes then peel as usual. As a bonus, the
white part of the peel will come off along with the peel to give a
beautiful presentation! FYI: The bigger the naval, the sweeter the
orange!

reviving takeaway fries that have been put in the fridge

Transfer them to a plate, rince hands but do not dry! Rub the water
from your hands all over your fries. Make sure they are coated. Make
sure you get water on all of them, but not too much.
Then, just bang 'em in the microwave on high for 1.5 minutes.
 Sounds odd, but it works!
