See http://www.dioceseofeaston.org/licensetags.html: MARYLAND DRIVERS: Order your Episcopal Church license tags here! The Diocese of Easton has made arrangements with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration for the production and distribution of Episcopal Church license tags. They are available to all Episcopalians in the Dioceses of Easton, Maryland, and Washington whose autos are registered in Maryland. * They're cheap! ($26) * They let others know you're proud of your church! * They're ready for delivery now! SIMPLE 2 STEP PROCESS First, fill out a form that affirms your membership in any Maryland Episcopal Church, and send it to us with a check for $26 (25 to the state, a dollar to us for our postage costs). This form is online and can be downloaded. Second, we'll mail you an MVA application to complete and send back to us. You should have your new license plates in a few weeks. Any thoughts on this? RE: Maryland license tags for the Episcopal Church
Let me correct myself: The Ali Ghan Temple, despite its name, is a Shriner organization, not a religious group as such. But non-Episcopalian religious groups have certainly gotten them. And given the First Amendment, Satanists and Wiccans would naturally have to be given them as well -- if Maryland tries to deny a plate to Satanists, that would surely be held unconstitutional. Let's assume that Maryland officials comply with their First Amendment obligations on this, by not discriminating based on religion or viewpoint; would there still be a constitutional problem? Eugene Paul Finkelman writes: But, are they non-preferential. I was serious when I asked if satanists or wickens (spelling?) or other non-standard faiths could get thes? If not then wouldn't they be problematic on that ground? Are they only available to Episcopalians? ___ To post, send message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, unsubscribe, change options, or get password, see http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/religionlaw
