[Repeater-Builder] Re: TPL (Transistor Progress Line)

2005-04-26 Thread Al Wolfe

I have two Measurements signal generators that if you talk into them it
modulates the signal. Have actually had QSO's on two meters using this
technique. Figured it must be a feature. Can be a challenge, though,
aligning a receiver with the volume tuned up very high.

Al, K9SI

Remember Pace? Vaguely ... think that was the radio that had the
built-in microphonic modulator ... yelling at the radio produced
  recoverable audio at the receiver.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Micor repeater power supply

If it is a TPN1105A, then the battery back-up is built in.

Connect your battery to the large terminal block on the back
through a 30 ampere fuse. Be careful to set the output voltage
of the power supply so you don't boil the battery.

I have one of those power supplies in service here for a pair of
 Micor Repeaters.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Delay line chip (DAD4096) for Kendecom Mark 4

2005-04-26 Thread DCFluX

Progress Report on this dead thread:

I got some free time to experiment. I was able to make a attempt
using a ATtiny26. I used the atmel's internal ADC biased to 2.5V with
100K resistors to +5 and GND and audio coupled in with a 0.22uF
capacitor. For the DAC I used a resistor ladder built with 20K and
10K resistors and audio coupled out with a 0.22uF. And I am using a
256Kbit 25MHz bus speed serial nvram for the storage.

It works, But...

Because of the succesive aproximation nature of the atmel's ADC there
is not enough speed to make the project usable. Each conversion takes
between 16uS and 256uS. and a different variable means a different
sampling time. I was able to sustain a sampling rate of about 2.8kHz,
which if you know anything about digital audio means that the best
frequency that can be passed is 1.4kHz. I am doing some math to
convert the 10bit ADC to 8bit for the DAC and to save space in the
RAM, but it is not what is slowing it down as it is a simple Shift
statement.

So, It sounds like ass. But you can hear audio running and I was
supprised by the fact that it actually worked at all. It kinda sounds
like a really bad digital cell phone connection at the moment, or the
sound from a OP-amp that doesn't have negitave voltage to it. The
closer I could get the audio to do a full swing from 0 to +5 or 5V
peak to peak the better it sounded because of utilization of more
bits.

I am now trying to locate 12 or 16 bit ADC/DACs to continue
experimentation, with sampling rates of either 32kHz for 12 and 44.1
or 48kHz for 16bit.

In the future I will use a dual op-amp for the audio in and out as it
will do a better job of biasing to 2.5V than the 2 resistors.

Use a timer to space out the ADC samples.
The timer runs as long as the longest ADC conversion (BTW you can
violate the aDC clock, you just get less resolution)
You don't start a new sample till the timer runs out.

My recommendation: TLV2372 (dual) or TLV2374 (quad). Rail-to-rail in out
no crossover distortion. There is a slight offset voltage shift about
1.35 V below Vcc (not the same or as bad as crossover distortion but can
affect the common mode rejection ratio); for maximum performance just run
off of 12 V bias @ 5 V for 0 to 10 V operation.

The LMC6482 LMC6484 are allegedly better but pricier too.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Re: Delay line chip (DAD4096) for Kendecom Mark 4

2005-04-26 Thread Dave VanHorn

This would work, to solve the aproximation scheme to make the samples
fixed at approx 2.5K but the ADC is still not fast enough for complex
audio. I am thinking of a 8bit 44Khz ADC for cost reasons. I don't
know if I want to use a Serial DAC or a resistor DAC. I just got some
Tiny45s to play with so maybe there is enough horse power there to run
everyrhing.

You may find that even 7 bit audio is fine, if the samples are regular enough.

Stay away from the LM324, nasty crossover distortion.

I have never had a problem with the LM324 for any reason, but usually
I use the TL084 and TL082 when I need only 2 op-amps

They get nasty when lightly loaded. A 2.2k pullup solves it.

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Repeater whit portable

2005-04-26 Thread kc7gf

The Motorola R100 is another good choice for a portable UHF repeater, comes in a 15 and 25 watt version, is programmable, can be run directly off of 12v and is quite small.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Micor repeater power supply

2005-04-26 Thread John Place

I figured as much. Just thought someone may have come up with a way to
tap into the circuit and make it happen.

Has anyone come up with a way to power the micor repeater

to hook 12. volts to for battery backup.

John,

When you talk to them, ask them to update their web site with the NFCC.

 John,

Contact Howard Grant (below) for coordination request.

The troy state univeristy url is old. Used to auto-direct you to the new
one, but looks like they've finally pulled the plug. The new one is:
http://www.alabamarepeatercouncil.org/ which Jim correctly gave you.

The website has an online application you can download and send to Howard.
I'd drop Howard an email telling him where the proposed repeater would be
located. You'll find many areas of Alabama have no open 2 meter pairs
 available.
