[Repeater-Builder] Phoenix non scan Scanner

2009-05-14 Thread k0jxi
Anybody have any idea who might have made a aftermarket channel scan board for
a regular non scan Phoenix ( speaker is internal)

The board is about three quarters of an inch wide and two and one half or so
long. Sets on the left side top as viewed from the front. Has a toggle switch
extending through the front panel with three positions. Fast, slow and center
not scan.

Any documention or information would be appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Good thought about the DCS and DPL modulation
and direct FM. I have a couple of the Delta Crystal units but tired
of buying crystals. Since the Phoenix does dpl I may get lucky
there.
I have a friend that has an application that best used true FM so I
am trying to hook him up with a radio. I need to look at the diagrams
more closely and see where they inject both the audio and PL.

Well, first off, there ARE crystal versions of both the Delta and
Phoenix. I don't know if they're FM or PM. Just FYI...

Because the others are synthesized, I more believe they are FM. And
to
add to that, they are all DCG (DCS/DPL) capable, and that
*requires*
direct FM of at least that part of the modulation.

Also you'd be hard pressed to find very many PM radios made in the
last
15 years or so. The MLS and MVS are less than 20.

I have noticed a constant 20 to 30 db over S9 noise level on 40 and

bad on the higher bands and 6 and 2 fairly quiet. Then I noticed all
these blue signs at everyother house and it started making me wonder.
The noise is always there at that level and never goes away even
when it rains.

I am now going to go mobile and see what I find.

Appreciate hearing from any one else who may have noticed the same

That is a good idea. They xtal still works but the oven quit. You
can warp in on freq but there would not be much freq stability. It
looks like a TO220 transistor shorted blowing a resistor that was in
series with the 110 supply. I have a 1 mhz TCXO I bought on a whim a
number of years ago if I could only find it.

have to look at the actufal freq on a as is basis. The location is
where there are few repeaters so the chance of a getting a unsed pair

[Repeater-Builder] Re: 2 Delta S's as a UHF repeater

2004-05-19 Thread k0jxi
Thanks much for the info. Did you use S or SXs for two meters?

I have done this on both 2 meters and 70cm with no problems. In fact, if you
set the radios up identically, you can 'flip' them if either a transmitter or
 receiver
 fails.

Just wonder if anyone has used two 450 Delta S model radios with one as the
receiver and one as the transmitter for a repeater

Thinking that the narrowband models might have the needed isolation for
  installation

  Thanks, Dale

[Repeater-Builder] Re: Z-Matcher adjustment

2004-01-27 Thread k0jxi
Have not looked at all the posts about the z matcher but has anyone memtioned
that DB Products makes one for several
bands---150 and 450 and probably other bands. They have a reflected
voltage/wattage metering circuit built in and one
tunes it for min reverse reading. Just a simple pi network. Works great.

Couldn't agree with you more. The important point is that you can't insert
an SWR meter or wattmeter in the line to make adjustments and then take it
out. The GE Z-match gives you the directional coupler which gives you a
leg up on the adjustment process. Otherwise you are stuck with the max
output for min current. Of course that should be our objective anyhow but
many don't have an ammeter or voltmeter on the power source (I just
replaced stuck plastic meters on one of my Astrons with digital panel
 meters: http://astron.w4zt.com).
