[Repeater-Builder] Re: Repeater /Crossband Help

2010-03-17 Thread ka9qjg1

Thanks for the thoughts on My little Cross band/Repeater project , I think I
will just quit trying to reinvent the Wheel and take My Old Midland 13-509
220 rig and a Motorola Maxtrac and make My own set up with a Pl on Both .

That should solve my problem The Old Midland can be turned down to less than a
watt. And the Maxtrac can run all day on 25 Watts and a fan.

PS Sorry if this Went out 2 times Having E-Mail Probs

Thanks Don

KA9QJG

I tightened up the SQ And moved the Unit over more from the Repeater , But now
it is a Lot harder to get in to But at Least it is NOT Locking up .

PS Thanks Mark this is the Mobile Micor I don't know if that is the same ,
Anyway I need a Better Quality receiver than a Ham Rig anyway and As We know
Motorola , Motorola , Motorola Yes I like MOTOROLA Lol

Don,

There is an article on the Repeater-Builder web site (not the Yahoogroup
page) about how to disable the always on channel element in the Micor
exciter. I think this is what you need to eliminate your problem.

It is described in this article:
http://www.repeater-builder.com/micor/stationcontrol.html

Look in the section titled, Keyed Exciter Channel Element Modification

Also look here:
http://www.repeater-builder.com/micor/stationmod.html
about half way down the article, under the heading Modifications relating
to the chassis and find the subsection titled For the Transmit Exciter you
have a choice:

I also thought there was a more comprehensive article describing the issue
you are experiencing, but for the life of me, I cannot find it right now...

Hello hope Everyone is doing well, I have ran into a little Problem and
thought I would get some suggestions on how to resolve it
I have a Motorola Micor 224.40 repeater built By Scott N3XCC , here on the
Repeater builder group; it has worked great for over 3 Yrs.

I have a Few Hams in the area who do not have 220 but the know and would
like to talk to some of their friends who do , So I took My Kenwood TM-631
Duel band found a Local 2 Meter Simplex that Myself and a few others have
been using for over 20 Yrs .
I turned the 220 Transmit down as low as I could get it which is 2 Watts
That goes into a Bird 100Watt Dummy load . The 2 Meter side I have set a
10 watts and a 3 In muffing Fan that runs while Transmitting It runs nice
and Cool ,

Everyone likes it and it works fine Except that is has been keying up on
the 2 Meter side off and on sometimes as long as 3 4 Min Unfortunately I
had disabled the TOT And on this Radio you can only have a PL On one side
and I need that on the 220 side .

What I think is going on is that the Micor 220 has a Very small signal on
the output always being transmitted. No big deal except for what I am
trying to do and that will random bring up the 2 Meter Transmit.

This radio has the 6 In Pigtails coming out to a SO-239 I wrapped them with
Foil and Moved the Duel band radio about 10 ft away from the Repeater
which is in a 4 ft Motorola case . The link is being Id When the Repeater
is being used.

Any thoughts will be great appreciated, The hams using this really like it
that don't have 220 they can now use their 2 Meter Mobile and Ht .

Thanks Don

[Repeater-Builder] OT P25 Versus Analog Test by Maple Bluff Fire Department, Dane County WI

2010-03-08 Thread ka9qjg1
As Scanner Listeners And some on this group are actual users ,I found this
very informative. And Yes I do agree that The FD and Anyone that have to use
the New Radios and Put their Life on the line depending on them this is Very
Important

The 2 FD Guys did a Great Job on this too

Happy Scanning

Don KA9QJG

Interesting audio quality tests with various p25/analog radios under various
noise conditions conducted by firefighters of Maple Bluff, WI FD.

http://www.mapleblufffire.com/videos/Narrowband-radio-test

Prior to January 1, 2013, emergency service departments nationwide will need to
comply with the new FCC narrowband guidelines. On February 24, 2010 the Maple
Bluff Fire Department (MBFD), in Dane County WI, performed an unbiased and
impartial radio test. We compared the sound quality of the Kenwood TK-5210,
Motorola XTS-2500, Motorola XTS-5000, Motorola APX-7000, EF Johnson SL 5100,
Tait 9135, and ICOM 9011 under normal firefighter work conditions. These radios
were tested in Digital and Analog modes. The Maple Bluff Fire Department is not
endorsing any particular manufacturer, vendor, or radio type, and realize there
are radios on the market that were not tested. The radios seen in this test
were selected by availability at the time of the test. We hope this video is
useful and informative for you and your department.

[Repeater-Builder] Unlawful in Il to Rebroadcast Public Safety Communications

2010-02-18 Thread ka9qjg1
FYI

It is now Against the Law in Il To Rebroadcast Public safety Communications
including radio or Internet

I know most of us in this Hobby are aware of all the Scanner Type
Communications being linked d to the Internet. I always wondered about the
legality of doing this especially living in one of the Few States that have an
Anti Scanner Law against mobiles and Handhelds unless one is exempt.

I always liked the idea of seeing something big on the News and finding a site
from that area to listen to it Live .

Well it looks like Il has put together a law against doing this I do not know
about other states . Or how this is going to stop the On Line Scanner stations.

Also as written unless I have permission it looks like I cannot rebroadcast the
Amber Alerts which come out over My Emerg Weather Receive on My Repeaters I am
sure others have this on the Repeters too

This will be interesting to see if anyone is a actually charged with this

Don KA9QJG

Statutes Amended In Order of Appearance
20 ILCS 2615/11 new
20 ILCS 2615/12 new

safety voice or data communication transmitted via the facilities of the
State's public safety radio system by wire or radio shall not, without the
written authority of the originator of the communication, rebroadcast the
communication via any means, including radio or Internet, or otherwise divulge
or publish the existence, contents, substance, purport, effect, or meaning
thereof. Provides that this provision does not apply to the public safety radio
communication transmitted by any system station for the use of the general
public, including Amber Alerts and other communications specifically intended
for rebroadcast to the public. Provides that radio access to the public safety
radio system within the State may only be accomplished upon receipt of written
authorization granted by the appropriately licensed authority. Provides that a

[Repeater-Builder] OT Kenwood TM-3530A T Tones

2010-02-13 Thread ka9qjg1
I have an Old Kenwood TM-3530A 220 Radio I need to be able to send TT To work
on My Repeater Controller

The radio works fine I have a TT Kenwood Mic Good Audio but NO TT , I took it
apart and cleaned Everything and Still No TT ,

So I tried the Mic on My Kenwood TS-2000 Audio and TT Works fine.

I downloaded the Manual and see that this Radio is the Same as
TM-2570, TM-2550, TM-5550 E
And TM-2530A

I found that even without a TT Mic the Radio has built in TT Pad and Numbers
can be stored in Mem I do not Hear any TT When I press them either . but I can
hear them from the int Speaker but not in the Carrier .

I did the Adjustments to increase them but nothing is heard any Thoughts on
this would be greatly appreciated
