[Repeater-Builder] E.F Johnson Repeaters

2009-01-26 Thread D.
Hello to the group.
I have been reading some of the issues with having the crystals
recut from ICM on the E.F. Johnson CR1010 machine.
At the last thread it was stated that ICM does not support the re-
crystalization of these sockets/crystals.
Seeing how I have two CR-1010 and one CR-1000 machines that I
wanted to have for the Ham Band.

Does anyone have any further information on getting this done?

And I do not know what socket style I have, Old or New, and how
would one tell the difference anyway?

The thread I was reading is this: http://www.mail-

[Repeater-Builder] E.F. Johnson Repeaters

2008-12-14 Thread D.
Hello to the group. i am in need of some information on E.F. Johnson
Repeaters. I am looking for any data about retuning them back into the
UHF ham band.
I have two different machines with different product numbers on the
exciter / receiver / PA

Both machines have a controller, Channel Guard (PL Tones)
First Machine:
Model number of 023-1010-531 on the receiver, and M# 023-1010-120 on
the exciter, and a M# of 023-1010-200 on the PA. With Waycom
Duplexers 464.825/469.825

Second Machine:

Model # 023-3823 on RX, M# 242-1000-001 on TX, Decible Products
Duplexer 461.175/466.175 the PA is a TPL Communications RXR series.

I also have a third PA without any markings on it other than this
A033A053A 21532

I would like to have anything that would pertain to modifying there to
the UHF Ham Band. Manuals on the original configuration from E.F.
Johnson, to details from someone who has made this mod.

I will furnish Photos if this would help.

Thanks,
Danny

Re: [Repeater-Builder] E.F. Johnson Repeaters

Hello,
I serviced many of these back in the day... the 1010 is a slightly later
version of the 1000, both are good units, and will retune into the ham band
with little or no modification needed. The crystals are very 'finicky', do not
try to replace them yourself, only International Crystal can successfully do
them, you must return the ICOMS for the 1010 to them. the 1000 uses crystals
without the icom as standard, but with a separate icom-like oscillator on a
flip up chassis in the exciter unit on optional stability models.. The Wacom
duplexer is a far superior unit to the DB one. The PA requires about 7 to 15
watts to drive to full power... ba careful however, it is possible to get over
130 watts out from the amp. ... great for a very short time. Adjust the power
set for 95 watts, no more, and it should run forever.
Schematic-wise, the TX and RX are basically mobiles, Fleetcom 559 as I recall.
The 1000 receiver should have an gold colored metal shield kit around the
chassis, an optional, but very much needed item for good performance. The later
1010 units are built as slide out brown colored drawer units, complete with an
integral controller unit, programmable from a touch tone key set on the front,
it sets PL, cor, etc.
