Some of the expense for a crane is travel time. Depending on the size of the
crane, it may have restricted times that it can be moved adding to the expense
of job. If I had a tower that I wanted to have taken down by a crane, I would
look around for a crane company doing work in my area. For example, if they
are in your area doing a pick of a modular home you may be able to negotiate a
lower price. This would mean that you would have to have a very flexible time
frame and may have to pay COD when the work is done.

We just had to have a crane come in to pick a substation transformer off the
ground and place it on a flatbed. There was no wait time as the transformer
was all disconnected and already sitting outside the substation fence. Cost
for crane was a little over $4,000.00.

Now, I can only imagine the cost to have a crane take that tower down if one
 ends up being needed.

Nice tower, he should rent space on it.

Two smart ways to get rid of that tower and both will cost
some serious money.

If the owner wants to reuse the feed line and antennas... add
more money on the order of 3 to 6 dB min fees.

Current price to properly pull that tower down is going to be
between about $3k to $5.5k for the non pro work force and about
$6.5 to $14k for the pro crew with insurance and the proper
equipment and people to complete the job.

He's going to be the one making the donation...

I've tried several ways to put the link together with no success. These
don't work for me:

Is the picture still available?

I've seen some 40+ year old towers that are still in very good
condition. But I agree most that age aren't worth much if anything.

Thanks Paul. Guess I picked up the www by clicking on the first part of
the original link then pasting the work wrapped part.

If that tower was in my area there is a local crane operator who would
lay that stick down for less than $500 and no one would even have to climb.
