[Repeater-Builder] Re: antennas for gmrs repeater

2007-12-21 Thread Ryan
The Antennex FG4605 for this application will be the best bang for
the buck. This antenna is very durable and will withstand the abuse
a 300 ft tower produces in rough enviroments. As stationmaster's get
the crakles after a few years of service from not being secured to
side of tower. Call your local two-way radio shop for a price. I
think they are about 225.00-245.00 via tessco. Also remember to feed
the antenna with quality hardline like andrews 7/8 for longer runs.
Dipoles are great but sounds like access to the tower is very
limited if a antenna repair is needed. Also make sure the antenna
system is grounded and has lighting protection. These days
insursance providers look for these types on items.

 Jed,

You really can't go wrong with a Decibel Products (Andrew) DB-404,
for less
than $400. It has great durability, and its coverage pattern is
very
uniform. It is a dual-dipole antenna that can be set for omni or
elliptical
 pattern.

 Hey guys,
Any opinions on an antenna for a gmrs repeater? It won't be going
on
a 300 foot tower, but it will be on the top of a hospital.
I would rather not get a station master, but something that could
 withstand a little weather.
Any ideas on the biggest bang for the buck?

 Thanks,
 Jed

My first recommendation would be a RF Systems PD1151, but since you
don't want to spend the money for a Station Master, how about a
Hustler Newtronics G6-450-3?

You should be able to pick one of these up for under $200.
Reportedly, they stand up to the weather pretty well. The first
choice PD1151 would run you about $650.

Check out COMTELCO antennas, they are on the web at www.comtelcoantennas.com I
have many of them in service with 100% results. They are equal in gain and
performance to other more expensive antennas. I recommend the ones with 1.5
inch tubes, not the smaller 1inch tube models.
