[Repeater-Builder] Wanted: Motorola PT-400 Lunchbox radio

2010-07-12 Thread jistabout
Hi everyone!

I have been contacted by a group which is involved in a restoration
project at the Reagan Ranch and they are in need of a Motorola PT-400
for one of their artifacts. I looked through my own pile and all I have
left is a PT-500 which won't work for them.

So I promised that I would post it here. If you have such a thing and
can help then please contact Danielle Fowler direct at the following

[Repeater-Builder] Wanted: G.E. VHF HB UHS preamp

2010-04-15 Thread no6b
Bought one several years ago from Kevin @ the Repeater-Builder booth in
Dayton. Works very well (~0.13 µV for 12 dB SINAD on the MVP it's in), but
now I need another one. Got another one, Kevin? If not, does anyone else?

BTW, I did the antenna-load sensitivity substitution test last night on 2
MVPs, one with one without the preamp. The MVP with no preamp showed ~5
dB SINAD degradation between the antenna load. With that much noise
coming down the antenna, reducing the noise figure of the RX doesn't help
much, maybe a dB or two. But once you throw in the duplexer loss, which in
this case is 2.1 dB, the antenna noise is reduced to only 3 dB over the
load. Now the preamp improves actual sensitivity by 3 dB, which is just
enough to make it worthwhile to use IMO. In addition, this will be for a
portapeater that will be deployed in a rural area so the antenna noise will
probably be lower.

Does anyone have an owners manual for the IFR FM/AM 1500 that is

Chris,
I had the same need a few months ago. Sal had a copy and sent it to
me. I do not have a means to copy it but if all else fails I can get
it copied commercially. My copy is not perfect; it would be much
better to copy an original if one can be found.
The application notes are very useful but the Operator's Guide has
a lot more information in it.

[Repeater-Builder] Wanted: Stabilock 4015 RF Unit

2009-07-17 Thread cruizzer77
I have been unlucky with my Stabilock 4015 lately. First of all some may
ask why didn't you get a HP, and I will tell you that over here in
Europe HPs are just not nearly as widespread as in the US.

First the computer board was faulty and I finally sent the monitor to a
specialist in Germany for diagnosis who found a solution for the
computer. But he told me that there was also a problem with the RF Unit
(either I had never noticed it or it went bad while the computer wasn't
working) and that this unit needs replacing. Trying to repair it would
almost certainly be of no avail. He wouldn't want to repair it himself
(he was fair and said he would feel bad for ripping me off as a success
is too uncertain) and I don't have the lab equipment to even try it.
Willtek (that's the name of the manufacturer now) offers exchange units
but as a technical university student I can't afford the prices they're
asking.

Therefore I am looking for a used but working RF Unit so that I can
continue to use my Stabilock, if anybody has one or knows somebody who
has please get in touch with me. Thanks.

I do not believe that any of these cable assemblies utilize double shielded
coax. If someone knows differently, please let the group know.

Personally, I'd use some RG-400 silver Teflon coax. You can get crimp
chassis jacks for it, or use a hood. Short center pin Teflon phono plugs are
available from The RF Connection.

The Mastr II mobile has never been my favorite for repeater conversions, as
I always get exciter to LO coupling resulting in TX spurs RX
desense. But for the ones I've done I use the existing SO239 for the RX
connection pop a hole in the side of the chassis right next to the
antenna relay mount a coax-fed BNC bulkhead there. The coax run from the
TX RCA connector to that connector is very short. I think I used RG-223
for that run but since it's so short I doubt the shielding matters.

So, does anyone have a handful of coax assemblies they took out of mastr

You know, the phono to so-239 bits?

OR, what's the consensus on adding the rx port in a conversion?

 Thanks for your time.

Superflex (FSJ-x) is not quite as good in an outdoor run, and may
deteriorate quicker. At least that's what I've been told.
FSJ-4 is still considered 1/2, but yes it does take different connectors.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] WANTED: heliax

2009-02-24 Thread Jeff DePolo

I really don't like using Superflex (FSJ) outdoors. The jacket on FSJ is
much thinner than it is on LDF, making it easier to get water in due to a
small nick. Also, the corrugation on FSJ is helical (spiral), whereas LDF
is annular (rings). The helical corrugation also makes it easier for
water to spiral down the line in the vent you get a knick in it somewhere
along the vertical run. Granted, the effects of water trapped between
jacket and shield isn't a huge problem; it's when the water gets forced into
the connector body and ends up flooding the contact interface that you
really have a problem...

If you want the installation to last, hold out for LDF. You might find 7/8
cheaper on the surplus market than 1/2 because it's more commonly used,
especially in longer lengths.

RE: [Repeater-Builder] WANTED: heliax

2009-02-24 Thread Mark
Chris,

I'd use LDF for the long run, and FSJ for jumpers. Also, you'll need a
short jumper of RG-213, 9914, or similar at the antenna end to allow you to
rotate the beam(s). I don't think the FSJ is meant to be *THAT* flexible.

FWIW - I run 1/2 Heliax to my 2m/70cm stick at the top of my tower, with a
short section of 9914 from the Heliax to the antenna itself. Inside the
shack, I use FSJ1-50 (I think that's the nomenclature - it's 1/4, RG-58
diameter) as jumpers to the rigs - no more than 3' in length.

Ted,

Over on the yahoo Marconi group a thread on the fly back was hashed about.
It was told that some less in demand models of test gear use the same parts.
You might want to hop over there and see if the part can be crossed over.

[Repeater-Builder] Wanted 2 Meter Preamp

2009-01-29 Thread Scott Avery
Hello All,

Thanks for all of you that replied to my original email.
I already know what I need, and what I need to do. Thanks.
However nobody addressed the subject of WANTED.
So, here it is again

WANTED... In Need of to install

I am a looking for a preamp to go on the WR6ABD 2 meter repeater
on Mt. Loma Prieta in San Jose.
The club does not have a lot of money these days, and membership dropping fast!
We are currently running a GE Master II with .5uv sensitivity into split
antennas
spaced vertically about 50' with 1 pass bottle on TX and one on RX. One duplexer
on 2 meters is broken internally, and buried in the cabinet. A full day just to
get out and back in.
Not to mention repairing the solder joints.

I am looking for a suitable preamp with low noise for the receiver.
Something like an Angle, ARR, VHF Engineering etc.
I will be going up to Loma Prieta this next weekend Jan. 31 to do some other
work.
It would be great if I had one in hand to install.
If I can find one in the Monterey/SF Bay area that would be awsome, and could
pick up.

Please email me directly wa6...@msn.com or call me at 831-901-0050 if you have
what the LPRC needs.

Thanks and 73...

Scott,

Would you be interested in a brand new unopened ARR P150VDG preamp? Unscrew the
cover to tune it to
your freq and you're all set. This GaAsFET preamp has the lowest noise factor
in ARR's line. They're
$120 new but I'd let this spare one go for $80 including shipping. Reply to me

[Repeater-Builder] wanted: N-female flange mount crimp connectors

2008-09-11 Thread kk2ed
I'm working on a few projects and need a number of N female flange
mount style connectors, crimp style for RG58/142/400u cable. Similar
to those found on the side of MSF5000 cabinets. Amphenol part # 082-
5372. Anyone have any?

Have any of you folks recently needed to refresh your shop stock of
connectors? I mean quality connectors like Amphenol? Make sure you
are sitting down! I recently needed to order some N Male connectors
for RG214, and what I used to pay $4-5 for is now $10+, even
wholesale! DAMN!!! I should have invested in connectors rather than
the market!

In Dayton this year I hit every used vendor and bought all the
new/unused UG21 N males I could find, and wish I could have found
more. Seems like I never have enough of them.

Anyway, I'm also looking for Amphenol UG21 (aka 82-202) N males as
well.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] wanted: N-female flange mount crimp connectors

2008-09-11 Thread Bob M.
Be careful. The crimp ferrule for double-shielded coax (RG142/400) is thinner
than what it would be for single-shielded coax (RG58) to allow more braid to
fit under it, yet still use the same crimping tool. Many vendors don't know the
difference, and you'll have a heck of a time pushing/forcing the ferrule down
over two layers of braid. The proper connectors are a snug fit but can be
pushed down with strong fingers.

Same thing goes for full-size connectors. RG213 (single-shield) vs RG214
(double-shield) ferrules are quite different. The inside diameter is over 20
thousandths smaller on the 213 connectors and it will not fit over two layers.
Been there, done that.

Any problem with buying RF Connectors from places like hdcom?

Thank you all for the advice. However, I have had no success with
using XP (or finding a DOS startup option..are you sure you're not
confusing XP with WIn98SE?). Maybe you have a dual boot setup?

Remember I need to use Moto RSS for the MT-1000 and Spectra. The only
machine I have had luck with is a P1 processor at 166 mhz running
WIn98SE. I've tried faster laptops and desktops...P2s and P3's with
both XP and WIn98 with no luck at all. (Win98 is always started in
DOS mode, never a DOS window).

Thank you again for all the replies...I appreciate it.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Wanted to buy: Panasonic CF-25 laptop or equivalent for radio programmming

2008-06-13 Thread Doug Bade
There is no DOS startup internal to XP, however you can make a DOS
boot floppy from the Format A: floppy screen. The trick is you need
to partition the hard drive into 2 partitions 1 fat32 and pretty much
needs to be less than 1024 mb and the rest as NTFS for XP to
use...Copy all the DOS programs to the fat32 partition, and when you
boot from floppy with the boot disk you created in XP foramtting tab,
the DOS fat32 partition will be visible as C : to the floppy command
and interpretter... go to C:xx as you would normally and it will run fine

The only way to have DOS startup from XP is to have a DOS disk
overlaid with XP in fat32 mode.. not NTFS, and that is far from a
stock install...

The entire process I listed above can be done on a new XP install by
short installing the hard drive by 1 meg or so, and reserve that to
convert to a fat 32 partition later...then let XP install the rest of
the drive as it normally would.. after that you can go into disk
manger and format the remaining extra disk space as fat32 and put
whatever DOS stuff you want on it then a boot floppy will get you to it...

It sounds a lot more complicated than it is...

I meant short installing by 1gb... 1024 mb... sorryor whatever
you can spare from the XP drive for DOS programs and that depends on
how many you have.. or wish to collect :-)
Doug

At 03:31 PM 6/13/2008, you wrote:

I would think a disk manager with dual boot dos /xp or what ever as required
but you may need to set the bios correctly for the slow comms on the ports used
which is what I do here for programming things in my area of expertise although
I just boot to dos from xp ( which is almost a simulation) and run things there
.

Does it NEED to be a toughbook? I got nice results with DOS programs and

In Windows XP and before when one selects START one will get the window for
shutting down. One selection is to restart in DOS. Also one can find a DOS
prompt usually in the START program section.

I am assuming you want to get the full old screen level and not the Windows
window with DOS prompt.

Once you get into DOS and then are finished simply enter exit at the DOS
prompt (C) and you will return to Windows unless you came up in DOS.

Many computers seem to have a way of forcing one into Windows aside from the
autoexec and other start ups.

I still use a PC with DOS...it is my parts programmer. Turn on, comes up in
DOS and loads the programmer. Never goes to Windows. I used a few times
today. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Re: [Repeater-Builder] Wanted, 2 N-male to N-Female jumbers

2008-05-22 Thread Wayne

I very often can find heliax jumpers with N connectors on Ebay. Some with
M-M and some M-F.
Looked last night and a number of 5 foot cables readily available.
  Also, one can try:
http://www.surpluscoax.com/index.html for good deals on heliax and
connectors.
Not that hard to make jumpers. Just buy the amounts of cable you
need/want over all, plus connectors, and assemble your own.
Note that UHF connectors (PL259, etc.) are usually higher in cost that
the N connectors for the same cable sizes.
there are other sellers of Heliax at good prices. Yet some selling at
list or near list for what is now considered obsolete.
Note that HRO sells the 7/8 Andrew Heliax like I bought for %4585 per
100 feet.
I paid either $2.45 or $2.55 per foot, and very reasonable shipping, plus
I bought connectors made for the cable at reasonable prices.
1/2 heliax available at $1.45 - $1.55 per foot, the latter being the
superflex, easier to work with for jumpers.
With a bit of searching, one can often find jumpers or materials to make
same.
  YMMV

http://cgi.ebay.com/MOTOROLA-MICOR-REPEATER-117-VAC-POWER-SUPPLY_W0QQitemZ200209525287QQihZ010QQcategoryZ66977QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The bid is at $44 w/0 bids with reasonable shipping. Buy now $111 which is
little high although compared to an Astron it is worth it. I do like Astron
supplies.

Get the TS64DS which has the dip switch. Cost couple $ more, but worth it.

AES also carries them.
