I've finally gotten around to rewrite apt-rpm from caixa's branch to
the native rpm5 api now, so for anyone who's interested, it can be
found at:

For testing, I must admit I haven't had the time, so I leave it up to
anyone with the interest. ;)
rpm = 5.3 required
FYI: I just pushed a fix for unsatisfied rpmlib() dependencies,
there's some similark, but less frequent ones for interpreters etc.
as well which I'll have to resolve some time later...
