Well, since I started "this line of thinking" I guess it will end here. 
Ed L. suggested a loop with both curved and straight turnouts to demonstarte 
the compatibility issue. Sorry, that's only one test--turnouts also have to 
deal with cars being backed through them, both directions--long cars and short 
cars, talgo mounted couplers and body mounted couplers. 
Tom, if you have managed this, hats off to you, I was mearly expressing my 
opinion based on the lack of standards for all the different high rail and "toy 
train" wheel flanges, tread width and gauging.  There are so many parameters!!
My statement was not meant to be directed towards any person nor 
manufacturer!!! 
I hope this clears things up a litle.
