  Assuming that's true, how would I change things to get this
problem to go away? Add some kind of group mapping or something? How
does one go about doing that?
  I may try verifying that 3.0.23 introduced this issue by rolling
back samba to its previous version (whatever it was). We'll see.

  ALSO

  My Windows XP client also dual-boots into Fedora 7 as well, and
from Fedora 7 on the workstation I can access the samba shares:

  But for some strange reason, the same machine in Windows cannot
see the www machine at all.
  My question is now: What reason would there be for the client to
be able to connect to samba from Linux but not from Windows?
  I am going to hook up wireshark and watch what's going on at the
network level when I get a free moment. In the meantime, any suggestions
whatsoever are welcome.

[Samba] Failed to create Users problem.

2007-07-31 Thread Daryl

Hi everybody,

  I have been struggling to get my Windows XP box to be able to
access my samba server. When samba starts, I see the following my my
/var/log/samba/log.smb file:

 smbd version 3.0.25b-2.fc7 started.

  Through various Google searches, I have found that when people
say they get this error, it means samba will not work at all. Though
samba does stay running:

  When I try to access \\www in Explorer from my XP box, I get an
alert that says, Windows cannot find '\\www'. Check the spelling and
try again, [etc...] (same when I try by IP). When I access smb:/ and
navigate through the tree in Konqueror on the samba server itself,
everything works fine. I can ping back-and-forth between the two
machines by name and IP just fine.

  My passwords seem in order:

# pdbedit -L
daryl:500:Daryl Beattie
tv:522:Television

  My workgroup is named home on both client and server, my
hostname matches my netbios name (as defined in smb.conf, it is
www)... The only thing slightly abnormal that I have is that my /files
share has a different group than its owner --but I've fiddled with the
group permissions (i.e. setting them back to same owner/group) and that
doesn't seem to help.

  Here is my testparm output:

  This problem has been driving me nuts for a while, because
everything /used to/ work fine with an almost identical setup on my old
Fedora Core 5 machine (same filesystem directories, same users, etc;
they were moved from one machine to the other). But looking at the logs
on that machine, I never had a Failed to create Users error message.

  I'd greatly appreciate any help anybody could give me.

[Samba] Unable to Access Samba Server from 64 bit Windows

2007-01-19 Thread Daryl Ashley

Hello,

We currently have Samba running on a Solaris server, several Linux
servers, and a Mac OSX server. The version of Samba running on the
Solaris server is 2.2.8a, and the version of Samba on all the rest of
the servers is 3.x.

All of our Windows computers, including those running 64 bit versions of
Windows and Windows 2003 Server can access the Samba 2.2.8a server
without any problems.

All 32-bit Windows XP systems are able to access the 3.x Samba servers
without any problems. However, a 64-bit Windows workstation, and
several workstations running Windows 2003 server cannot access any of
the 3.x Samba servers.
I've googled and compared the configuration files on all the machines
without any luck.

We are going to the Start menu, click on Run..., and then enter
\\fileserver, and get the following error message:

\\fileserver is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find
out if you have access permissions. The request is not supported.

Does anybody know what might be causing this problem?

Thanks,

Daryl

[Samba] Samba File Problem

2006-08-29 Thread Daryl Duncan
Hi,

I am experiencing difficulty with a Program that resides on my Linux Server
and is accessed from Win XP stations.

The program is a tutoring program that uses flash files (swf) on the server
that are displayed on the clients.

When doing an update recently I got several strange errors that the software
vendor recons are Linux Specific.

When copying my new swf files onto the server I get the following errors:

application error (Value must be between 1 and 2147483647)

Exception class: EInvalidOperation

Exception address: 004F123E

Are there any values that should be changed when using these types of files?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Daryl

[Samba] smbmount limitations

2006-08-25 Thread Daryl Ashley

Hello,

I am trying to use smbmount to mount a Samba share that is larger than 2
TB. However, the amount of disk space that is displayed from the df
-k command for the mounted share is only 2 TB, and when I try to access
the share, my terminal session hangs. Is there a limitation on the size
of the share that can be mounted?

we have a samba pdc that is working well. we added a second

to access the file server from a windows client we get the following
error message on the windows client:
incorrect password or username unknown

and on the samba server, in the client-host's log:

the smb.conf file looks like this:

  encrypt passwords = yes
  guest account = nobody
  local master = no
  domain master = no
  preferred master = no
  workgroup = CAI
  hosts allow = 192.168.100.
i am unable to find how to setup a trust relationship between
these 2 samba servers. is this possible, or do i have to use a
local smbpasswd file? your help is appreciated...
thanks,

[Samba] installing samba printer on windows xp

2003-08-04 Thread daryl
hello everyone. i am running into an issue where xp pro clients
must have local admin rights to be able to install a samba printer.
the actual error message is:
A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from
connecting to this print queue. Please contact your System Administrator.
well, i am the system administrator and am not sure where to go next.
i am able to install the printer if i have local admin privileges on the
windows xp host, but this wont scale very well. i have created a
print package using mkprintpkg.pl and the instructions at:
http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html
but still have the same problem.
maybe i've missed some documentation? or someone can help explain
where/if i've gone wrong. the linux box can print fine to the printer
and my smb.conf looks like this:
[printers]
 comment = CompassAI Printers
 path = /var/spool/lpd/samba
 browseable = no
 public = yes
 guest ok = yes
 read only = yes
 printable = yes
 printer admin = root, jon
[print$]
 comment = Print Drivers
 path = /etc/samba/drivers
 browseable = yes
 guest ok = no

you help is greatly appreciated.

re: smbfs missing files

2002-11-21 Thread Daryl Boyd

I'm having a similar problem with 2.2.6 and Windows XP.
I opened ticket 25972.

Details Summary, see the ticket for complete info:
I have a directory with 166 files. If I run a ls | tee ~/t.1 | wc a couple
of times I get different number of files. I extracted the files that where
missing and compared them to tcpdump traces I have and they all seem to be
the last entry in a packet of the listing that tcpdump has trouble displaying.
I get:

(DF) (ttl 64, id 6633, len 128)
11:45:45.293225 bailey.firefly.ca.netbios-ssn  tigger.firefly.ca.45704:

WARNING: Short packet. Try increasing the snap length (1456)

I have the snap length set to 0 which should capture the whole frame. I
can provide the complete traces and well as ANY other info required to fix
this. I also have another complete setup experiencing similar problems.

I'm quite techinical, but haven't had time to crack the lid on the samba
code, and don't know if I can afford the time right now.

I haven't tried the patch listed below yet. What is bug number, or description
of the known issue holding it back from release?

Thanks for your help,
Daryl

There is a known problem with win2k listings. It doesn't like us using the
continue bit at all. You should be able to trigger this with smbclient
too.

Try this patch for 2.4.19
http://www.hojdpunkten.ac.se/054/samba/smbfs-2.4.19-rc1-ALL.patch.gz

It changes smbfs to use the same method as win2k does when listing files
on another win2k machine (there is a lot of other stuff in there too,
including 2G files and unicode).

Note that there is a known report of this breaking listings vs NT4, which
is why the change hasn't been made in the official kernel yet.

I have been meaning to compare what win2k sends to and NT4 when listing
and see if it does anything differently from win2k-win2k. I guess it
could be a NT4/non-unicode-client issue.

[Samba] Missing Files in listing from Windows XP share

2002-11-15 Thread Daryl Boyd
I have an odd problem with a smb mounted directory to a Windows XP machine.
If I mount a filesystem from the XP machine on my linux box and
repeatedly do a ls -l or a find ./ -print sometimes
some files are missing from the listing.
I tried this with both 2.2.3a and 2.2.6. I'm Using WindowsXP and RedHat 7.3.

Details:

in /etc/fstab
...
//firefly/photos   /win/photos   smbfs
debug=10,username=user,password=password   13

output from test:
% cd /win/photos/test directory
% ls | wc
156  1562654
% ls | wc
155  1562654
% ls | wc
158  1562654
% ls | wc
156  1562654
If I pipe the output to a file (for each run) and then diff them, I see
a few files consistently come and go. These are all jpg files and
windows is NOT accessing them, or doing anything in the directory at the
time.
eg:
% ls | grep 3009
230-3009_IMG.JPG
% ls | grep 3009
230-3009_IMG.JPG
% ls | grep 3009
230-3009_IMG.JPG
% ls | grep 3009
230-3009_IMG.JPG
% ls | grep 3009
% ls | grep 3009
% ls | grep 3009
% ls | grep 3009
230-3009_IMG.JPG
% ls | grep 3009
230-3009_IMG.JPG

I can also do a find ./ -print and see the same inconsistencies.

I'd really appreciate some held trying to fix this... Its really causing
me grief! I've tried to enable debugging so I can see the data going
between the two machines when I do the ls, but I can only get smbmount
to dump debug info when connecting, not when doing transactions. Any
idea how do get more detail?
If anyone needs more info, I'd be glad to provide it

Thanks,
Daryl
