[Samba] Windows clients reboot when opening document on the Samba server

2004-10-11 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

I'm using a Samba 3.0.7 as PDC and files server. Everything works fine
except for several windows stations. Sometimes those stations reboot
automaticaly when a winword document (find on the file server) is
opened. There is no problem if the document is on the local disk.

I've already disabled oplocks but without success.

This problem occurs only with read-write file. If the unix permissions
are set to read-only the is no problem.

Thank you,

Kind regards,

Raphael

[Samba] LDAP access problem

2003-12-09 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

My Samba-3.0.0 is configured as PDC. I've joined a W2k wks on this domain and
everything works perfectly.
However, when I try to add ACL on a file or directory located on the server, the
display of the 1700 users and 570 groups take a while (20-30 sec), the slapd process
use about 90% of CPU.

In the slapd.conf

index uid pres,sub,eq
index displayName pres,sub,eq
index sambaSID eq
index sambaPrimaryGroupSID eq
index memberUid eq
index sambaDomainName eq
index default sub

I've already made tests with different values on the dbcachesize and cachesize
parameter but without improvement.

in the log file for the W2k workstation :

[2003/12/09 17:45:22, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:ldapsam_search_one_group(1597)

Is those entries normal ? And how to improve the response time of the LDAP server ?

[Samba] Strange ACL entry

2003-12-09 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

I've added ACL entry from W2k on a Directory located on Samba-3.0.0 server. Everything
seems to be Ok. But when I check directly on the Linux server with getfacl Directory
I see :

# file: Directory
# owner: Administrator
# group: Domain Users
user::rwx
group::r-x
group:2147481760:rwx
group:2147482762:r--
mask::rwx
other::r-x
default:user::rwx
default:group::---
default:group:2147482762:r--
default:mask::rwx
default:other::---

Which be the reason of those strange GID ?

[Samba] wbinfo -c duplicate entry

2003-12-01 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

With wbinfo -c user, a entry is created in winbind_idmap.tdb. But if I
retype the same command with same username a second entry (with a
different uid) is created in tdb file.

Is behavior normal ?

[Samba] How to migrate a complex NT4 network

2003-11-27 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

We have on a central site a NT4 PDC and a NT4 BDC and on 6 secondary
sites we have a BDC on each site (the authentication for the
workstations on those remotes sites occurs on the local BDC and not on
PDC).

Which could be the best way to migrate this environment to a
SAMBA-3.0.0/LDAP environment. But we cannot intervene on each 1600
workstations. Then the migration has to be the most transparently as
possible for the users.

Thank you for ideas !

See you,

Raphaël

Your configuration is typical of many. The samba-3 migration facility (net
rpc vampire) should work fine. You should be able to run it against the
local BDC - though I have not tested that.

Indeed the SAM migration is very simple with vampire. But Samba cannot
made realtime synchronization with a NT4 PDC and how to manage the
modifications. Made a vampire each time a modification has been done on
the PDC is a little bit tricky (with 1600 users, 500 groups and 1700
machines).

If you need help just ask. I am writing a follow up book to the
Samba-HOWTO-Collection (The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide)
called Samba-3 by Example and will have a chapter in there that will
provide detailed presecriptive guidance on the migration process.

If you like we could use your migration opportunity as the basis for the
 case study in the book.

We have documented the fact that Samba-3 can not be a BDC to an NT4 PDC.
Sorry. If yu want to use Samba as a BDC then your PDC must be Samba also.

I know it's well documented but if I migrate my NT4 PDC to a samba PDC,
I still have some NT4 BDC's and then there is always a synchronization
problem :)

Then the only ways to do that are :

First way : Manage a new samba domain and migrate manualy each
workstation

Second way : Migrate the NT4 PDC to Samba and stop all NT4 BDC's (all
the authentications and profiles managment will be done on the PDC). And
migrate the BDC one by one. (Physicaly It's not possible on the same
time to migrate the PDC and all the BDC's)

[Samba] Several privileged users

2003-09-30 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

I have to setup a samba-3 configuration where several users have the
right to join a machine in the domain.

I've done a test with username map between root and a user but this
solution is not acceptable because the user is considered as root even
for a normal login (the user's informations (sambaProfile,...) are not
used)

Is this a workaround ?

Thank you,

[Samba] Idmap_ldap strange issue

2003-07-01 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

In my smb.conf I've the following IDMAP setup :

passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1
idmap backend = ldap:ldap://127.0.0.1
idmap uid = 2000-1
idmap gid = 2000-4000
ldap admin dn = cn=admin,o=xxx,c=be
ldap suffix = o=xxx,c=be
ldap machine suffix = ou=Computers
ldap user suffix = ou=Users
ldap idmap suffix = ou=Idmap
ldap ssl = no

The idmap mapping (sid uid/gid) is correctly save in the directory under
ou=idmap,o=xxx,c=be. but also in the winbindd_idmap.tdb file. I've done
a test by deleting this file. After that if I launch pdbedit -L, samba
rebuild the all idmap mapping in winbindd_idmap.tdb but also in the LDAP
directory. Then in LDAP, there is for each group and user 2
idmap entries !! Strange !!

Any suggestion ?

See you,

Raphaël

Very strange !

[Samba] Re: What's happend when the UID/SID mapping changes for acomputer account ?

2003-06-27 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

I'm using one of the last CVS before (about one weeks before)the
official release of beta1.

In my LDAP directory I've configured a sambaUnixIdPool objectClass. At
the beginning the uidNumber was 3000(I've decided to set up it to this
value), but now in 3 weeks the value of this entry is 13699. Strange !
And I don't think that idmap.tdb has been delete to be regenerated ! The
only things we do : it's a net rpc vampire to resynchronized the SAM
with ou NT4 PDC !

Thank you,

In my previous mail, I explain that suddenly every computers of my

Before this problem, a 'net rpc vampire' was done to resynchronize the
samba ldap-sam with the NT4 PDC, and samba has been restarted, I suspect
that after this operation the UID/SID idmap mapping has been changed !

Which version of Samba? The previous beta did not change the SID-UID
mapping, the current version does. More likely to cause problems with
machine logins is a change to the SID.

The 'net' command should allow you to suck in the SID from the NT PDC,
if for some reason it has been lost.

[Samba] idmap mapping questions

2003-06-12 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi,

I've setup a samba 3 server. The mapping between SID and uid is done by
idmap. When a user create a file on the server, the owner of this file
cannot be resolved by Linux (the uid cannot be resolved to the human
name). Then in smb.conf list (for example : printer admin) I've to setup
the uid of a user and not his real name otherwise the user is considered
as unknown !

How to deal with the access permission to the files and directories if
the mapping (SID - uid) change or if the idmap.tdb is corrupted ?

Thank you for your help.

[Samba] Group mapping

2003-05-27 Thread Raphaël Berghmans
Hi everybody,

Since two days I'm trying to migrate a whole NT4 PDC to Samba-3 with the
net rpc vampire.

Each user and computer accounts are correctly added in LDAP directory.
But for every account this message appears during the migration :

Primary group of has no mapping!

An other problem is that none of the 558 groups is added in LDAP
directory. Then, in my smb.conf I've added a add group script using
the smbldap-tool. This tool adds for every group a posix entry in LDAP.

But what about the Group mapping ? Howto add it automaticaly in LDAP
during the vampire ?

And last but not least when vampire has to add the member for each
group I get this error :

utils/net_rpc_samsync.c:fetch_group_mem_info(558)
Could not find global group xyz

My configuration is :

NT4 PDC with 1700 user accounts, 1500 computer accounts and 558 groups

Could you please help me ? An explanation about group mapping is
welcome!
