[Samba] SBS Backup User

2007-01-25 Thread Vernon A. Fort
Have a samba 3.0.22 joined ADS to a SBS windows 2003 R2. I am trying to
get the SBS Backup to use a samba share.

Username TPMMLAW\SBS Backup User is invalid on this system

TPMMLAW is the domain. How would I map the SBS Backup User to a valid
unix account. Any pointers?

[Samba] mount.cifs problems

2004-06-06 Thread Vernon A. Fort
samba-3.0.3-5 on fedora core 2. I have successfully joined the domain
and can access samba shares from windows clients/server.

I can connect to windows 2003 shares using smbclient but I cannot mount
windows shares on using either smbmount or mount.cifs
Using smbmount, I always get cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and
we have disabled it - I do have the following:

  client use spnego = yes
  client signing = yes
  server signing = yes
Using mount.cifs - all I get is mount error 13 = Permission denied and
dmesg returns

CIFS VFS: Send error in SessSetup = -13
CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -13
Can someone point me in the right direction?!?

RE: [Samba] Backups of local shares

2003-03-10 Thread Vernon A. Fort
Let me put this another way - how confident can one be if you are backing up
open or lock file (listed in the smbstatus -L). How does samba handle the
relationship between the open file and the actual stored file? Have I
missed the documentation on this - I can't seem to find anything.

Are there any other samba related tools to assist with automated backups?

BRU and BRU-Pro are supposed to be able to do this.

RE: [Samba] how to create smbpasswd file

2002-12-30 Thread Vernon A. Fort
Just running the smbpasswd -a {userid} will create the smbpasswd file if it
does NOT exist. It places the file where the smb.conf file is located,
normally. If one exist, it just appends the new user to the file.

[Samba] File Replication Question

2002-12-27 Thread Vernon A. Fort
I have a user that works in two separate locations, a PC at each location (2
days at one and 3 at the other). We have a VPN connecting both sites and
currently we map the drive with samba, via the VPN link when off-site. This
has been difficult because most of the time, the VPN link is slow and some
of his files are quite large. I was thinking of putting a samba server at
the remote site and synchronizing the directory structure when he's
traveling between the two sites.

I was thinking of using rsync to accomplish this but is this my only option.
I do believe rsync will work well but I'm curious if there is any other
method like DFS.

Any thoughts

Vernon.
