CS[List Owner] Comment...

2004-10-18 Thread M. G. Devour
Greetings my Silvery friends, and newcomers as well!

The list has been a bit quieter than average lately and is starting to
pick back up the last couple of days. In the interest of helping the
newcomers get acquainted with things, and as a reminder for our
regulars...

Now is a good time to remember the rules of what's on vs. off topic and
how much OT stuff is too much.

Anybody can ask any reasonable health oriented question, and anyone may
answer with any information that they feel might be helpful, even if it
does not relate directly to Colloidal Silver.

I only ask that non-CS discussions be kept brief, sufficient to
introduce concepts and satisfy people's basic curiosity, and to point
out important resources so they can delve further on their own. After
that point, discussion should migrate to the Silver Off Topic List,
other forums, or private e-mail.

Some small amount of general friendly chatter and off-topic stuff is
permissible, especially when things are quiet, for the entirely
worthwhile purpose of making the place more welcoming and human. I only
ask that you tone it down the more the traffic starts to pick up. Self-
regulation is the ideal, here.

Lastly, a few things are generally prohibited. They include:

Commercial self-promotion and/or competition. A number of vendors
participate here as private individuals. Those that have proven able to
behave well have a fair degree of freedom. All others must contact me
for approveal before posting anything that can be seen as commercial in
nature. The creative use of signature lines is okay, unless I tell you
otherwise! grin

Politics is prohibited, except for the occasional one-post heads-up
about major issues directly related to alternative health in general,
or anything having direct impact on CS and closely related subjects. In
general, most such discussions should be carried out on the OT list or
elsewhere.

Religion, spirituality, and most forms of paranormal esoterica are also
prohibited as subject matter. I don't demand everybody completely de-
God what they have to say, but that overt evangelism or blatant
discussions of things that are likely to offend others simply be
avoided. The occasional prayer request or God Bless as a greeting or
in passing is certainly fine.

Tolerance, generosity, and sensitivity are key to a successful mailing
list. This community generally handles itself very well. You've helped
many people, and saved some lives. I respect that, folks, deeply. Thank
you for being here.

Peace,

Mike Devour

The reason for my original post was to encourage you all to keep the
more speculative stuff short, or move it to the OT list.

The fact is, I'm not so many years removed from my pre-awakened state
that I've forgotten how *I* would have reacted to chemtrails, pyramids,
orgone or the persecution of Tesla, if early on I had stumbled into a
forum like this looking for information about colloidal silver.

When deciding about topics I always visualize somebody arriving,
relatively new to the net, a bit nervous about this alternative
medicine stuff, and ultimately skeptical about anything that's not been
blessed by coverage on the evening news.

Do we want to help them or scare them away?

What we have here is a balancing act. I don't want to stop everybody
from enjoying the discussion, but for the sake of the mission we have
to be sure that the crazy sounding stuff stays to a small-ish
fraction of the content. That way folks will see that there *is*
worthwhile information to be found here despite the handful of
crackpots and lunatics who believe in all that other junk...

In time, of course, they'll begin to realize that we're practically
*all* crackpots and loonies by those standards -- and hopefully they'll
balance that against the solid things they've learned about CS and
maybe, just maybe, start to re-examine their assumptions about what
they think is real.

As I see it, CS is an easy first step on the road to waking up. It
works, it's easy and cheap (or should be anyway), and it can be
explained in pretty conventional scientific terms. It'll *also* get
them rubbing elbows with all of us kooks who've decided to stop
believing everything our doctors say and taken personal responsibility
for our health.

Can you imagine a better way to get through to people?

Let me reassure you, Bill, that I include myself firmly in the ranks of
that same lunatic fringe whenever I make such a comment. Like so many
of you here, I've come a *long* way in what I will admit to the realm
of possibility, since coming aboard the internet a dozen or so years
ago. Thus, even if I poke a little fun at us, it's with respect and
fondness.

Peace.

Be well,

nonsense, he didn't characterize anyone as loonies. he wants to avoid
others thinking that.

Mike doesn't want *good health seekers* to come here and find much more
about off subject topics that have nothing to do, even remotely, with

this is why Mike created the offtopic list.

LOL!!!

I think this thread illustrates aptly just how *impossible* it is to
communicate succinctly in an all-text medium such as this!

Was I casting aspersions on all of our alternative thinkers?

Was Bill's post *really* tongue-in-cheek?

Am I insulted by his OT Loony Bin remark?

dum dum dum... (Organ music, with lots of tremolo!)

The reason for my original post was to encourage you all to keep the
more speculative stuff short, or move it to the OT list.

CS[List Owner] Comment...

2004-06-08 Thread M. G. Devour
Hi folks!

Just a teensy reminder: We don't want the new folks thinking we're all
loonies, so let's be sure any discussion of Chemtrails or anything
further on Orgone devices or Tesla make it over to the Off Topic List,
please. (Links at bottom of every message from the list...)

*I* know there's more to that stuff than one's knee jerk reaction would
allow, but I'd rather not ask new folks coming here for the wit and
wisdom of CS experts to have to grapple with the *belief* factor on all
the rest of it!

Thank you, my friends.

Be well,

Mike D.

Dear Omnipotent One:

I think you could have phrased that better. Those who believe Tesla was
screwed over and those who believe in chemtrails have now been relegated to
the OT looney bin?

Yours for accuracy in urinalism,

Illicit Bill Missett
