RE: grain tickling in render

2018-02-06 Thread Sven Constable
Assuming you're rendering with mental ray.

Open up the render tree. Double click the image node of that texture and turn
on 'Elliptical Filtering".

i think the 'grain' on the object surface everywhere is sparkling

can you show me a good way to reduce such noise in softimage ?

Everything retro: Armaggeddon (1997-Movie) - CGI

2018-02-06 Thread Pierre Schiller
Hi, thanks for reading this one. I was cruising the other day on the
Armaggeddon making of on youtube and I wonder if anyone in the list had
worked on that movie? Now that NDA probably is over, I think there could be
no problem if we share a little flashback on CGI with "everything retro";
probably citing technical challenges / solutions to that day.

Sohas anyone been involved in that movie?
Thanks.

grain tickling in render

2018-02-06 Thread Nicole Beeckmans-Jacqmain
hi.

surely must be a very newbie query for you:

after having working in 3d experimental way,
i am trying some photo-realism for a help for a director friend

in the pass, the metal texture once rendered (ray-tracing)
once played in avi (both compressed with microsoft video 1 codec &
uncompressed ) display a high variability of grain which
i wish would not be there

would you know what i may be mis-tweaking ??

would it be in reason of texture being wrongly stretched??

takk a lot!

Re: OTish - todays Maya rant and Q - selecting items

2018-02-06 Thread Morten Bartholdy
I had our Maya girl explain this to me today. I had a run in with Maya
selection modes previously when trying to select faces on a selected object,
which off course does not at all work like that in Maya.
For fucks sake the devs must have been retarded. Super clumsy and non intuitive
as usual. She always gives me a semi blank stare and a shrugging smile when I
point out why it is retarded and forces me to spend more time doing what I want
than required elsewhere...

Anyway, when I tick the chain select thingy off, I can select my geo the way I
want without the chain priority trying to think for me... - thing is I know
what I want to select and still have the dexterity required to aim my pen and
thus the cursor so as to click on the right pixels.
