Re: [storage-discuss] Making zfs storage HA clustered
From: Roman Naumenko ro...@frontline.ca Is there are any way to build HA storage using common components like JBOD enclosures, lsi hba, cheap sata drivers? Yes. http://www.sun.com/storage/disk_systems/unified_storag e/index.jsp Yes, that the right option when going cheap :) -- Roman -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ storage-discuss mailing list storage-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
Re: [storage-discuss] Making zfs storage HA clustered
[Added ha-clusters-discuss] Have you looked at what Open HA Cluster(OHAC) provides? http://opensolaris.org/os/community/ha-clusters/ There is a HA-ZFS agent for OHAC and more recently support for shared-nothing storage with COMSTAR. Augustus. I can't find this. Is there any documentation or implementation process described? Or it's just a development version? -- Roman -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ storage-discuss mailing list storage-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss

HA-ZFS configuration http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4682/gbspx?a=view Sharing Nothing Configuration Details http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7821/gilon?l=dea=view http://blogs.sun.com/augustus/entry/shared_nothing_storage_in_open You can also trying these using a virtual box setup on a laptop, before using it on real servers. Here are the instructions for running OHAC with Virtual Box. http://blogs.sun.com/TF/entry/running_open_ha_cluster_with You would find more experts on these at the ha-clusters community. Augustus, thank you for the information. Ok, so it is called Shared Nothing Storage to make storage server HA. And it should be build with MPxIO, as I've learned from your blog. The shared-nothing storage configuration in OHAC does not require any special disks or even SCSI disks. It will work with any disk that can be made a backing store for a COMSTAR based iSCSI target, so sata is fine. If you actually want support for your configuration from Sun, then there are a set of hardware choices to choose from. Like Joel mentioned, the Sun Unified storage boxes are also good choices. Re: [storage-discuss] Making zfs storage HA clustered
BTW, there are two commercial plugins for NexentaStor as well which will solve HA problem nicely in my opinion: http://www.nexenta.com/corp/index.php?option=com_jreviewstask=listcategorysection=20cat=53dir=1Itemid=112 1. Simple-Failover plugin - active / passive manual failover 2. HA Cluster plugin - industry proven RSF-1 cluster solution packaged as NexentaStor plugin + integration. Both works with ZFS / COMSTAR / services / etc. Make sense to take a look.
