Re: Meridian line in Brussels

2018-06-30 Thread Willy Leenders
I answered Dan-George Uza with this message:

Hi Dan-George,

Hereby two articles from ZONNETIJDINGEN, the magazine of the Sundial
Association Flanderen (Belgium) in 1999 and 2001, and photos I found about the
meridian line in Brussels.

The appendix, however, only went to Dan-George Uza because it is 504 Kb and
that is more than the admitted 290 Kb.

Those who want to receive the attachment must ask me.

Hi Dan

Twice articles on the meridian line in Brussels appeared in 1999 and 2001, in
Dutch, one of the two official languages of Brussels, in the magazine of the
Sundial Association of Flanders.
I will scan them and translate them into English after being digitized with
character recognition.

But that will take me some time.

2018-06-30 Thread Roger
Hi Dan,
I cannot help you on the Brussels meridian but I enjoyed finding them in Italy,
specifically the 8 in Sicily . Here is a link to a paper that includes a table
of 74 in Italy. They became quite popular with the introduction of French
hours based on noon rather that Italian hours based on sunset. The meridians
were educational tools to show the importance of noon.

This paper by Giogio Mesturini was published in 2002

According to the report, "Retired mechanical engineer and Friends of Berkeley
Castle member Bob Hunt designed the sun dial according to the castle’s latitude
and longitude.” Maybe Kevin can track him down?

Hi all,
I wonder who designed it? They incorporated a gapped gnomon as seen on the
Spot-On sundials of Piers Nicholson (Piers, you should have patented the idea!)
but it looks as though they used the wrong delineation origins for the ‘back
hours’.

Hi all,

I wonder who designed it? They incorporated a gapped gnomon as seen on the

but it looks as though they used the wrong delineation origins for the ‘back
