2006-12-04 Thread Douglas Bateman
All may like to know that our 18th annual conference is to be held in
Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge, on 13, 14 and 15 April
2007.

Speakers include Dr Frank King, Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd, Professor Karl
Hofbauer, Kevin Karney and Fred Sawyer. There will be the usual
display of sundials, sundial projects, books, etc, and there will be a
choice of a coach trip to a local National Trust property which houses
the Trust’s largest collection of clocks, and has 4 fine sundials in
the gardens. The other choice is a short ride into Cambridge to visit
the Whipple Museum of the History of Science and go on guided walking
tours of some Cambridge dials.

I will be happy to answer any questions, and the booking form can be
found on our website www.sundialsoc.org.uk

Regards, Doug Bateman

x-tad-biggerReaders of the list may like to know that the British Sundial Society’s 17th annual conference is to be held in the Cathedral City of Durham, in the north of England, on the 21, 22, and 23 of April 2006. The programme is already complete with 10 lectures, a coach visit to see sundials, and an auction of sundial related material. The speakers include regulars such as Fred Sawyer and Allan Mills, a new member speaking about all the errors that can effect a sundial reading, Woody Sullivan from Seattle talking about sundials in “the northwest corner of the USA”, and the Andrew Somerville Memorial Lecture is to be on Anglo-Saxon sculpture by Emeritus Professor of Archaeology, Rosemary Cramp, University of Durham. There will be the usual large display of projects, dial work in progress, and photographic competition. We can already give an advance welcome for members coming from the USA, Norway, Germany and Cyprus.

If you are interested please e-mail me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit our website www.sundialsoc.org.uk for details and a copy of the booking form.
