Re: [pfSense Support] Wan-side problem...
Hello, just a little upgrade about my problem: I have been running my pfsense 0.84.6 for 1 day and 23 hours now without any problems... but my dyndns client is turned off... so there might be a connection??? regards.. Damien --- Damien Dupertuis [EMAIL PROTECTED] a écrit : Hello. I have the 0.84.6 (upgraded from 0.84)installed on an epia 800, using pppoe for the wan-side. Everything seemed to work perfectly, even the dyndns client... But, the second my pfsense timer hit the one day limit, problems started again...Internet was unattainable... to be more precise, the wan interface was down. Does connect from the interface screen do anything? How about on the WAN interface screen, clicking save again. nope... I tried both without any change... I tried to reboot, turn off then on again, reload config file, nothing worked...Finally, I turned the dyndns client off and rebooted and this brought me my internet connection back... any idea? Hmmm, what were you using prior to switching to pfSense on this connection? first I used my zyxel prestige 650r31 as a router. Then I used it thru my linksys wrt54g (pppoe) and then, finally with pfsense (pppoe). I'd be interested to know what worked. I'm surprised switching dyndns off fixed anything, was it hanging on boot? not at all!!! everything else was working!!! but I was unable to ping anything (thru the webgui/diagnostics) something I can do to help you??? I'm using a cheap nic for the wan side, based on a realtek 8139d chip is this my culprit part? While realtek cards suck, they shouldn't be doing this. Okay... because I already swapped it... The one I had before was running wery hot and I thought it was the culprit... but it seems I was wrong... Damien ___ Appel audio GRATUIT partout dans le monde avec le nouveau Yahoo! So if i buy this one: http://www.mini-box.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.19/it.A/id.386/.f i would be able to reduce the TX power to around 200mwatt? Thanks for your answers. But I dont undersand why is it impossible to mount 2 pppoe links on PFsense box ? Is it a technical limitation ? or just a function not implemented yet ? (Please do not post as HTML, just about every list on the planet doesn't like this practice) Its basically not implemented yet. You can do DHCP on optional interfaces but not PPPoE as of yet. This *MIGHT* be tackled in 1.1. More like 1.2. Re: [pfSense Support] Argg! My PfSense just died!
OK, I have read every post within this thread. Thing I don't understand is this.. All the people who had trouble mentioned it happen during an upgrade.. So, question is.. Any idea why my Pf died in the middle of running? I didn't do an upgrade, it was a system running on a fresh install of 0.84 days before. Also, besided the booting problem, I am wondering why it just stopped working which is what caused me to reboot it in the first place. Thanks for any insight on this.. RE: [pfSense Support] Output (mwatt) of a minipci wireless card
I do not see why to buy a 400mW card and reduce to half the power. Consider if you ran a hotspot in your coffee shop you wouldnt want the signal to be strong enough for the coffee shop down the street to be able to use your nice strong powerful signal Only enough power needed to cover your little area. Or better example if you were deploying several wireless APs to cover an area you may not want the strong signals from one to cause noise on another wireless AP. Yes, as Scott said you can reduce the TX (Transmission) power in the webgui, under interfaces when you assign a new one (says OPT1) you can tune the TX power from 0 to 99 %. As you probably already know this card reach 400mW at 6Mb of transmission (read spec ). I do not see why to buy a 400mW card and reduce to half the powerAnyway it works fine.
