RE: [pfSense Support] redial pppoe by cron
Concerning the proposed : In the webgui go to Diagnosticsedit file and load /etc/crontab Then add the following line: * reconnecthour * * * root killall mpd /usr/local/sbin/mpd -b -d /var/etc -p /var/run/mpd.pid pptp Then save that file. Reboot to make sure the new settings are reloaded. This is not officially supported and I have not yet tried that myself but got that information from Scott when I asked for that some time ago. I'm located in germany too and I'm affected by the ugly 24h-disconnects too. This way you can make sure the reconnect doesn't appear during officehours or during daytimes, what can be pretty annoying if you use VoIP or VPN. Please provide feedback if that works for you. Not sure if this will handle dyndnsupdates too (maybe Scott can comment in this). If you could test that too that would be great. Holger The disconnection just works just great (normal : this is a sledge hammer approach) - however, this will not re-connect by itself ! (Maybe I didn't wait long enough.) hi gertjan, * reconnecthour * * * root killall mpd /usr/local/sbin/mpd -b -d /var/etc -p /var/run/mpd.pid pptp The disconnection just works just great (normal : this is a sledge hammer approach) - however, this will not re-connect by itself ! (Maybe I didn't wait long enough.) did you see that holger starts a PPTP connection in his mail? if you need to redial pppoe, you should use this. (obviously) ;) if you have a ssh-session available to the router you should see the mpd with the full partameters in 'ps auxww | grep mpd' a interactive test on the shell worked verry well the first time, but the second forced reconnect after 2 minutes made me starting mpd again to start the pppoe connection. i'll check if this works well with cron. thanx holger! cheers, thomas - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [pfSense Support] redial pppoe by cron
mpd handles all ngX interfaces. these are pptp and pppoe as well. pptp is getting restarted by that as a sideeffect too thus the pptp in the command. If it needs traffic to bring up your tunnel you could try to add something like. ping some internet ip John -Original Message- From: Gertjan Kroeb [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2006 6:20 AM To: support@pfsense.com Subject: RE: [pfSense Support] redial pppoe by cron Concerning the proposed : In the webgui go to Diagnosticsedit file and load /etc/crontab Then add the following line: * reconnecthour * * * root killall mpd /usr/local/sbin/mpd -b -d /var/etc -p /var/run/mpd.pid pptp Then save that file. [pfSense Support] problem+howto clean install remotely
Hi. I have this problem, that the pfsense gateway at a point loses internet connection (wi). It starts with me not being able to ping anything outside, and windows saying that the gateway is unreachable. So I try pinging google and it says that the pfsense gateway is unreachable. I also can't reach the pfsense's webconfigurator, just the ssh. C:\Documents and Settings\rzrping www.google.com Pinging www.l.google.com [64.233.183.99] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from gateway ip: Destination host unreachable. Then i log on to the pfsense machine # ping www.google.com ping: cannot resolve www.google.com: Host name lookup failure # ping ip address PING ip address (ip address): 56 data bytes ping: sendto: No buffer space available After waiting a while, i can ping ip addresses, but hostnames don't get resolved. After this i tried many things, even reran rc.bootup. Only a reboot fixes it. This has been happening since version 0.90, now running beta1, I wonder if it's some hardware fault, still why no buffer space available? Also I have a question on how to do a clean install remotely, without direct access to the machine? Thank you, Endre
