DHCP server only supports the primary subnet, no way to do that without hacking the source. Ok. I guess you mean through webConfigurator. If I modify /var/dhcpd/etc/dhcpd.conf, could achieve my goal? May I write a script and hook it with services_dhcp.php to do this? I think you'd essentially have to overwrite dhcpd.conf every time config was regenerated from XML, since the current GUI management for DHCPd doesn't understand subnets. Feel free to rewrite the DHCP configuration GUI instead ;-). That's an ugly enough task that I just put DHCP on a separate server instead. (I spend about 20 minutes looking at the source and decided I didn't feel like re-designing it from the ground up, especially when so many other things make assumptions about the way DHCP works now.) [pfSense Support] DHCP Server with virtual IP (subnets)
Hi, I'm trying to include static IP's in DHCP server. LAN interface has IP 10.10.0.1/24 I added an IP alias for the interface with 10.10.1.1/24, so I include the MAC address of a host for 10.10.1.2 It doesn't like this. How could I do this? And, of course, I should especify the router address too (10.10.1.1, not the natural interfaces IP) Thank you. [pfSense Support] DHCP server settings
We recently lowered our DHCP lease time to the default of 2 hours. After a couple hours, I was checking the DHCP leases and see some that have a difference of 2 hours from the Start and End time. However, there are some that have a 24 hour difference. Is there a way to completely clear out the DHCP lease time and restart the DHCP server. These leases started almost 3 hours after I had modified the default lease time. Thanks Dwane
RE: [pfSense Support] DHCP server settings
If you had your DHCP lease times set to 24hrs, lowering them will take a minimum of 12hrs (0.5 * least time) to take effect, and many DHCP clients are slightly broken and will take a full (lease time) to renew. Not to mention any of the really broken clients who don’t honour changes to the DHCP lease as long as they keep getting DHCPACKs – it sounds like this might be what you’re experiencing. The only solution is – usually – to reboot the device. If you have Win95/98 clients, you may have to use regedit to make it forget its old lease. -Adam Thompson athom...@athompso.net From: Atkins, Dwane P [mailto:atki...@uthscsa.edu] Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 10:34 To: 'support@pfsense.com' Subject: [pfSense Support] DHCP server settings We recently lowered our DHCP lease time to the default of 2 hours. This might be related to other OLSR issues. We haven't had a DHCP server bug in years, so I can only assume that's likely the case. RE: [pfSense Support] DHCP Server Issues
Yes, when I disable OLSR the problem goes away because the subnet mask is no longer a dropdown when Enable OLSR is unchecked-- rather, it inherits the subnet mask from the interface that the server is bound to. In other words, when you enable OLSR, the subnet mask becomes a dropdown box (with 1-32 as options) and the setting does not stick, it always reverts to /32. Again, the only reason I even checked the box was to get a DHCP Server on the WAN (which doesn't appear to work anyway). So I guess there's a bug and a feature request both :) Any quick workarounds that I can use to get the WAN tab to show up (and DHCP to work) on the WAN side? I will submit the feature request shortly. The ticket is 1679. I don't know if I classified it correctly-- I don't know if you guys wanted to consider it a bug or a feature req, but really it's both. I wanted to point this out so one of the dev gods can look at it with this in mind and change it if necessary. RE: [pfSense Support] DHCP Server - Enable Static ARP entries
Hi Scott/List, I was actually the person who asked for this feature. I have been testing it lately because I am about to use it in a test lab (finally). What I have found is that ONLY the MAC addresses listed can communicate to the router. So if I have a PC that acquired an IP address from the DHCP server that is not a static IP reservation, it cannot communicate to the router. (The PC in question acquired the IP address BEFORE I turned on the static arp feature). The 'arp -da' after turning off the static arp feature does not fix the problem, only rebooting does. I am wondering if it is an 'ipfw' rule that does not get removed. I think it would be good to make this feature a bit more flexible. My thoughts are as follows Option 1. Only static DHCP entries can communicate to the router (the behavior presently shown). Option 2. Static ARP entries only for DHCP reservations while allowing other IP addresses (say those assigned from DHCP pool) to be useable. Some people might find Option 1 useful in a very controlled environment. Option 2 would be useful in a situation like this. My IT department controls a wireless lab where we trust and configure the laptops. We would assign static DHCP reservations to these laptops and setup WPA2 between the laptops and AP. In the firewall, we could give elevated privileges to these laptops, which say live in the 192.168.100.64/26 range with appropriate firewall rules applied to that network. The DHCP server would give out addresses in the 192.168.100.128/26 which would have a more restrictive firewall set applied to that network). The static arp mappings help assure that other people won't steal an IP address that has elevated privileges (192.168.100.64/26. Yes I am aware you can fake a MAC address). So I am proposing option 1 or 2 can be selected, each with different behavior. I am not sure how you implemented option 1, but option 2 would appear to only be a matter of using the 'arp' command to make static arp mappings or to delete them. What do you think? I am willing to help code option 2. -Original Message- From: Scott Ullrich [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, February 21, 2006 11:54 AM To: Wesley K. Sure, go to ServicesDHCP in the webgui. You'll notice a seperate tab for each internal interface you have (like your OPT1, it's labeled with the interface name). Switch to that tab and make your settings. DHCP-Server in pfSense is per Interface, so you can have different DHCP-settings for each of your interfaces. Hello, I love the abbility to add a static mapping to a mac adress in the dhcp server but I saw that the only way to actually make it works is by rebooting pfsense every time you add an adress... otherwise even if you ask for a new adress (client side), the dhcp dont gives you the static one you just configured... Maybe a future task for your already hudge to do list ? regards... Damien ___ Appel audio GRATUIT partout dans le monde avec le nouveau Yahoo!
