PayPal has acquired a bad reputation among many and from what I
understand for good reason.

Also, I don't know how I managed not to include Keith and Journey To
Forever in the mail. Chalk it down to lack of sleep and health
concerns at the moment.

I believe there are some two thousand odd members of the list which is
why I proposed a dollar a person but there are not two thousand people
posting. As in the rest of life some of us will apparently have to
carry the others but it is something to which we ought to be
accustomed. There have been many carrying me on and off for a long
time, Keith and Martin not the least among them. It is high time we
lived up to what I at least consider our responsibilities.

As there has been no response yet from Martin or Keith I am assuming
this is OK with them so anyone wanting to contribute to this very
worthy effort could just drop me an email at my own address and I
would respond with my mailing address. I will also keep a list with
the name, email and amount of each donor and give it to both Keith and
Martin so if anyone wants to check up on me they could email either
Keith or Martin and would know that their donation had been properly
distributed and none kept by me or misappropriated in any way. And,
if it would be possible US currency would be appreciated. I
believe that would be the easiest and most efficient path, but no
donation would be denied.

If the list is willing we can proceed. I am hoping that there are
more than half a dozen or so of us willing to help financially with
the truly worthy effort. It is such a small thing but with so much
potential.

Hello Gustl,
Sorry I have not replied earlier I am in the middle of 'finals season'
here at the university. Finals are end of semester tests, for those who
may not know.

I have also been hesitant to reply because you did leave out Keith from
your email. I realize both now and then that it was unintentional. We
can't forget that Keith and Midori have been doing this a lot longer and
have put significantly more "hard labor" into JtF than I have.

JtF is their life!

I agree with the generosity of you and the others, I would accept money
only on the acceptance Keith has for the offer, and I assume the money
would be split in some ratio between Keith and myself.

Any money received by myself would only be put toward making the
hardware running the JtF web page and the biofuel mailing list more
reliable. As a lot of you probably noticed, both the web page and the
list were down for quite some time over the weekend. The infoarchive
(wwia.org) has not been updated recently because of the possibility of
the database causing the server to crash. I will remedy this problem
over the coming weekend. I sincerely appreciate anyone's generosity.

If anyone needs a 501(c)(3) receipt make the donation to "The
Religious Order of Friends" and earmark it for the "JTF Fund" and I
will provide them with the proper receipt and see that the money gets
to the proper place and that the donation is accounted for with Keith

the discretionary power to make such decisions.

It is such a small thing but with so much
potential.

RE: [Biofuel] "The sweet smell of success"

2004-12-15 Thread Mel Riser

I am heading up to Missouri the first week in January to Interview Charles of
Greasel for my video on SVO conversions.

As well I am picking up the kit and stuff I need to convert my Blazer. Charles
even mentioned we might even do the conversion right there and he would help
for being in the video.

As well I am interested in interviewing anyone running SVO now and could do
some of the interviews by telephone.

Anyone interested in helping?

In the trucker magazine "Land Line" in the December issue there is an
article about a Heartland truck driver who runs SVO in his 18 wheeler!
The magazine is free and I subscribe to it as a part-time owner operator
"hotshot" trucker (with my pickup truck). There is a link to the article
here:

http://www.landlinemag.com/Archives/2004/Dec04/features/sweet_smell.htm

It's a fun read and really quite interesting to see someone who pulls
80,000 lbs at 5.5 MPG running 90+% WVO.

Nice exposure too!!!

Re: [Biofuel] "The sweet smell of success"

2004-12-15 Thread Neoteric Biofuels Inc

(Even if I think I know where he could get an onboard fuel processor
that might give him longer filter life! ;-)

There are quite a few buses and trucks running SVO/WVO in Europe as
well, and lots of kilometers being accumulated. A hard working diesel
(trucks, any highway use, marine, generators if not oversized, etc.)
are good SVO applications - keep them hot and working, not idling and
loafing around town, and any diesel is a lot happier, and this is even
more true on SVO.

Having physical limitations is not a sign of being disabled. Having all your
senses and parts ect. and walking around eyes wide shut is a much more
adequate description of "disabled", IMHO.

Some good reminders for us all here. Not just of the ongoing efforts of
some very dedicated people, but also of the fact that they put their
money,

and their time, into "Journey to Forever". I, for one, know of no other
site anywhere, without exception, where one can find such an extensive
compilation of pertinent, referenced knowledge presented purely because a
group of people desire to share a better way. There are no strings
attached
here, no required monthly fees for access to this vault of information.
If
you want this information, or better yet, need this information, simply
help

yourself. It's all very clearly linked, and well presented here, so you
will have no trouble finding your way around. All that takes time and
effort, not too mention considerable skill to add to the site when
required.

But for our focus, in this thread anyway, it takes money, and I will be
contributing based on how important this has been for myself, and how
valuable I believe this site too be for my family. On a personal note, I
happen to be disabled, not something I have ever mentioned on this list
before, and as a result of this my family and I are on a very tight
budget.
Thanks to this site specifically, I have, over the past month, constructed
a

waste oil heater, which works amazingly well and now heats my garage/shop.
I am currently working on constructing my first biodiesel processor. I
don't expect to be finished with construction until around the end of
March

though because I am also working on some other projects at the same time,
also slated for completion in early Spring 2005 (Turning Barrel Composter,
4 Auto-Shut-Off rain barrels). I will be posting all of my plans for
these

in approx. 3 weeks time, with drawings, and will then be submitting pics
when projects complete. My point is that "Journey to Forever", first
instructed me step by step, on how to do exactly what I needed to do to
help

myself, and my family. For that alone, I am so much more than grateful.
But when you add to that all the great advice, and clear voices from
around

this beautiful planet that I am now privileged to be able listen to, and I
can tell you that "Journey to Forever" now has another advocate for life.

[Biofuel] Better than bio diesel?

2004-12-15 Thread grahams

excerpt...
Doing away with solar cells and batteries, their robot
Ecobot
II has a stomach consisting of eight microbial fuel cells, or MFCs, that
contain bacteria harvested from sewage sludge. The microbes break down the
food into sugars, converting biochemical energy into electricity that
powers the robot. With bacteria breaking the food down and a type of
robotic "respiration" in which air provides oxygen to the fuel cells to
create useful energy, the whole system mimics real digestion as closely as
possible.

Re: [Biofuel] vacuum dehydration & methanol recovery

2004-12-15 Thread Leif Forer

According to Mark Schofield (who originally recommended the pricey
$7,000 BOC Edwards vacuum pump) and Doug Foskey, methanol fouls the
pump's lubricating oil causing them to rapidly break. Sounds like an
oil-free vacuum pump is what we're after. My guess is that the Thomas
1020 that Manuel found is an oil-free diaphragm pump. Do you know?

Any thoughts about material compatibility (will the methanol break down
any of the components) and safety (like explosions) with this pump? My
thinking is that if we use a liquid trap like Nick, Ian, and Dale the
pump should be somewhat protected.

   * Use for pressure or vacuum
   * Fully adjustable valve 0-100 psi.
   * Delivers 2.17 cfm @ 100 psi - or 27" Hg.

It is a lower capacity vacuum pump compared with those used in Ian's
or Dale's but maybe
good for those of us who can not easily find such good and suited
surplus equipment.

Also, Todd (Appal Energy) posted an url: www.bocedwards.com and
provided some
vacuum pump specs which you can find in the mailing list archives
message #25964

I find difficult to calculate the time required to evacuate the
methanol because besides the temperature
and vacuum pressure, the time will probably depend strongly on the
volume of air/gases to be
evacuated (hoses, not filled tank volume) and how well sealed is the
equipment. However,
experienced people in this list could probably estimate if this pump
would take longer or shorter than

other pumps they have tried.

Please let me know if you find something better.

Wondering if you can help me with a couple of vacuum pump
questions. I am building a reactor out of a 150 gallon vessel and
want to use vacuum to dry incoming waste oil, dry washed biodiesel,
and recover methanol from glycerin and biodiesel. I am trying to
figure out what vacuum pump I need (at least the ball park
specifications) and find an affordable source.

Have you see this

Follow the link to Dale's explanation of his set-up
http://home.swbell.net/scrof/Biod_Proc.html He is the guy who
originally used a water heater as a reactor.

Luc

On safety: Do you think I need to be concerned about getting an
explosion proof or totally enclosed fan cooled vacuum pump? Even
though the system will have to be closed and I'll have a liquid
trap?

Technical: Any idea what the free air CFM @ 25" Hg would have to be
to evacuate 20 gallons of methanol from a 150 gallon tank in a
reasonable amount of time (1 to 2 hours)?

In the trucker magazine "Land Line" in the December issue there is an
article about a Heartland truck driver who runs SVO in his 18 wheeler! The
magazine is free and I subscribe to it as a part-time owner operator
"hotshot" trucker (with my pickup truck). There is a link to the article
here:

It's a fun read and really quite interesting to see someone who pulls
80,000 lbs at 5.5 MPG running 90+% WVO.

Nice exposure too!!!

Hallo Friends,

I may be out of line here with this idea I have but here it is. Martin
Klingensmith has volunteered his time and effort to giving this list a
good home. More than the time and effort I believe he is spending his
own money on the physical resources (hardware/software) needed to keep
this list alive and upgrade it.

If each of us who appreciate his efforts would consider sending a
dollar or two or five (or the "foreign" equivalent) to him to help him
defray his costs it would not only be a kind gesture but show our
appreciation of his work in a way which would allow him to continue
with his fine work and make the list even better and more secure and
efficient. Anyone who was around for the last attack on the list
knows what I mean about being secure.

I am not sure how Martin would feel about this as I haven't spoken to
him about it. My feelings on the matter are that this list is a
little home for a bunch of good people and that it serves the greater
good of us all. I am willing to act as the collection point and
receive any contributions which anyone would care to make and send
them on to Martin, with his and the lists permission. Any donations
could be sent to Martin in care of me at my address and I would
forward them to him unless Martin does not mind giving his address to
the list and receiving them directly.

What are the lists thoughts on this those of the list owner and
administrators and, of course, Martin?

Happy Happy,

Gustl

Hallo Friends,

I may be out of line here with this idea I have but here it is. Martin
Klingensmith has volunteered his time and effort to giving this list a
good home. More than the time and effort I believe he is spending his
own money on the physical resources (hardware/software) needed to keep
this list alive and upgrade it.

If each of us who appreciate his efforts would consider sending a
dollar or two or five (or the "foreign" equivalent) to him to help him
defray his costs it would not only be a kind gesture but show our
appreciation of his work in a way which would allow him to continue

I am not sure how Martin would feel about this as I haven't spoken to
him about it. My feelings on the matter are that this list is a
little home for a bunch of good people and that it serves the greater
good of us all. I am willing to act as the collection point and

I have been told that its best to use ASME certified biodiesel for the
newer

cars because of the centrifuge used in processing to eliminate something,
and that using homebrew made from WVO is dangerous.

I just bought a TDI and am running my first tank of ASME certified
biodiesel

through the car, but would really like to use WVO and do homebrew.

Opinions? Facts?

Re: [Biofuel] vacuum dehydration & methanol recovery

2004-12-15 Thread Manuel del Rio

Leif,

About an affordable vacuum pump. I found a pressure/vacuum pump from Thomas
Compressors

model Thomas 1020 being sold by Amazon for U$179.99
The features from Amazon's description:
   * Lightweight, portable, quiet running
   * 3/4 HP - Tankless Compressor
   * Use for pressure or vacuum
   * Fully adjustable valve 0-100 psi.
   * Delivers 2.17 cfm @ 100 psi - or 27" Hg.

It is a lower capacity vacuum pump compared with those used in Ian's or
Dale's but maybe
good for those of us who can not easily find such good and suited surplus
equipment.

Also, Todd (Appal Energy) posted an url: www.bocedwards.com and provided some
vacuum pump specs which you can find in the mailing list archives message
#25964

I find difficult to calculate the time required to evacuate the methanol
because besides the temperature
and vacuum pressure, the time will probably depend strongly on the volume
of air/gases to be
evacuated (hoses, not filled tank volume) and how well sealed is the
equipment. However,
experienced people in this list could probably estimate if this pump would
take longer or shorter than

other pumps they have tried.

Please let me know if you find something better.

Best regards,
Manuel

Wondering if you can help me with a couple of vacuum pump questions. I
am building a reactor out of a 150 gallon vessel and want to use vacuum
to dry incoming waste oil, dry washed biodiesel, and recover methanol
from glycerin and biodiesel. I am trying to figure out what vacuum pump
I need (at least the ball park specifications) and find an affordable source.

Have you see this

Follow the link to Dale's explanation of his set-up

used a water heater as a reactor.

On safety: Do you think I need to be concerned about getting an
explosion proof or totally enclosed fan cooled vacuum pump? Even though
the system will have to be closed and I'll have a liquid trap?

Technical: Any idea what the free air CFM @ 25" Hg would have to be to
evacuate 20 gallons of methanol from a 150 gallon tank in a reasonable
amount of time (1 to 2 hours)?

Re: [Biofuel] vacuum dehydration & methanol recovery

2004-12-15 Thread Kevin Shea

Hi Leif,
I'm also looking into creating a methanol recovery unit / water evaporator
with the aid of a vacuum pump and have the same concerns. In fact, I was
going to post the same questions you have!

Mainly, what vacuum pump to use along with the condenser that will not
explode from the recovered methanol. This is my next addition to my
processor and would echo your concerns with any advice on this subject.

HELP!!

there's not enough info on his site to answer my questions. I'm still

I am building a reactor out of a 150 gallon vessel and want to use

vacuum pump I need (at least the ball park specifications) and find

To put $590 per year in perspective, it is roughly half of what we
spend on telecommunication services(cable, telephone & cell phone)
each year, or about $1.50 per day, or $0.40 per family member per day.

As much as I sympathize with the effort to reduce food waste, I do not
see how we can be any more frugal.

Subject: [Biofuel] Martin's Job

Gustl

You'll have ups (like now) and there will be downs, but don't give up, stick
with, work through it, and ASK. There are no dumb questions, there are only
dumb expressions for not having asked :-)

increase in value and further devalue the dollar as a result. The Japanese
have this signed up saying they will support the dollar, but they are no
longer able to sustain it as the Russians and Chines along with others are
dumping it, putting pressure on those slated to support it. India is also
falering on dumping it and OPEC has already started decreasing dollar
influence in favour of the Euro.
The US has always had the policy of exporting it's inflation this way, to
get others to support their fiscal mismanagement, but this time it isn't
working nor will it work resulting in a monumentous slide.
JP Morgan's ( a parrtner member in the Federal Reserve) derivatives alone
are in the trillions, way over any assets they can muster. A call-in of
those derivatives and it' s toodaloo to the dollar supremacy overnight. And
why should anyone want to support the currency of a nation fully engaged in
criminal hegemony for ono one's benefit but the already too rich or those
seeking to be rich and independant (finally, wink, wink)?

Maybe very interesting but not entirely accurate. The
Chinese yuan is pegged to the US dollar, so the dollar
cannot deflate with relation to Chinese currency. This
helps them because if the dollar deflated relative to
the yuan imported Chinese goods would become more
expensive and their sales to the US would decrease.
