The question of whether the farmlands of the United States are capable of fueling what Kunstler calles the Happy Motoring Society mech less the world, doesn't seem to interest this writer. Nor do the possibilities of building cars which don't need as much fuel, of getting around without cars. or even of building an economy and a society in which we don't have to move around as much and maybe don't want to flee the places where we live and work.
I thought that editors were supposed to filter out articles by glittery-eyed lunatics, or at least get them to rewrite with a nod to reality. But it's probably true that I'm old-fashioned.
