Hello folks, this passage have caught my eye: --- In biofuel@yahoogroups.com, Gustl Steiner-Zehender [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hallo Keith, Saturday, 26 June, 2004, 23:19:07, you wrote: ...snips throughout... even more snips I have seen them using kerosene refrigerators and freezers though. Now, after reading this, I remembered, that there are thermaly driven refrigerators. And this lead me to the idea: to have a thermally driven air conditioner. It seams perfectly reasonable for homes with the solar in mind, _not_ to do air conditioning through this process: solar--(photovoltaic panel)--electricity--(air conditioner)--cooling but through this process: solar--(thermal collector)--heat--(heat driven AC)--cooling This eliminates the inefficient and costy solar energy conversion into electricity; quite a few houses have thermal panels for water heating already, so this method of AC might also use them... Has anyone here encountered such a beast? PS sorry, a little bit off-topic, but hey, still interesting... Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- Yahoo! I don't see one at their site: KA http://www.lehmans.com/ I have never seen the Amish using pressure stoves of any kind although I have seen them using the pressure lamps for lighting. But in this area we only have Swiss and Old Order Amish and a few Beachy Amish who use electricity, phones and autos. I can't speak as to what the Renno, Nebraska, Swartzentruber or other Amish groups use. I have seen them using kerosene refrigerators and freezers though. The next time I am by my Amish brethren I will ask them about where they get their kerosene stoves. I would almost bet it would be down in Indiana among the Old Order Amish there. It is sometimes difficult to find their stores because they have them often in their homes. My friend Jake Eicher has a store in his home but he doesn't sell such items. He will surely know where to find kerosene stoves. As for kerosene refrigerators...just outside Shipshewana, Indiana there is an Amish fellow who sells reconditioned and used kerosene refrigerators. North side of US20 but I don't remember which farm. I will have to ask Orva Miller. That is a drive though. Next time I head that way I will remember to ask Orva and then report back. RE: [biofuel] Raschig rings
Virtually any compatible material can be used as column packing. Broken up ceramic coffee mugs, glass, marbles, short sections of small diameter pipe (this is very similar to raschig rings), pieces of metal, like I said damn near anything. Raschig rings are simply optimal packing as they are shaped and sized to create the largest possible surface area within the column/condenser. For distilling ethanol at home you hardly need industrial/laboratory grade materials such as real raschig rings. --adam -Original Message- From: benjinsl [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, June 19, 2004 8:04 AM To: biofuel@yahoogroups.com Subject: [biofuel] Raschig rings Greetings all, I am planning to build a small ethanol still, http://www.moonshine-still.com/still.pdf, and would like to know if anyone can recommend a reputable source of raschig rings, or have any ideas of substitutes?
