[swinog] Old functional hardware - where does it best go?

2012-09-07 Diskussionsfäden Jeroen Massar
Hi,

So, interrupting the summery silence on this list a bit, and it might
not be entirely swinog-appropriate... but... I was doing some sorting
out of various things and realized that I amassed too many old unused
computers and various components that are still in full functional
order, but not very useful to use due to their oldness, powerconsumption
and simply as they have been replaced with better ones.

As such, I am asking if somebody knows what the best way is to get
effectively rid of various things like a full functioning
(network,video,audio) p100 (DEC multia), a p200 (small tower), a dual
p2-266 (tower), a dual p3-600 (qube case), nslu2's and then an assorted
list of other things like cd drives etc.

What is the best way to go with this kind of stuff? Trash is an option,
but it is not like these things are small ;)

Greets,
 Jeroen

Hey Jeroen,

when I cleaned out my lab, a similar list of items plus a ton of old Cisco
stuff, I donated the whole lot to some guys who were putting together a
hackerspace. Maybe there's something similar, a hackerspace or maker lab near
you?

If the size and weight is the problem, give Swico a call
(http://www.swicorecycling.ch/d/entsorgen_abholauftrag.asp), they will
bring you a container, you can fill it and they will pick it up the next
day - all free of charge...

Regards,

Mike

Hi all,

Well before, you drop all your stuff in the infinity of the garbage
disposal aka how do we ship all this stuff to africa, an email to the
local hackerspace and ask if they need equipment.
http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/Switzerland
Regularly they / we look for any kind of extraordinary computers, or
network equipment for the next gathering.

* http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/Switzerland
* http://www.cosin.ch
* https://easterhegg.ch

By the way, to all who did help locate equipment for the easterhegg,
thanks a lot. It was very much appreciated.

Or you do have really old or rear equipment / computer. You should get
in touch with this people.

* http://www.mfk.ch/kontakt.html (mainly swiss design or produced equipment)
* http://www.pcmuseum.ch/index.php?id=kontakt
* http://cmgb.blogspot.ch/ (small but proud to keep all systems running)

Hope I could give some alternatives.

See you soon
Miguel

if someone somthing like DSLAM with the apropriate Patchpanel has to
throw away, i could use such things for at least 24 Ports.

please drop me a note.
