RE: t-and-f: Browne named Athlete of the Week

Nothing against Browne, as I am very glad to see a good marathon performance
out of him BUT... can USATF retroactively award David Krummenacker with an
Athlete of the Week honor? Seems something of an anomaly that David, who
has certainly out performed many on the Athlete of the Week roster, won't
receive that recognition.

I only hope that when the USATF Annual Meeting rolls into Kansas City he'll
be given the a bit more consideration.

Browne named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Dan Browne has been named USA Track Field’s Athlete of the
Week after his victory at Sunday’s USA Men’s Marathon Championship at the
Twin Cities Marathon.

In his debut as a marathoner, Browne won the 26.2-mile race from Minneapolis
to St. Paul, Minn., in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 35 seconds. In winning the 10th
national title of his career, Browne also won the 2002 USA Running Circuit
men’s title ($6,000) and a winner’s check of $34,000.

In other top performances from the weekend, Jill Gaitenby won her first
national title and set a personal record by winning the USA Women’s Marathon
Championship in 2:36:10 at Twin Cities. Gaitenby teamed with Susannah Beck
for most of the race, before breaking away from Beck in the final miles for
the title and a check of $29,000.

National titles were also up for grabs at the 2002 USA 2-Hour/1-Hour Race
Walk Championships Sunday on Long Island, N.Y., where Philip Dunn and Susan
Armenta won the men’s and women’s national championships.

Dunn was in a one-on-one battle with Curt Clausen until he broke away for
good at the 19K mark. Dunn covered 26,815 meters for the win. Clausen was
the runner-up with 26,655 meters.

Armenta led from start to finish in winning her fourth national title of the
year by capturing the USA women’s 1-hour crown with 12,195 meters. Cheryl
Rellinger was the runner-up with 11,236 meters.

Now in its second year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to
recognize performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree
each week and features the athlete on the USATF Web site. Selections are

He tore it up in Europe this summer, didn't he? Something about
Krummenacker being the
fastest 800m/1500m American ever (1:43.9, 3:31.9)... Hell, he was really
the only
American man who was competitive at 800m and up, had 3 firsts and 3 seconds
in GP
events.
