Dear Alan, This means, from 30 April on, you can get with the above query what you intended to get. The update for this change is not yet operational. The software is, in contrast to the testing system, painfully slow, and I'm still figuring out what has gone wrong. I'm sorry for the delay. I'll inform you when the update gets operational. Ja, zumindest teilweise ein Import (u.a. Baumkataster in Girona). Richtig wäre wohl broad_leaved, die zweithäufigste Variante. Gruß, Tobias ___ Talk-de mailing list Talk-de@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-de

Hej OSAK-kyndige, Kommunerne har tilsyneladende forskellige måder at registrere haveforenings-adresser på (og København bruger selv forskellige metoder) Jeg her lige faldet over en ny måde, hvor street benytter vejnavnet i haveforeningen (addr:street=Koralstien), men haveforeningen angives i addr:subdivision=Hf. Amager Strand. Eksempel her: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=55.650007lon=12.634769zoom=18layers=M Jeg har umiddelbart tre kommentarer: 1. 2. I eksemplet bør Hf. skrives ud til Haveforeningen. Bør vores vejnavns-indrapporteringsværktøjer udvides til at håndtere subdivisions? 3.
[Talk-ca] the data layer has moved
In a note similar to the earlier one on GPS Tracks. The data layer has moved. This happened several weeks ago. When the layer switcher was improved a while back, it was changed from the mysterious white on blue plus sign to a drop down with the word Standard showing by default. The also mysterious unless you were an initiate layer names like mapnik and osmarender were also changed. There are dozens of other little changes that are being rolled out one or two at a time. Often the changes are so subtle that you might realize something is different but you can't be sure what it is that changed. Did you note when the tabs went away? :-) But about the data layer. It used to be available as an overlay in the layer switcher. Now, no the top menu, hover over the tell-tale beside the Edit entry. When the list appears, select Browse map data. Other changes I don't notice. There are a couple of ways to find out what changed, and why. You can ask here or on other lists. You can watch the dev@ list and see discussion of new features before they are rolled out. You can follow the git commits and see the changes as they are rolled out. You can watch the #osm IRC channel and get a combination of the discussion, and helpful people to answer questions. As always, OpenStreetMap is an open data project as well as a Free / Libre Software / Open Source project. Your contributions are welcome. So if you have ideas about what should be improved, please dive into the code and offer patches. ___ Talk-ca mailing list Talk-ca@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ca

[Talk-ca] Canvec.osm Product -Completed!
Bonjour OSMers! Canvec.osm product conversion completed last week! I will soon reprocess the files to create and add metadata (Metadata.txt) into each .zip file. At the same occasion, I will correct some potential oddities identified by Paul Norman. What is new: * There is no more Here be Dragons areas in the Canvec product! NRCan completed mapping Canada at 50K scale about 2 months ago. Almost 100 years after Canada started mapping at this scale (approximately!-) * Municipal Boundaries for SK,MB,NB,YT,NT and NU - linear - are available Changes from previous release: * Water definition (natural=water) now fits the Osm coastline definition (high water level). * Format of the ZippedOsm.txt in ftp site has changed. * The .osm files are now created with a osm version='0.6' upload='false' tag to prevent accidental upload. The data can still be uploaded, it just gives another warning before the upload so that the mapper can double-check his action. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CanVec#CanVec_10http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CanVec Thanks to those who are maintaining this wiki page :-) Let me know if you find unexpected problems in the data. [OSM-talk-fr] Server API : bogue HTTP
When updating data, I now frequently get an error displayed in JOSM Prematured End of Communication (EOF) ) la fin d'une mise à jour. ___ Talk-fr mailing list Talk-fr@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-fr

Re: [OSM-talk-fr] Server API : bogue HTTP
One of our goals is to identify greenfield locations within residential areas. The preservation of greenfields for parks and community gardens is laudable in itself, but could be considered strategic for long term plans to improve the quality of life here in Indonesia. On the one hand, open space is very important, and on the other hand, installation of residential water tanks, municipal buildings, and sewer facilities requires land near or within residential areas. When you look at the map you can see just how densely populated the residential areas are, and why preservation of greenfields for public service use could be key to long term improvements. Jakarta has very little open space remaining, and the speed of development in Bogor is only increasing while municipal infrastructure services are, for the most part, standing still. Any and all help with the identification of greenfields near residential areas is most appreciated, along with the usual tracing of roads, commercial area buildings, and building complexes that can serve as place markers. For many of the area residents the maps we are issuing for walking papers are the first map they have ever seen of the area, and the building outlines are the most common means used to make sense of the maps. We are in contact with additional NGOs in the area seeking collaborators, and, in conversation, finding that these organizations are just as flummoxed by the total lack of an accurate street map. Everyone needs maps, right? A place without a map! Well, the folks on this list know that is much too common a case, still, and we appreciate any and all help you may provide in remedying the situation for this area of 5 million people. Expanding abbreviations requires a bit of a human touch. Creating abbreviations in the renderer when so desired, not so much. This is true, but if one is talking about the TIGER data, there are a number of hints that can make this problem virtually nil. There's a tag tiger:name_type key that contains the value of the expandable name section, eg. St or Ln or Pky. AFAIK these are always expandable to Street, Lane and Parkway. And of course one must only expand the name_tag value if it's the last component of the name string, eg. Ln Ln should be Ln Lane. This should be fairly easy to construct in a regex, but one should be careful of it. Those two rules should eliminate a vast majority of expansion issues. If we only expand TIGER data, then it should be a fairly straightforward process. Of course such a script should be peer reviewed and tested, but I'm confident that the error rate will be very low. I guess this would be okay, so long as it gets peer reviewed and tested by a group including you. And for those few exceptions where the expansion is wrong, a human review process will turn this up and make it fairly correctable. In fact, I'd argue that the problems won't be subtle, making them easy to spot and fix. How would the human review process work? Isn't it better to do the review *before* editing the database? In return, we'll save hundreds, maybe thousands of man hours doing expansions. Useless expansions, though. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

If someone manually expanded 1,000,000 street name abbreviations, and made 1,000 mistakes, it would not be acceptable. If they were doing something more useful than expanding street name abbreviations, fine. But expanding street name abbreviations, according to a very simple heuristic which can easily be done at the preprocessing stage, is not very useful. If this is going to be done, I hope the error rate is much smaller than 1 in 1,000. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

And actually, if the bot is going to be smart enough to look at the history, to find deleted TIGER tags, then maybe there is some advantage to doing this during the preprocessing step (which would often not have access to history data). ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

But I am assuming this could be done with much less than a 1/1000 error rate. 1/10,000 would maybe be acceptable. 1/100,000 would be okay. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us

[Talk-us] What happened to the license-change highlighting in Potlatch 2?
Hello all, For the past couple of days in Potlatch 2, the ways and points done by nonagreers to the license have been highlighted in red and orange. I thought, At last, a useful tool for remapping! Considering most of downtown LA has to be redone, it was a blessing to have it. Now, this morning, I had to sign in again, and the highlighting is gone. What happened? It's not like we have an abundance of tools to help us with the remapping. Is this just more of the lack of communication, organization and direction that has characterized the effort so far? Re: [Talk-us] What happened to the license-change highlighting in Potlatch 2?
I think it was added a while back. I mostly use josm. I like the license check plugin. It seems easier to use than potlatch which seems to highlight every possible license issue. With josm you just click on an item on the list, right click to zoom to problem on the node. Then I usually clean up all of the items near by. When your done with all the items the area is clean. The plugin gives three categories of license issues, Data Loss, Possible Data Loss, and Harmless Data Loss. I've been concentrating of the first category. There are so many Data Loss nodes that I'll never get done by the time the bot starts running. (Even if its another couple of months!) josm has more of a learning curve, but better features, cutting and pasting for example. I haven't figured out how to assign actions to a key yet. I have been adding turning circles and pedestrian cross walks as I happen on them. It would be nice to be able to hit a key to add a turning circle to the end of a way. The question is whether or not it's okay for a bot to expand abbreviations. And to a large extent that depends on how accurate the bot will be. If the bot is sure to be 100% accurate, then hey, no problem. But I don't believe that is the case. ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
