Re: [talk-ph] Welcoming new PH mappers
Thanks Totor. So we have a welcoming committee member in Cebu. :) What about other areas? On Mon, Oct 27, 2014 at 12:42 PM, Totor totor_...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi, I usually send a welcome message to new mappers in Cebu (I stopped monitoring Bohol a long time ago), but only if the user has several edits over some days/weeks. I always though it might feel creepy if you receive a welcome message, as soon as you do your first edit. This makes that I did not send that many (around 10 I guess since I started mapping) but I had feedback from about half of them. I generally thank them for helping in Cebu (there are not many mappers here) and tell they can ask me or the mailing list (with link) for help/answers, and add links to the ph and main map features page. If there are big or repeating problems with the edits, I also add a comment on how I would map that. I think this is a good strategy to inform the mappers that: 1. their contributions (however small) were appreciated; 2. they can ask questions if they want to. In some cases, recipients respond and appreciate the message. Most of the times, I don't get a response. I don't know if there are those in the list who do this as well. Might be good to coordinate efforts in order not overwhelm new users with unsolicited messages. Swiss OSM do this too [0]. If you want to know the new editors in the PH you can check this page [1]. I think some of last week's new contributors were from Project NOAH's workshop in Iloilo.
Re: [OSM-talk-be] import AGIV CRAB-data
Het beste van 'both worlds' lijkt me. Gewoon tiger:source, CRAB:source odbl, CRAB:huisnrlabel. odbl:note, CRAB:message yh:LINE_NAME,gemeente yh:TYPE, postnummer gebruiken is veel simpeler. Picking up on Paul's offer to help along the discussion here [1]. Also copying Steve here as he's renewed his call for better addressing in OpenStreetMap - which I entirely agree with [2]. Feedback from this thread is incorporated on the wiki [2] - thanks particularly to Frederik for this work. However, we have two competing visions for how to interpret geocoding. Column 1 of the wiki page interprets the information queried from OpenStreetMap in a typical geocoding request as Produced Work, thus not extending share alike provisions to geocoded data. Column 2 interprets the content pulled from OpenStreetMap in a geocoding process as a Derivative Database but the database this content is inserted to as a Collective Database. Column 1 entirely enables permanent geocoding with OpenStreetMap data from a legal perspective. Column 2 doesn't enable permanent geocoding by extending share alike provisions to the part of a database that contains OSM derived geocodes. This interpretation would impede the important fall back use case where a geocoder uses OpenStreetMap data - and where OpenStreetMap data is not sufficient - proprietary data as a fallback. In such scenarios both OpenStreetMap data (e. g. lat/lon's) and proprietary data would wind up in the same database to be licensed under the ODbL. It would also impede use cases where data is expected to be relicensed. For making OpenStreetMap viable as a geocoding database, we'll want a permissive reading of our license - no matter what we opine on share alike for the larger database. Of course, enabling permanent geocoding isn't the end-all-be-all strategy for making OpenStreetMap an awesome geocoding database - but it's an important incentive that we can't do without. Having more people use OpenStreetMap as a geocoding database will give us better admin polygons, better place data and better addresses. The opportunity is huge, none of the proprietary data providers provide reasonable terms for _permanent_ geocoding - making everyone look for alternatives. OpenStreetMap should be that alternative. Would love suggestions on how to proceed on taking a decision here. The definition of Collective Database seems to be tailored to use cases where the OpenStreetMap database *in unmodified form* is part of a larger database. I can't quite conjure up a real world example, but the ODbL is pretty clear about this: “Collective Database” – Means this Database in unmodified form as part of a collection of independent databases in themselves that together are assembled into a collective whole. A work that constitutes a Collective Database will not be considered a Derivative Database. - See more at: http://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/#sthash.mDtnZAPO.dpuf The this Database in unmodified form means the particular database that is licensed under ODbL. It can be the OSM database itself, or any database derived from the OSM database that must in itself be licensed under ODbL. So if you did any transformations on the OSM database (ex., converted it into a form suitable for a geocoder), the transformed database is licensed under the ODbL. You can either publish this transformed database or provide the software used to create the transformed database to comply with the license of the source OSM database. Then, this geocoder database can become part of the collective database. ___ legal-talk mailing list legal-talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk ___ legal-talk mailing list legal-talk@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/legal-talk

I'm wondering if we should replace geocodes with geocoding results throughout the page. I think it improves clarity as to what is being discussed, and geocodes is not a term in common use for what we are discussing. Thoughts? It shouldn't change the meaning. Given the lack of mention of a *database* of geocodes, as it stands I don't think column 1 helps with any standard use cases, where you will have many geocodes in a database. What do you think the status of a database of geocoding results is under the interpretation in column 1? Re: [OSM-legal-talk] White Paper on ODbL and OSM
I posted a summary of the white paper on my diary. In discussions at State of the Map US and EU people have asked for a more comprehensive review of the license and more specific use cases that we're currently missing out on - which in turn means contributors we're missing out on. I hope this paper sheds more light on this. Clearly, share alike is one of the main impediments to broader adoption, but it's not the only issue with the license - read on for details. http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/lxbarth/diary/25979 On Mon, Oct 27, 2014 at 6:16 PM, Kevin Pomfret kdpomf...@gmail.com wrote: Attached please find a link to a blog post on the Spatial Law and Policy blog that discusses a White Paper prepared by the Centre for Spatial Law and Policy on the ODbL and the use of OSM data. [OSM-talk] The Working Groups need you!
With the recent interest in the OSMF, I'm hoping to capitalize on this and boost working group participation. There's a full list of the working groups at http://wiki.osmfoundation.org/wiki/Working_Groups, but I'll go over the list, and skills useful for participation. These aren't official, but gathered by working with the other WGs as well as their minutes. Communications Working Group (CWG) This WG handles OSMF communications, and writes blog posts for some of the communication channels. They handle the official tweeting too. Other work involves decisions and policies related to communication. Skills useful include writing and translation. Other skills would be those useful with press releases. https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/osmf-talk/2014-June/002418.html has more information Local Chapters Working Group (LCWG) The LCWG has been involved in setting up the Local Chapters agreement, and some local groups are becoming involved in officially becoming local chapters. I wish I could say more, but I'm not really involved, and the form of the LCWG may change once agreements are in place. Engineering Working Group (EWG) The EWG serves a dual purpose, to boost development of OSM software, and the discussion and coordination of pull requests to core OSM software. Membership is open to anyone who shows up to the IRC meetings. Activity has been very low lately, but if people are interested in resuming the EWG's work, the venue is there. Skills would include some kind of experience with software development. Operations Working Group (OWG) The OWG handles the planning of OSMF hardware. It doesn't do the day-to-day running of servers, nor authoring software of the servers which are the jobs of the sys admins and development community respectively. I don't think the OWG is actively looking for more. Many of the people in the OWG are also involved in developing OSM software, and I would guess that helping there would be a better route to getting started. Strategic Working Group (SWG) Currently inactive. There have been proposals to restart it, Dermot is the best contact there. StateoftheMap Organizing (SOTM) Organizes and executes the annual SOTM conference. There is the local team and the international team. The local team requires being local to the conference, obviously. I would expect the international team requires conference organization skills, but there have been no minutes published since 2010 and the members list has not been updated since the 2013 conference. Licensing Working Group (LWG) The LWG handles license-related matters, external parties violating the license, as well as some other general legal matters. Day to day matters are primarily answering questions, generally by pointing at existing guidelines. We haven't had the time or capacity to take on issues of new guidelines and longer term projects like we would like to. Skills needed include experience with open data licensing. Data Working Group (DWG) The DWG handles resolution of copyright violation within the OSM database, and vandalism and disputes beyond the normal means of the community. Most of the work is dealing with disputes and vandalism referred to the DWG from the community. As most situations involve people who will be upset, a thick skin is important. Other skills include dispute resolution, vandalism detection, and complex reverts. One idea for a new working group would be one for funding. This would take some of this work off of others who are currently doing the work, even though it's not their primary function. I also see numerous proposals for things that would require additional money, without discussion of how to raise the money. This includes my manifesto proposal of hiring a facilitator. The work around is that you express interest and the chair of the relevant working group invites you. We'd like the chair of each working group to be an OSMF member but there is no hard and fast rule beyond that. It is basically up to the chair. Certainly as License Working Group chair, I would welcome anyone interested in problem solving in a collective atmosphere ... either as long-term member or to work on some particular issue or project that motivates you. I am also nominally Management Team chair. I would also personally love to get folks involved without having to be attached to a particular working group or taking on a long-term committment. For example, and I hope I am not treading on his toes, Dermot McNally is tasked with coming up with a workable system for running our up-coming board election to STV for the first time. He is looking at using OpaVote for the polling and may be OpenSTV for validation. He may need help, drop him or me line. From my memory, (which can be suspect), Clifford, I think you may be referring to the Future now aka Strategic Working Group? We felt that to be a bit of an exception due to the nature of the remit. Yes, let's the LWG answer about the license. Let me say that this is great what we have accomplished as an OpenStreetMap community with this Ebola outbreak. Andrew Buck and myself, and HOT as the umbrella organization are there to make the bridge between this community and the humanitarian organizations, to strenghten the relations with the humanitarian organizations. This is one mission among others in OSM and we simply cannot do such job without the OSMcommunity. The response we have received for both the Haiyan typhoon in november 2013 and for this Ebola outbreak is simply fantastic. There is a lot of media and academic attention about the progression of OpenStreetMap. Since the Haiti Earthquake in january 2010, there humanitarian organizations and UN agencies are also follwing closely the OSM community. With this unprecented response over the last 7 months with this Ebola outbreak, OSM is under the spots. The West Africa Ebola Response wiki page reports this media coverage. For this Ebola outbreak, HOT coordinates with MSF, Red Cross, UN-WHO, UN-OCHA and the Digital Humanitarian Network. To date, almost 2,000 OSM contributors from 100 countries and more then 10 millions objects edited. More then these statistics, this is the professionalism of the OSM organization, the capacity to provide a reliable environment and tools, assure connectivity with GIS softwares, propose various free Mapping services, including for small devices, and adapt quickly to the needs of the humanitarian organizations that is recognized. This professionalism of the OSM community among the various volunteer communities is the main message.
- wer darf was? - wer darf was nicht? - wer muss erst fragen? wen? - wer trifft Entscheidungen? wie? - wer informiert wen?

Jediny co me napadlo bylo proste umazat tag budovy a nechat ID. Pravda, moh bych k tomu jeste pripsat nejaky note/fixme. Jde pochopitelne predevsim o importy/tracer, rucne neexistujici budovy/pole/... pocitam nikdo vyrabet nebude. -- Petr ___ Talk-cz mailing list Talk-cz@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-cz ___ Talk-cz mailing list Talk-cz@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-cz
Re: [Talk-cz] UP Re: poloha.net down
-- Petr Dne Po 27. října 2014 00:05:10, xkomc...@centrum.cz napsal(a): Jinak díky za práci, na fíčury se těšíme xkomczax ___ Talk-cz mailing list Talk-cz@openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-cz
