Re: [OSM-talk] Stack Overflow-like site for geographic information systems
Looks like that one has died, but there are OSM questions in the (active beta) GIS one: http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/openstreetmap Steve (I'm reviving this old thread rather than start a new one to post the url...) Somebody is already trying. http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/7486/openstreetmap I note that one question asked about that proposal is if it shouldn't be merged with the general GIS one. No matter what we end up doing, it probably wouldn't hurt for some of us to keep an eye on the GIS area if it get going, just so we can answer any questions related to OSM that come up. I do think we shouldn't take it over, but that doesn't mean we can't participate. Stephen ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Good point. I think you are right. End-to-end community control is good, I agree. So much for Stack Overflow then. But I'm glad that the idea of an OSM Q&A site is being discussed - I believe that there is a strong unexpressed demand for that. ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Especially with things like Shapado (http://shapado.com and http://gitorious.org/shapado) allowing you to set up our own site or be hosted on the main Shapado site (http://shapado.com/groups/new) I think that having a service which is more under our control is a good idea. Though this is perhaps more appropriate for OSM specific questions. Either way I think it would be a good idea to have a question/answer site for OSM questions -- as a complement to the osm-newbies list. -- Matt Williams http://milliams.com ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

[OSM-talk] Stack Overflow-like site for geographic information systems
Slightly off-topic, but the list's audience might be interested. You may have used questions and answers sites such as Stack Overflow (http://stackoverflow.com/) or its siblings - I like them a lot. There is a proposal for such a site dedicated to geographic information systems - and it would be a very nice place for Openstreetmap support. If you believe that this is a good idea, you may take a look at the proposal and maybe vote for it at http://j.mp/cqyYn0 ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk
